Heading back to Washington State and we were getting hungry. We pulled out our cell phone and looked on Yelp for nearby places to eat....Heaven On Earth was the first places that popped up and it had great reviews and now we know why. Staff were friendly and the menu was huge and everything sounded great. They serve large portions of food so we had dinner in the car later that day. I posted some pictures to show what I'm talking about.
Review Source:This is an unusual place. Â Almost think there is some eccentric religious cult hidden or boarding on the property somewhere. Â The cinnamon rolls are big, piled high, stacked deep, expensive and not very good. Â The big ones are $12,95 each and are nowhere close to being as good as Pillsbury cinnamon rolls you bake at home. Â Really feel people who praise this place just don't get it. Â Tasted several samples also...not one was good. Â I know I could make a better cinnamon roll than this place...really lame!
Review Source:A must stop place when driving I-5 in Oregon. Â When you walk in the place you can't help but smell the aroma baked goods. Â Great breakfast stop and just good old fashioned food. Â Cinnamon rolls are to die for. Â I am getting hungry just thinking about it. Â Just stop there and eat and you won't be sorry
Review Source:Okay, for 20 years we've driven past this place and every time we comment that we should stop and try their cinnamon rolls since we've heard so many different people rave about them.
Today was that day. We were all so excited to finally pull off I-5 in the middle of nowhere and try out the famous gigantic cinnamon rolls and pies.
Ugh! Disappointed!
The cinnamon roll is nothing but a huge hunk of dry bread with a whiff of cinnamon and a blob of sticky icing all collected at the bottom of the container. So gross!! It really was the most awful tasting cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life and I thought you couldn't get any worse than Big Bear Diner cinnamon rolls. I was wrong.
The other thing we ordered was the Marionberry pie. The berry filling was quite delicious, but the crust was a chewy, pasty, flavorless glob of goo that I had to spit out.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, so that part was nice. But, the cinnamon roll was wretched and we threw it away; we also scraped the berry filling out from the doughy goo, ate that and tossed the "crust".
When you first walk in there are desserts spread out all over the tables; some wrapped, some just in open air. Kinda freaked me out that they were just sitting out in the open where people could walk by and touch them, talk next to them as spit comes out of their mouths, etc. But, the stuff we ordered was covered. There were also samples of a few things like cookies, pumpkin bread pudding, apple crisp, and the marionberry filling. The marionberry filling was good, so that's why I ended up with a small container of the pie. The sample was JUST filling, no crust. Oh well, live and learn.
This little jaunt off the freeway cost us $19.95 for one cinnamon roll and one small container of a piece of pie. We will not be stopping at this place again, but it's nice knowing we're not missing out.
Like a 40 foot dinosaur statue in the middle of the desert, this place is a landmark that must be experienced. Â I suspect the claim of "largest cinnamon roll" is accurate. Â We did breakfast hear while staying at 7 Feathers. Â Comfort breakfast food is definitely an accurate description. Â Had the ham and egg omelet with home fries and toast. Â I will say the Apple Butter is absolutely FABULOUS....some of the best I have ever had. Â Staff was friendly and welcoming. You must come and experience this place at least once if you are a regular I-5 traveler. Â Bring a cholesterol pill and insulin shot kit however.
Review Source:We mostly stopped for a cold drink, the bath room, and a chance to stretch and recover from the tension of the drive through 90 miles of wildfire smoke. Â What we found was a place with only 2 customers at 11:30 am, and a wide table-filled "store" at the entrance with both covered and uncovered cakes, pastries, cookies, jars of apple butter, cinnamon rolls and pies. Â
And icing. Â Lots of icing.
The server was very nice. Â Eager to help us find something good, and was kind enough to offer us cookie samples "for the road." Â We left with a drink each, a serving of pumpkin bread pudding in a plastic box, and a marionberry turnover made from an entire pie crust. Â Both were verrrry sweet, and the crust of the turnover was dense and chewy like a yeast dough rather than flaky pie crust, choux, or even filo. Â We didn't get any of the "big as your head" cinnamon rolls because they looked like way too much bread and icing for me. Â And I'm just not that wild for icing.
Whoever has the sugar concession here must be very happy.
I was really glad this place is there -- in the middle of a long, lonesome stretch of I-5. Â I was glad to be able to stand up and walk around for a minute after all that smoke-filled driving. Â But I doubt we'll be going back. Â Stores put what they think is there best stuff out front so anybody that comes in sees their "best foot forward;" Â and it's just not a product I'm looking for.
was not busy, yet they managed to turn a simple, surprisingly pricey order into rocket science. ordered breakfast. 12.95 for eggs, hamburger, potatoes & toast. did not receive meal as ordered. eggs were COLD..yum.. meal sent back.given stew that tasted canned. received argument from cashier stating meal cooked as written even though it wasn't what I ordered before she stormed off. nice, huh? Last I checked, lots of people STILL out of work. Don't like your job folks? QUIT! Know LOTS of people who would LOVE your job. Figure our server was from LA. - THIS PLACE SUCKS BIG TIME !!!!!
RUN, DON'T WALK TO A SANDWICH SHOP
I'm  a truckdriver, I've been stopping here occasionally for years. Tonight I walked out after waiting over 10 minute without being offered a menu or a glass of water.
This is the third time I can remember walking out in the past 2-3 years. Even when I do get service it's slow and indifferent. Maybe it's because I usually stop at night, it doesn't matter, I won't be going back.
I've really never felt that the food is as good a lot of people seem to think it is. Bland, under-seasoned and lacking any flair in either the preparation or presentation. For the prices charged I would hope for a bit better.
There are too many better options along this stretch of I-5, from Withams in Medford to 7 Feathers, to Sandy's Cafe in Roseburg. If I have a serious cinnamon roll jones the little deli next to Sandy's has delicious ones & they're open 24 hours.
Completely enjoyed the stop here today. Great food, great service and great hospitality. We were a very large group of 12 and everyone was extremely happy with his/her food. The pastry tasting on the way in and baked goods on the way out were all amazing. The meatloaf sandwich looked fantastic and I ordered the chicken pot pie. It was fantastic and i had plenty for dinner as well.
A must stop if you are in the area.
Delicious soup and snicker doodles! Heaven on Earth was a perfect little stop on our Oregon getaway. It's nothing fancy, but the food was great and the service was wonderful! We had the nicest waitress, she knew that I was interested in a soup and brought out a sample (which was more like half a cup). If you are looking for a good home cooked meal, Â stop in here and buy a cookie (or 6) to go!
Review Source:Saw reviews and decided to give it a try on our road trip. Â Cute little cabin looking place with more homemade goodness inside than expected, with little samples before you buy to ensure your happiness. We had breakfast (served all day), sandwiches, split pea, chowder, salads and had very happy tummies upon leaving! Everyone really enjoyed the meal, the service, and the hometown atmosphere:). We will be back by for a meal and the amazing treats on our next trip! Highly recommend:)
Review Source:This is a "must stop" for us anytime we head south on I-5 from Eugene and again on our way home - whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or coffee and dessert. They're open 6 am to 10 pm and learned recently they plan on being open 24 hours in the near future. It looks a little "funky" from the freeway, but take my word for it - more than worth the stop!
Start with a sample or two or three of their yummy desserts as you enter (and don't forget the sample cookies as you leave.) My husband's favorite is their meatloaf - any time of the day - but today he had chicken pot pie and enjoyed it so much he bought two more to bring home. Their soups are always good - today I had clam chowder (mmmmm!) Haven't yet ordered the liver and onions, but I understand it's one of their most popular entrees. Portions are generous and the service is tops! We recommend this to everyone traveling I-5!
The only similarity to heaven is the difficulty getting in. We, and countless others couldn't find the entrance after being told by a faded sign that the obvious double doors were not the entrance which was in fact, around the other side of the fairly large building.
Should be called "Another Restaurant on Eath" although the baked goods looked nice but we didn't try them. The number of things they were out of made the menu challenging right thru 'til the meal was served.
The uninterested staff was another matter. I mean, is it too hard to smile just once? And when your at it, could please bring the lemon I asked for before we leave? It may not get here before I finish writing this.
Oh, and the midi based old country music that's repeating the same six songs is making me dizzy.
An interesting stop off the highway in Oregon. Â Very small town & rural. Â A horror film could plausibly be set here.
I got a cinnamon bun. Â It was cold in a plastic container, seemed a bit stale.
Regardless of the food this place is still awesome just because of what it is and where it is.
This is a little off the beaten path, but right off I-5 if you are heading through southern Oregon. I was, so I stopped. Had seen this place a million times but after seeing an article from Sunset magazine about the cinnamon rolls had to check them out. Visited mid-day on a Friday, and was one of 3 people total aside from employees. The building is really large, with lots of doors you're not supposed to go through. Keep following the signs and eventually you'll end up at the entrance. Huge parking lot with lots of semi-trucks parked when I was there, which felt kinda weird.
Once inside, you are greeted by baked goods. And I mean seriously. They are everywhere. Huge cakes in every combination of flavors, pies, candy, muffins, and cinnamon rolls.... Oh the cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls come in bowl size or head size. By head size I mean the size of an adult head, not a child's head. They are pricey, as are all the other baked goods, but I appreciate homemade stuff so I bought a few things. Noticed plenty of seating, so maybe I'll stop in for a full meal sometime, though it's clear that the bakery side gets the majority of business here.
Picked up a slice of lemon cake ($8-$10) for my mom, a head-sized cinnamon roll ($12) for my brother in law, and a container of peanut brittle ($7) and toffee ($7). That's right, if you're counting, this stop cost me almost $40! My fam was super impressed though- each item was a huge hit. Portions are huge, so any one of these things could satisfy multiple people, and did :)
Definitely visit this spot, but plan to spend a lot of $.
My sister and I were driving back to the Seattle area and around 9pm, we decided we were starving. Â We happened to be between Grants Pass and Roseburg. Â Fellow Yelpers helped up choose to pull into this restaurant. Â Thanks, yelp peeps!
The place was closing in 45 minutes but they totally hooked up with tasty sammichs. Â I had a ham and cheese and my sis had the turkey club. Â Both were tasty but I will warn the anti-carb folk -- it comes with three slices of bread so you may want to ask for only two. Â I got a salad and she had the home fries. Â Perfect on both counts. Â The restaurant also sells baked goods. Â They had samples of the chocolate chip cookies, apple cobbler and some pumpkin thing that I did not try. Â The cookies were so good that I bought some to go. Â They had mega-sized cinnamon rolls and effing huge slices of various cakes. Â I regret now not getting the chocolate mint cake. Â
The service was great. Â There was a guy who was friendly and talkative without being too much of either. Â Our server was pleasant and helpful. Â The restaurant is quaint and cute. Â I would definitely stop in here again.
My opinion is this. The baked goods are ok and maybe worth the stop. If you need lunch get as far away from this place as possible.
The good:
1) Was hungry and happened to be on Quines Creek Rd.
2)They have cinnamon rolls the size of my head.
3) Free samples.
4) Fairly clean bathrooms.
The Bad:
1) I was the second on 2 customers in the restaurant for lunch and the waitress got my order wong.
2) When the waitress told the cook she got my order wrong he didnt believe her then came out to my table to read my tiicket for the order.
3) I would bet $50.00 that that was canned soup.
4) My salad was warm: It was 1 egg slice, 1 cherry tomato, 4 cucumber slices , and a pile of warm lettuce.
5) The corner of the windows have cobwebs with dead fly and bugs in them.
6) my 1/3 of a pound cheeseburger was eh.....
Heaven On Earth is a complex that includes a restaurant and truck parking. Â It's in a very peaceful and relaxing setting in the in the southwest Oregon hill country. Â just off I-5 between Grants Pass and Roseburg and it's very easy to get in and out of no matter what you're driving.
They are VERY TRUCKER FRIENDLY.
This is where I was introduced to soup in a bread bowl. Â Their soups are very tasty too, but having them served in a bread bowl was a very nice touch. Â The soup in the bread bowl was my favorite thing to have there. Â They have some very good desserts. Â This is also where I was introduced to marionberry jam and pies. Â The restaurant has a very down to earth, country type of atmosphere. Â
In the mood for cinnamon rolls? Â They have the biggest cinnamon rolls I've ever seen. Â They're made on site. Â Don't plan on eating one all at once. Â One cinnamon roll can very easily be shared between 3 people.
The restaurant is open daily but not 24/7.
Giant Cinnamon buns the size of a small child. Â It took me and my friend 2 days to finish it off and we are by no means small guys. Â You can get it with more frosting and melted butter on top, just in case that coronary isn't happening quickly enough.
If you get it to go they put it in a full size 3 layer cake container. Â And it barely fits. Â The size is not the only positive thing about it, it is actually one of the better cinnamon buns i have had, very tasty even the next day. Â We were camping and warmed slices of it over a hot plate. Â The breakfast of champions.
In eating this i know full well i have taken a year off of my life, but id do it again.
Bakery is AWESOME huge cinnamon rolls. And very generous portions in bakery. Prices a little on the steep side though. The restaurant is very over priced. $35. for a hamburger, a patty melt, and a child's portion of eggs and a biscuit. Good place to stop for the bakery, but I would pass the restaurant and eat else where.
Review Source:If you find yourself crusin' the I-5, craving some massive baked goods, and looking for a road-worthy stop, seek out the rustic comfort that is Heaven on Earth Restaurant.
The interior is a marriage of rustic country charm and Christian kitsch. The service is hospitable and not overtly judgmental of road-weary heathens. Food is classic comfort foods and American standards; the food is filling, but nothing too special. Prices are high, and not due to use of quality ingredients.
The bakery items are better than the food, in my opinion. There's apple and berry cobblers, pumpkin bread pudding, pies and cake by the slice, and samples of several items on any given day. Everything is available to-go.
What makes me stop at the HoE is their pineapple upside down cake and their world famous cinnamon rolls, which come in two sizes: regular, and family sized (read: as big as your head!). I'm not a huge fan of cinnamon rolls; they are a baked good I could take or leave on any given day. However, I have gotten some wonderful, fresh out of the oven, moist, cinnamon-y, sticky rolls here and with the addition of their fondant frosting (which comes in a separate container if the rolls are too warm to frost before packaging) is wonderful and not overly sweet for the whole experience. The pineapple upside-down cake is one of my boyfriend's favorite types of cake, and he says HoE does it justice.
All in all, a good place to stop, stretch your legs (there's not much of a view from the sparse parking lot), drop some dough and fill up on sweet, sticky baked goods and enter the carbohydrate coma. Make sure you have a designated driver!
4 stars for baked goods, 3 stars for food.
On trips from Portland to San Francisco, it's hard not to notice the large building on the side of the road with giant letters spelling out: Heaven On Earth. Â When confronted by a sign like that out in the sticks, you can't help but wonder if there isn't a group of religious nuts inside looking to put the fear of god into you. Â But just below that sign, in smaller letters, it reads: Home of the famous cinnamon roll. Â Then you think, "Well, it looks like a tourist trap, but maybe there's a really good cinnamon roll inside," and you pull over.
Upon opening the door, your eyes widen as you see the biggest cinnamon roll you've ever seen in your life! Â It's crazy huge! Â Like 8 inches wide by 5 inches tall! Â It's a cinnamon roll on stilts! Â An adventure of epic pastry proportion! Â You're about to embark on an expedition directly up the Great Cinnamon Pyramid of Giza! Â
If you can break the spell of the sultry cinnamon roll, you'll turn to find a table filled with about half a dozen varieties of dessert samples, which may include: bread pudding, berry cobbler, apple pie, and cookies. Â They're all spectacular.
After a couple visits there, we finally decided to try their dinner. Â Unfortunately, we realized that dessert is the star of the show at Heaven On Earth. Â The service was great. Â The food was filling, but merely average and just a hair overpriced in my opinion.
Heaven On Earth is worth visiting for the cinnamon rolls alone. Â Even if you don't want a towering cinnamon roll, don't worry, they have regular sized ones too. Â If you're looking for a good meal, it's not bad, but don't expect it to match the quality of their baked goods.
Good food, great service but terribly OVER PRICED !!!
As visiting restaurants and someone else cleaning up is what I'm all for, trying Heaven On Hearth and driving 35 miles south of Roseburg was on our To-Do list Monday, 5 September.
Nothing to complain about . . . well, I take that back. Little Miss Picky and I both ordered the French Dip and while it was a lot of meat, it was tough and chewy. The potatoes were really good and we both agreed about the potatoes. Mr. Picky ordered the endless stew, which he enjoyed very much and he even gave me a taste so I could verify his testimony. After two bowls of stew he wanted to try the chili with onions and cheese. He said he enjoyed the stew better.
We were really looking forward to coming here as HOE was recommended by a real estate agent. We just about jumped out of our clothing when we saw the prices for breakfast: the average price was $ 9.95+.
The oatmeal: 7.95. Â
Coffee: $ 2.50. OUCH ! COME ON ! $ 2.50 !! Â
Lunch prices for sandwiches started at $ 10.95+.
The small cinnamon buns are $ 5.95
The slices of cakes are $ 6.95.
This is really what we came for but by the time we arrived we needed more than dessert. After spending $ 44 on lunch for 3 people, we decided to go home and make a chocolate cake.
Mr. Picky, who is a business/mathematical genius, reasons on how much it cost restaurants to make items on the menu. He said their mark up is outrageous. Had the French Dip been priced the going rate, aprox: $7 - 8 and the cakes etc. $ 5, we might just try them again since we are local by 35 miles. But actually, since we still love to cook and bake, just think how much food we could come up with for what we spent on lunch and petrol !! Â Terribly disappointing as HOE would have made a nice place to return to, however, we will NOT be returning. So Folks, keep traveling another 35 miles north to Winston or Roseburg; The Brix, Dino's and Tom Toms are better and the prices are FAIR ! !
In front is a 2 story log cabin cafe. Back bldg is labeled "EXPRESS" where u can get a fast bbq rib lunch. We were told the ribs on the "buffet" were 2 days old and yes, they tasted that way. Fortunately he was finishing up a couple racks on the grill. Mr. B was lured by those so we stayed. Served with apple butter bbq sauce that was tasty, fresh fruit, potato salad, beans, and rice. Â Weird. Â The cherries tasted like essence of garlic powder and appeared to be in the fridge too long. Baked beans - fresh out of Bush's canned beans. Â Chicken flavored rice came straight out of a box. Potato salad straight out of a plastic container. Â Then there was the mouse poop on patio table. No wonder he is still selling ribs from 2 days ago. Â Not worth the stop. Not a "heavenly" meal except the ribs themselves.
BTW- the front building is a charming cafe and bakery. Â The baked goods look homemade and smelled divine. Â There were samples of bread pudding, berry cobbler, peach cobbler, and cookies. Â The berry stuff was the only stuff we cared for. We decided not to buy anything but some Marion berry jam, the reason we stopped in the first place.
I don't have much reason to stop again unless I want to steal a sniff of the cinnamon rolls.
This place is a rip-off.
Strike 1: $12-$14 for a tiny jar of apple butter / jam. Wow.
Strike 2: No fresh cinnamon rolls. If fresh ones were wanted, one had to wait an hour.
Strike 3: The special sandwich of the day wasn't available (turkey and cranberry). They were all out of cranberry sauce. I guess they didn't think to change the sign to reflect such.
Cinnamon rolls are just okay. Definitely not "world famous" quality. People that work here are not very helpful. Restaurant in general is in need of an overhaul.
Not worth it.
In my frequent trips up and down the I5 corridor, I have had ample opportunity to visit Heaven on Earth.  After much praise by one of my co-workers, I decided to visit the place.  During my visit, I was warmly greeted by what appeared to be one of the two people working there.  While the general atmosphere is warm and inviting, the place was vacant.  The décor could certainly use a freshening up along with some repairs to the seating.  As stated by other visitors, there was a table of beautiful looking deserts and other baked treats ready for sale.  My goal was to have a simple comfort food dinner followed up by one of the famous rolls.  not feeling very adventurous, I went with a cheese burger and fries for my entrée.  The food was fine by general burger standards with an ample portion of fries.  The food was hot and fresh.  The service was prompt and never wanting.
It was time for the much celebrated cinnamon roll. Â This is where things really went downhill for me. Â The rolls certainly look very appetizing, rich with cinnamon and icing. Â What I received was more like a stale loaf of bread with some cinnamon swirled in it in the shape of an overly large roll. Â The bread was tough and did not have much flavor besides a genera loaf of cheap white bread you buy in any grocery store, the surprising this is it was very stale. Â The cinnamon looked to be in good supply, but the taste did not match the appearance. Â Lots of what looked like cinnamon, but not much cinnamon flavor. Â I don't know if this was due to the overwhelming abundance of bread or if the spice was just past its prime. Â Again, I cannot stress enough just how stale the roll was, this along with having the additional toughness of being reheated either in a microwave or a warming oven, I cannot tell.
As I mentioned previously, I have driven many times past this establishment, and continue to do so. Â The parking lot is never full. Â Rarely does it have more than 4 or 5 cars present. Â On one occasion I did see a school bus in the lot. Â This makes me wonder about the volume of baked goods that I saw for display upon my arrival to the lobby. Â If, as a dine in customer, I received a roll that did not have the taste of a day old, but days old. Â Just how old is the product on display for sale?
One thing that did bother me is the overt display of Christian propaganda. Â I don't know if it occurs to the operators that not everyone might share their faith. Â Nor would they generally like to have a meal where someone else's faith is so prominently displayed. Â I know it's their business, and they have every right to share their faith and other world views as they like, it's just that some people want to go to a restaurant to eat, not to feel like they are being proselytized. Â A small tasteful symbol of their faith is fine. Â Tables full of literature, tracts and other imagery are very off-putting to someone who may not share that particular faith. Â Again, they have every right to display their faith as they like, just as I have every right to spend my dollars where I like.
In closing, the entree was fine and fair for the price but I will not be returning.
We came here for a pregame meal...imagine serving a bunch of rowdy, hungry, 17 and 18 year old guys right before their playoff game - add the fact we had been in the bus for 6 hours and hadn't eaten.
That said, they gave us free stuff from their bakery - totally free - coach was shocked...it's amazing.
Now I travel from Portland to LA and this is a stop for me no matter what...glad i found it again.
So far so good applebutter everywhere
So I dragged my friend here after searching on Yelp for something to do in Azalea and this is the only thing there.
...one word....
FOODGASM
This is probably the best food I have ever had as far as I can remember. I grew up on home made food in Czech Republic, both my girlfriend and I are great cooks ... Â I cried during my second meal at Heaven on Earth, the food was so good. Even the corn was CUT FRESH off of a cob.
Maybe I was starved for good food after our 5 day trip from Alaska, but even the hospitality in this place is superb; 3 kinds of fresh free cookies on the way in, home made jams and apple butter on the table. Pray for  a fluffy biscuit fresh out of the oven, that with some apple butter will get you over the top.
Then come the cakes and pies, not to mention the free pie filling with whipped cream.
HEAVEN ON EARTH!!
I've seen Jesus, he is a regular here!
My soup of the day was chicken that still layed the egg that morning; the egg was hardboiled on my friend's salad.
They are a truck stop, truckers get 25% off (sorry, only 18 wheelers count, we tried).
Lastly, don't worry about overeating; they have a sofa and a recliner ready for you to take a nap in.
I love this place!
I thought this place had quite a bit of charm. As you walk in, there's a long table full of cakes, chocolate dipped strawberries, macaroons and desserts like bread pudding and apple crisp. The thing that stands out the most are the HUGE cinnamon rolls. "I'm talking like Sputnik. Spherical, but quite pointy in parts." There's also samples of some of the desserts as you walk in. I thought it was a nice touch.
Anyway, the place was empty at 7ish on a Saturday. There was one table leaving as we arrived. I was surprised given there's nowhere else close by. The menu is full of home style meals and you can get breakfast, lunch or dinner at any time.
We ordered our dinners which included soup or salad, a vegetable, fresh made rolls, mashed potatoes & another dessert sample for close to $15. I got the chicken fried steak while my dining companions ordered the roast beef. We opted for chili (with a little cheese on top) and it was quite tasty. Our dinners were fairly good and huge in size. Two people could easily share these. The roast beef was tender and flavorful with a nice brown gravy on top. My chicken fried steak was hearty and the country gravy didn't need any additional flavoring. What was really nice was the optional sauteed onions and mushrooms on top of the CFS. Delish! The veggie was canned corn (boring!) but the mashed potatoes were buttery and slightly lumpy...just like at home. The real treat with dinner was the homemade dinner rolls that are a meal in itself. They give you apple butter, marionberry (not named after the controversial mayor) jam and peanut butter at the table to put on them. I was in love with all of the options! They even gave me a jar of marionberry jam to take with me!
The dessert sample was some of the super yummy apple crisp topped with some whipped cream. I pretty much rolled out of this place with a full belly and newly developed cankles. I thought I might take one of the cinnamon heads home with me, but I was far too full.
It isn't the best or worst food but it tastes home cooked and the place has a really warm atmosphere. It caters to truckers and if I were one, I'd make this a regular stop.
Remember all those inspiring Christian favorites that helped to honor our Lord and God? You recall how you sang them in church choir, listened to them as you read from the Bible during Advent, and all throughout your maker-fearing childhood?
Just me? OK, moving along then.
The first clue should have been the fact that the restaurant is called Heaven on Earth. The second tip-off should have been the fact that the restaurant is not a titty bar. Instead of flesh and pole dances, Heaven on Earth sells baked goods, candles, homemade jams, various to-go food items in their deli (which is closed on Sundays), and of course, CDs of the aforementioned Christian hymns. Did you ever wonder if your life would be enhanced with a slowed down rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In" done entirely by ukeleles? I heard such a thing during my meal at Heaven on Earth, and I can honestly say that this version will make you never hear the song the same way ever again.
With crosses on the menus, random statues of angels doing angelic things by fountains, and the warning that Jesus Loves You on the front door, you might surmise that the food will have holy, miraculous properties. God is love and eating is love, which means God = eating, right? Well, maybe if you're starving and don't plan on making any other stops as you trek along the 5. Otherwise, the food probably isn't going to open your eyes to all the love and salvation waiting on the wings of doves and eagles. But it will feed you but good. The portions are hearty, maybe because the cooks know that you'll end up stuffing yourself with beef jerky during your long car ride if they don't get to you first. The baked selections, including free samples of marionberry cobbler and apple crisp, looked great and wholesome after consuming beer and cigarettes non-stop for two days. The server presented everyone at my table with cups of bread pudding with whipped cream after our main courses were taken away. Their God is an awesome God. The stories are true.
But He (or She - I have no idea) did not live in the entrees. I didn't expect a diner off the freeway to experiment too much with grilled potatoes and cheese, and for almost eight dollars, I got exactly what I anticipated. Unfortunately, so did the dining companions who ordered turkey club sandwiches, chili, and clam chowder. One point in Heaven on Earth's favor - none of us had to worship any white porcelain bowls after eating the food. And nobody sang "Onward Christian Soldiers" as we exited. You know they would have gotten another star if they had.
Maybe it's not the most spectacular dining experience you've ever had, and maybe the cinnamon rolls the size of your head seem a wee bit excessive, but three words describe the reason I love Heaven on Earth: Location, Location, Location! And round-the-clock hours!
Tucked into a pocket of one of the more mountainous stretches of I-5, this restaurant was a lifesaver when my poor little truck chugged his last chug on the freeway in the middle of the night. This was in the days before cell phones were everywhere, and even today there's no guarantee you'd get coverage in these hills. Luckily, a friendly semi driver was kind enough to take me the few miles to Heaven On Earth.
Once we arrived, they let me use the phone to call AAA, offered me coffee, and provided a warm place to wait for the tow truck. At 2 in the morning, that's more than you can hope for.
I continue to drive by about once a month, and although it's been nine years since I've stopped in, seeing them there still comforts me every time.
On a train ride from LA to Seattle, I held a conversation with a young lady that spoke highly of this establishment and their massive cinnamon rolls. Â So, while on a rode trip from down the Pacific, I looked it up online and made a point to stop by.
The menu is simple. The prices are steep. Â However, since they're on the main drag and you have little option, they gouge as much as they can or what they justify as keep themselves afloat.
Nonetheless, their cinnamon rolls are huge. Â So, be sure to save room or bring five other friends to share it with you.

This is a tough one, we went twice in two weeks, once on the way down to California and once on the way back home. Two completely different experiences.
On the way down we stopped for a late breakfast and the food was quite good. The kicker was the cinnamon roll. Hot, big, fluffy, gooey, and that's without the melting slab of butter they put on top. My egg dish and all the others were pretty good too. Nothing spectacular but solid.
We also enjoyed the bakery. It's half of the restaurant. Fresh cookies, cakes, desserts, etc... Their samples were regular size cookies which is kinda cool, and yummy.
On our way out I ordered a dozen cookies to go, 3 of each of the 4 types. I didn't really pay attention but when we got in the car, we realized that they gave us probably 4 dozen cookies at the 1 dozen price. Most of the people in the place were very warm and welcoming.
On the way home we stopped by again in the late afternoon for a cinnamon bun snack but it was pretty terrible. Nothing like the one we had before. Service was still great and they also doubled our to-go cookie order again.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give 4 stars. Best bet may be to go during morning hours. This is also not a cheap place. Most things start right at about $10. Fountain drinks I think are $3. Don't remember what the cookies cost but heck, they were well worth it.
