My last review of this place was back in 08. Having been to Heath's a few more times since, the service is still great, but I'm having a change of heart on the food. The steaks are hit or miss. Sometimes they're good, other times they're just okay. I still like the salad bar. The house dressing is fantastic. Stuffed potatoes have become overcooked and dry.

Perhaps the biggest issue with this place is the appearance. It was fine for twenty plus years, but now it's looking very tired. They do a good job of hiding the obvious with super dim lighting. The outside of this place is horrible. Their trademark lighted marquee sign looks like it has been sitting in the back corner of a junkyard for thirty years. I don't even think a third of the lights work on it. The whole place is just worn out. It's sad because Heath's was the crown jewel of Dunn restaurants for as long as I can remember.

This was probably the worst meal we have ever eaten. My scallops were inedible and I sent them back. The chopped sirloin steak I ordered to replace it had no taste. My husband's roast beef came out cold and the second try was pretty bad. If you are in the mood for a baked potato--that is fine!!

    Oh Harnett County...

I'm an HC baby so I grew up with Heath's being the end all be all of steak houses.  However, now that I have "gotten around" the steakhouse scene, I know better.  We ventured there to celebrate my grandparent's 50th anniversary. (My g-ma had ALWAYS wanted to go to Heath's.)

First, the building is just bad...old, dingy, closed off and not appealing from the road or inside.

On to the food!  My steak was cooked well but lacked any flavor at all. I had to add salt, pepper and steak sauce.  I never use steak sauce!  They also brag about their amazing salad/bread bar.  To me this was one of the biggest disappointments.  The size of the bowl, the selection and the cost of the salad bar were all ridiculous.  There was steamed broccoli on the salad bar?!?  And the bread selection was actually just one type of bread you had to cut yourself at the bar.  They also don't serve real butter.  They had oil whipped spread sitting on the table.  The last part of my meal was a twice baked potato.  The flavor of my potato was good but it was topped with a Kraft American single!!! Are you kidding me?!?  That just put me over the edge.  I think my 6oz filet with salad bar and potato was around $26.  Which isn't bad if the service and extras had been there.  Don't make me get my own salad/bread.  Give me real butter and PLEASE grate your own cheese!

If you want a good steak you are better off going to a chain like Longhorn's.  If you want the experience and a good steak, go to Angus Barn.  You will pay more but you will get more too.  And the service doesn't even compare.
