The Hutte Restaurant is a traditional Swiss restaurant. This quaint 18th century yellow wooden house is located in the middle of the woods. The front porch has wooden chairs and an iron wrought table for the guests waiting to get inside. Each dining room has its own theme.  We ate in the library.  Within the library was an antique switchboard and organ. The book cases lined the walls with books dated back to 1840.

Open at noon on Sunday.  They offer a buffet style Sunday brunch called Bernerplatte.  The buffet tables are located immediately inside the front door.  The appetizer buffet selections include; homemade Swiss cheese, bread and apple butter (all made on the premises), pickled beets, bread and butter pickles and a mixed salad with huge tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, green onions and the West Virginia Appalachian sweet vinegar hot bacon dressing.

The entrée buffet tables were set up in an L-shape also inside the front door.  The buffet included; a unique onion quiche topped w nutmeg (my favorite dish), homemade sausage, sauerbraten, meatballs, delicious horseradish honey mustard sauce, curry style chicken topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions, country green beans with generous slices of ham, sweet pickled sauerkraut and fresh buttery carrots perfectly cooked. The meal ended with homemade peach cobbler topped with whip cream and cinnamon.

This is NOT your typical brunch, but a Swiss Sunday dinner at your grandma's house. If you are in the area, you must experience this restaurant.

I have been to Switzerland and Austria numerous times and this restaurant by far and away has the best and most authentic Alp cuisine I've ever had this side of the Atlantic.

My girlfriend and I attended the Helvetia Music Festival which is full of absolutely hospitable people. We came from Canada which shocked them and they all took us under their wing.

We went on Sunday which meant they had an all you can eat brunch starting at 11am and was full of absolutely delicious food like roasted chicken, tasty cooked veggies, homemade meatballs, sweet carrots, warm applesauce which was amazing, along with about another 12 items that were just simply outstanding.

They served beers in steins - that's proper - and the decor of the restaurant and the village for that matter is like chalets in Germany and Switzerland. Truly remarkable. The service was top class, and when we go through West Virginia for our rafting trips again, will absolutely make sure to stop in again.

The best restaurant we visited during our run in Pennsylvania, North Carolina or West Virginia. Yeah, that good.

What an experience! I was only there once so I can't review the menu as a whole, but the meal I had with my family was delicious. The place is fascinating, with old wood-burning stoves and vintage decor everywhere. We had a private dining room with an old telephone switchboard! This place really has the feel of an old world inn; you'll think you took a wrong turn and ended up in Europe.

The village itself is lovely, so take a walk up to the general store and the jaw-droppingly beautiful town square. One warning: be sure to have directions written down before you go; you're in a remote area of West Virginia and there's no reception for cell phones or GPS devices.

This is a trip; it's miles from the nearest highway over curving mountain roads. But my goodness, it's worth every penny. I want to go back and see the town in autumn and winter, it's so picturesque.
