Excellent service for my friend and me. We had a Mimosa and a couple of coffees. A couple of flies flew around as we ordered. A waitress tried her best to swat at them.
My latke eggs Benedict was good but since the waitress didn't ask, I forgot to mention how I like them cooked. The crepes were average but the waitress offered chocolate syrup and strawberries if I wanted it.
The stuffed French toast was "like a 4.5 but not enough food for a meal." Â The potatoes was minor portioned but good. Pictures attached.
Almost. Â That is the one word that best describes this place. Â I have dined here several times, and each time I leave with the same impression: meh. Â Most recently:
Nice ambiance. Â We sat down outside, and it was a lovely evening with attentive, straightforward service, no frills. Â
The food is almost good.  We started off our dinner with a paté that is supposedly made with worcestershire, mustard, cloves, nutmeg, cayenne, grated onion, calvados and currants.  Perhaps that is the case, but all you could taste were liver and herbs (sage and tarragon?).  The herbaceousness of the paté was overpowering.  Accompanying said paté they serve diced, raw red onions (which only accentuate the green ugh-ness), pickles (which worked) and carrot sticks.  Carrot sticks?  This is not hummus people, carrot sticks and paté do not work well together.
For entrees, my wife had a scallops dish, which was pretty decent, albeit suffered from a lack of seasoning. Â I had their famous Chickon Pot Pie, which was alright, but again, needed salt. Â Were it not for the lack of salt, the crust would have been tasty, but instead lacked any 'pop'. Â The cranberry sauce served on the side, which in general is one of my favorite things to eat, was terribly acidic and made the bite of pie taste like bile. Â Yummy.
Not only is the food so-so, but the beverage list is mundane. Â I can usually find one or two things in each category I would like to order, but not a single wine or beer of interest was to be found. Â No microbrews, no unique grape varietals, and boring bubbly. Â So sad...
The one thing this place has going for them is their desserts. Â They are the only reason I will be going back to this place, as I have had them on several occasions and as a whole loved them. Â If Heather's only served dessert, they would be getting a solid 4 star review from me. Â Key Lime Pie, Carrot Cake, Eclairs, Cherry Pie, you name it, they make me want to eat it.
I want Heather's to be awesome, as it has a great location, great ambiance, and they know how to finish off a meal right. Â It's the whole food and booze issues that don't work well.
Just passing by Basalt at dinner time on the last evening of our 42nd anniversary trip to Colorado. We stopped in at Heather's because it had attractive outdoor seating and the friendly staff drew us in. The service was good and every bite was memorable. From the chilled gazpacho, to the perfectly dressed salad, to the lamb and egg plant shepherd's pie, we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed for the live jazz music and made some new friends. Lovely people all around--and the singer, Kathy and her pianist were excellent. Â I wish Heather's was just a few minutes from home instead of many hours. Heather's was a real treat.
Review Source:The food here is exceptional! Â I read a comment on Facebook from a Kiwi friend who wrote that she hadn't eaten a better lamb pot pie since leaving New Zealand - I went later that night and was blown away by the food. Â Service is, sadly, the only reason it's not a five-star review. Â Standard & poor Basalt service, but the food is so good I'll put up with it and still go back again and again.
Review Source:Heather's is an affordable, gourmet dining experience tucked away in the adorable town of Basalt. Much of the food on the menu has a flavorful southwestern flair.  Last night, for example, I ordered the pork tenderloin.  It came wrapped in a corn husk, was  rubbed with something that delivered the perfect amount of heat, and was accompanied with a truly delicious cherry salsa.  The gorgonzola polenta side dish was to die for, and is definitely worth a trip from Aspen just to try it.  My husband had Heather's savory chicken pot pie, her signature dish, and he loved every bite, especially the crust. Ambiance was funky and friendly.  Service was great. Wine was a cut above.  Highly reommended.
