  I rarely write reviews on here but I'm writing one tonight with hopes that they see it and make some improvements. I own a vacation home on Hubbard Lake so I've eaten there a few times over the years. Up until tonight, I've usually ordered pizza. The pizza has a strange taste to it (the sauce) but it's not the worst I've had. Tonight we ordered BBQ rib Dinner, Pork Chop Dinner and Chicken Tenders basket. I specifically asked how the chops were cooked and was told "broiled". They came deep fried! Yuck! Dry with NO flavor. The ribs were old, dry and over cooked. The fries were all blah. The entire dinner was TERRIBLE! What a shame. Being the "nicest" place in town, they should take more pride in the menu and food. Eventually the area will get busier and there will be more choices. Then this place will go under. Obviously they have kitchen staff that can't actually cook. Really disappointing.

  It was raining all weekend in HL today so what else was there to do but go to the bar on a Saturday afternoon!  Stopped in mid-afternoon for a couple drinks and some snacks.  Had the crab & jalapeno poppers (yummy), sweet potatoe fries and coconut shrimp.  All were good but they need to work on the dipping sauces they serve with them.  Plain sour cream with the poppers and cocktail sauce with coconut shrimp - bad sauces but good appetizers in general.  I'd go back....the sandwiches all sounded good and I wish I was more hungry for a real meal there.

  I miss the old place, I had many experiences there, as well as my Father, and my Grandfather.  As much as I don't like the way they rebuilt this place, I do like thier food and service.  I am surprised how good thier food is and it is inexpensive.  I can't change what happened, but I recommend this place for the fine job they do in thier kitchen.

  This tavern was rebuilt in 2006 after the old tavern burnt down.  I might not be so disappointed in this place if I hadn't visited the old one.  
  
  The old tavern was a historic, dark place with old wood floors, stone walls, and a creeky screen door that would slam everytime someone walked in.  It was wide open and sorta dirty....exactly as an 'up north' bar should be.
  
  This rebuild is completely the opposite.  It's all brand new with an interior that looks like it would be someone's cheesy basement remodel.  The walls are that "fake plastic' looking light colored wood and the chairs and tables are the same.  It's like they purchased everything at Big Lots.  The food is blah and the service is ho-hum.
  
  While I'm not a fan, we visit almost everytime because it's one of the only places still open around the lake.  Until something better comes along we'll continue to suffer this 2 star cheesy-experience in order to get drinks and wings when we need 'em.
