Straight up, down-home diner.
The waitstaff? Â Super friendly. Â The ambiance...it feels so rural southern that you almost don't believe its real. Â We came in after a long drive from Nashville to see the Jack Daniels brewery tour and were hankering for some pulled pork. Â Fortunately, they had it on the menu.
Meals were pretty standard--pulled pork and fries with a soda. Â If you're looking for exotic spices and fancy garnishes, keep walking. Â But if you want to have a diner in a quiet down experience, this is your stop. Â And come early...the entire town shuts down at about 5pm.
We ate here before heading to tour the Jack Daniel's Distillery.
Ratings:
Service (4) - The young lady that served was very sweet and friendly. Â Kept checking us to make sure everything was alright.
Food (3) - I ordered the club sandwich with fries. I love the fries, the sandwich is was okay.
Atmosphere (3) - I never been to any place in the US besides LA & Las Vegas. So, this place and restaurant was exactly how I imaged a little restaurant would be like.
Ease of paying bill (4) - You go up to the counter and you would have to wait a few mins till a server comes and help you
Overall (3) - It was ok-food with decent prices. I did taste the Jack Daniels burger, but i wasn't impressed by it.
In the end, I would not mind coming back here again and try something new. I would recommend people to come and try this restaurant out.
I know there's not a lot going on in Lynchburg, and this is one of the few restaurants to choose from after going to the Jack Daniel's distillery, but it really was not very good. What I had, the meat and 3, was that day chicken pot pie that looked like a gooey messy chicken pasta, green beans from a can, corn from a can, and boxed mashed potatoes, and a pucky cornbread slice that could've been passed on half a dozen plates before it hit mine. Just like how the lunch lady used to make. Nostalgic for sure, but delicious not so much.
On the day that we went, it seemed like the entire Moore County high school had stopped in for lunch, and also half the town. It made for a lively atmosphere and a local experience, but friendliness factor was still pretty low to us out of towners.
First, let me say that this hole in the wall is a big YES! Now here's my story:
This place is DRAB. I mean theres water stains on the ceiling and I doubt they have ever remodeled.
I.was.nervous.
I ordered the Jack Daniels burger. I asked for it med- rare. The young server looked at me like a deer in head lights.. "uuuuh uuumm.. we just cook it".
My burger was delivered. OH MY GOSH! it was SO TASTY that I wanted 2 or 3 more! Lucky for me, it was enormous!!
Delicious and interesting experiences brought to you by Lynchburg, TN
The Lynchburg Welcome Center recommended their burgers and country fries. Â The place was filled with locals, and the waitresses knew them all by name. Â Even the sheriff came in to pickup a phone order.
The menu had breakfast plates, catfish, burgers, and sandwiches. Â Upon the waitress' recommendation, I got the Harley Burger - a 1/4 lb'er with slightly spicy Jack Daniels BBQ sauce - which was pretty good. Â With a side of mustard and ranch, the tater babies - mini potato wedge fries with cayenne pepper - were delicious and well worth trying. Â Burger and sides are ordered separately. Â Seat yourself and pay at the register.
Similar to David O, we stopped in before the JD tour. The town is a weird mix of locals, tourists, and foreigners. We were sitting next to good ol' boys talking about the recent power outage and looking out the window at Asian and European tourists walking in circles and taking pictures.
The Iron Kettle itself was actually pretty good. We had the burgers and I got pinto beans and corn bread w/ lots of Jack Daniel's hot sauce. YUM! The service was ok, the hubby never got that mustard he wanted. It was very quiet in there as well - no music playing and there weren't many customers, so that was strange too.
It was a baffling experience.
Stopped in after taking the Jack Daniels Distillery tour. Â This unassuming diner had one of the most delicious hamburgers, in the form of the "Lynchburg Harley Burger", I've had in quite some time.
The big drawback here is the cash only policy. I had to hike to a nearby ATM leaving my girlfriend as collateral.
I'm honestly glad I wasn't aware of the "Cash Only" policy prior to coming in simply because I would have avoided it and as a result missed this delicious burger.
