We didn't have any of the food, but, the rest is what we found:
Beer: warm- Â it is so cheap to freeze your glassware and makes the beer so much better! Also, turn down your cold box!
Jäger bombs - warm....really? AND $8.50?????
Toilet - plugged and nasty
We did well on the pull tab thing, so, we basically drank for free.
Another very cool place that has lots of potential.....if it were run right!
we visited friday harbor during the first week of the off season. Â herbs was the best place to pump dollars into the jukebox, get a little drunk and play some free pool, in a very quiet, sleepy town. Â the fish and chips were very good, so were the clam strips; don't get the bounty of the sea though, you'd be better off getting individual orders of each. Â the poor waitress/bartender was on her own but she made up for slow service with a friendly demeanor.
Review Source:The physical space is good; nice tavern atmosphere. Â However, the bartender was terrible (Devon). Â He clearly wasn't interested in being at work or anyone in the bar. Â We were three of only six people in the bar and he couldn't have been less attentive. Â In the few moments he actually acknowledged our presence, he was unfriendly and unpleasant. Â He should consider a career to something that doesn't require any social interaction.
Review Source:Jealous I don't have a local tavern like this where I'm from. Big space filled with tables and pool tables (2) but incredibly not cramped!
Great decour (covered with a lot of interesting neon and beer ads as well as some great local art with a salmon theme).
Surprisingly awesome beer selection. Mostly local micro brews. Got to try a couple new beers which I had been wanting to try.
The food looked good, we ordered fries just to keep busy. They were skinny and sorta crappy but there were a TON of them.
also, if you are killing time for the ferry BRING YOUR OWN CLOCK. we left our phones in the car and the bar clock is on bar time. We thought we had 20 min left to catch our ferry but when we got to the car found out we'd had an hour left!
Oh well.
Fun place, GREAT beer selection. Perfect place to wait for the ferry or enjoy a night.
Came up to Anacortes to drag my buddy josh out of his man cave. We all jumped on the ferry and made a day of it. Â We met are really nice aussie girl (Kim) traveling and invited her to join us. When landing in friday harbor we needed a bar to get a pint.
Obviously you want to avoid the tourist traps of Front street as they are more expensive. So I dragged the brew crew up a block and this caught my fancy. I saw oldest bar on the island 1941 looked inside and it was filled with locals. Avery good sign to get in the from the cold. We came in planted our butts on stools and was informed it was happy hour on the menu all the appetizers were 1/2 off. Â I proceeded to praise the finer micro breweries we have in the northwest. With a pitcher of our famous Mac and Jacks. And the guys did their manly Scotch on the rocks. Â Kim totally enjoyed the crispness of the taste and mentioned that she would like to try as many as she could put down. Â An aussie girl at heart and stomach. I ordered chicken tenders with fries and chicken wings(8). As the tenders arrived the guys were like a pack of wolves. The fries and chicken were gone in no time. The chicken wings arived next and I made the spicy. So the pirate could not touch them. Beer and liquor flowed conversations were being had all around. Â
We needed Kim to get to her hostel so we hailed a cab for her and off she went to drop her bags and come back. Â They played pool and had a wonderful time.
A great small town bar to get away from the dreary northwest weather.
Great bar, fantastic drinks, fabulous bartender! Â I was visiting from out of town with a friend and ended up at this bar. Â We played some cheap darts and pool, played the juke box and drank like fish! Â The bartender was so friendly and could really pour a nice, stiff drink! Â I'm sure the staff don't get too excited about the tourists they get coming in but she didn't seem to mind us at all. Â It seemed like there were mostly locals and everyone was friendly and a lot of fun to be around. Â I had a great time here and would definitely go back!
Review Source:Ok, so we thought we would grab a beer and shoot some pool. Sounds like fun, right?
We walk in only to find what appeared to be dirty laundry on the pool table. Weird! The bartender noticed us standing next to the table, wondering if someone would be coming back for their laundry, hoping to play a game....but he did nothing! Weird!
Fine - whatever. We sit at the bar and the other bartender asks us what we would like. We each order a beer and then sit back to take a look around. Crappy beer signs and mirrors, women's bras hanging from bikes on ceilings, tables along the back filled with empties and glasses. Classy joint is not what we expected, so not the biggest deal so far.
Until.......holy smokes, what is that smell? Ok, its going away. 5 minutes later...oh my gosh! There it is again! Seriously nasty! We realize it is coming from the mens room - every time someone opened the door the stench of raw sewage came floating out. So disgusting. Seriously nasty.
And if those chics played one more Nickleback song off the jukebox.....
This place would easily earn 5 stars if it didn't have live music on both Friday and Saturday nights. Â My boyfriend and I originally wanted to stop in here to grab a drink and play darts, but on Friday the dartboard was blocked by a live band. Â We were bummed, but we came back Saturday to grab dinner before the live music started. Â Dartboard was blocked then too, but this time we were coming just for the food - and boy, was I glad!
The Cow Dipper burger was SO GOOD - one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Â It comes with grilled mushrooms and onions, swiss cheese, and au jus. Â I got a salad instead of fries and my perfect meal was complete. Â I happily ate my burger and was actually sad when I was finished eating - that's how tasty it was!
Our waitress was nice and attentive, the drinks were good, the other patrons were friendly, and I just dug the place. Â Super divey, but just plain awesome. Â I would definitely come back here.
The fries. Â I love me some good French fried potatoes! Â They are very good here and anytime a customer orders them, the smell permeates the entire establishment. Â
There is an abundance of local patrons, however, there is always an influx of ferry-riders, visitors, and tourists. Â The service was all right. Â The bartenders aren't really there for you to have conversations with, it seemed like they stuck to their regulars. Â I guess it's the "have to get to know you" kind of place. Â Which is cool. Â Especially when you're the customer they know.
They have all sorts of games and things to keep you occupied. Â Their menu is quite large and take your time when scoping it out. Â
The few times I have been to Herb's have been decent. Â There hasn't been anything absolutely amazing, and nothing absolutely horrid! Â So, give this place a shot for yourselves.
Not bad pub grub but waitress/bartender seemed to be missing her calling as a prison guard in the personality/warmth department. Â To her credit she was taking care of the whole bar but she isn't creating repeat customers, I wouldn't say.
I was generally really happy with the service on the island, but Herb's really didn't cut it.
Reasonable semi-dive near the ferry. Â They have pool, pinball (WoF), and a few video games and TVs to entertain you. Â 18 or so beers on tap. Â Barstools with names on them make you think (rightly) that it is a locals joint.
They have a deeper menu than you'd think for a bar, which is nice.
