We visit here whenever we go to Shenandoah's Crossing as the food is really well done. Â So delicious and definitely comfort food. The ice tea is always fresh and the service has always been great.
Their hamburgers are especially delicious with a great grilled bun, lettuce, tomato and mayo, but be warned the only cook medium or better. Â I am a medium rare kind of a girl but found the medium to be juicy and tasty. Definitely not a frozen type patty found elsewhere. Â Also they serve A LOT of fries - the burgers, sandwiches and bbq are sufficient so don't spend the extra on more then one order of fries if you are a party of two or three - you won't finish them. Â They literally fill the large oval shaped plates.
My husband really enjoys their bbq and my daughter is a fan of their gorgeous BLTs - a sight to behold. The coleslaw is pedestrian but it gets the job done [not made in house I suspect as other things are]. Â The salad bar isn't that impressive for the cost, but they do a nice job of keeping it fresh even between lunch and dinner.
I only give it three stars for two reasons - the prices are a bit much for what they serve out in the boondocks. Â We had 3 iced teas, 3 sandwiches with fries and it came to $35. Â Maybe I am cheap and the food IS good, but that is just a bit extreme for a hamburger [no cheese, no bacon] pulled pork bbq and a blt with fries and 3 teas. Plus tip. Â Those are lunch prices too. Â We won't go back for dinner because it would be a $70 tab to eat in a diner.
Which brings me to my second reason for the 3 stars. Â This place is run down. Dusty, thread bare, sticky in some places - think duct tape on the booths and dusty napkin dispensers with holes in the carpet.... if the food wasn't so good, fresh and the service wonderful I doubt we would go back for the cost and the atmosphere.
That staff is incredibly friendly and a nice change from some customer service we get these days, so if you can overlook that little bit I mentioned then you will enjoy a realllllllly good meal. Â And try dessert - it is made in house.
We stopped here for lunch while visiting in Gordonsville. It is indeed a typical family restaurant with 4 senior ladies taking care of everyone.
The tuna sandwich and chicken salad sandwich were both tasty with a generous serving of potato chips. The soup and salad feature was  the usual fare with nothing exotic. The onion rings were done to perfection. All just good coumtry food. I thought the prices were a tad on the high side though.
I wouldn't lay awake at night dreaming about the next time i could visit but if I were in Gordonsville again, I'd sure stop by. And this time I would order one of their homemade desserts.
This is a typical family restaurant with local flavor. Very "country" and not the neatest place after a rush. There's a small salad and soup bar and the food is decent. They make their own desserts which are typical country fare like coconut cream pie. My 85 year old mom always takes a piece of coconut cream pie home, puts it in the fridge and forgets it. Yummy for me! Â If you are traveling on RT 15, it is a good stopping point.
