JBP has outlined the history, so I'll just add this has been my local tavern since I started the process of becoming a Fancy Lad. Though the legendary Monday Night Club may have fallen, The Circle still stands. If you're ever in Wapella, or get a taste for a cold one when passing by on legendary Highway 51 (which runs about 10 feet in front of the bar right outside) swing in and knock back a few. Food is on par with top trad bar food in the area (the specials being a highlight) and if you're lucky, you can talk Illinois basketball with R.L. Mills. Highest recommendation.
Review Source:In a former service station, Orville Bruning started this tavern, sometime before prohibition ended. Â After installing the old circular bar from the Alhambra in Bloomington, Illinois, and drawing on the patronage of the local Irish population, the Irish Circle was aptly named. Â Concrete floors, gaming machines, and big screen satellite t.v. make this a popular spot for sporting events in Central Illinois. Â The ice cold beer is served in attactive cans, identifying the contents with labels printed on the aluminum casing. Â Â This bar is run by the Mills Family. Â The food is suprisingly good. Â The opening and closing times are not very clear, but it is generally open.
