The Hitchin Post was way better than I was anticipating for a locally owned Knob Noster restaurant. The service was quick, the staff was friendly, prices were average, and my food order came out correctly. The beer battered onion rings are the best I've ever eaten! Check this place out and keep them in business! You will not be disappointed.

This is a rural-Missouri 4 stars, not a big city 4 stars, but it's still really far better than I expected.

We got there on a Friday evening... there was one other table of people there. The place was like a ghost town. There's plenty of seating available and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

We were promptly greeted and we had a quick look over the menu. The offerings sounded good, but I was afraid. I finally ordered chicken fried steak meal and mom got catfish.

We waited quite a long time for our meals, but were frequently checked up on. We didn't mind waiting as we weren't in a hurry and just visiting anyway. The place could use some more beautification and maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a little music playing for atmosphere (& privacy of your own conversation). The ceiling tiles are old and stained and some of the walls are kind of that old ugly paneling, but it's still clean and comfortable. I'm not a fan of restaurants that leave a stack of extra napkins on the table (not in a napkin holder) this just doesn't seem very sanitary, but it was just a few extras.

Finally our food came out and it was really delicious. I figured it would be TV dinner quality, but it was outstanding. The breading on the catfish was pretty salty, but still very good. Maybe the cook is a little heavy-handed with salt, but it was just still great food, especially for Knob Noster. The mixed vegetables did not thrill me when she sat down the plate, and even they were good. We got free ice cream after our meal. Another table was offered cobbler (not free) and I maybe would have been interested in that.

For a really new restaurant, I'd have to say give it a try.
