Normally a good local place for fun and drinks. We took some guest out for an anticipated "seafood dinner". Â For 24.95, the grouper portions were minuscule, a spoonful of rice and 5 pieces of asparagus.
An embarrassing choice after an almost $200. bill. We were hungrier when we left, Â Â its a good place for drinks, but there are better places for dinner, especially where you don't feel ripped off.
My wife and I were in Marco Island for our honeymoon. Not really sure what was around, we were looking for something different for breakfast one morning. We found this place listed as a restaurant on the Isle of Capri, so we thought we'd check it out.
When we first arrived, we weren't really sure where to go. The building at the address was a closed real estate office. Then we noticed a hut way back on the water. We decided to go check it out.
Sure enough, that's the restaurant. It's an outdoor bar with a vaulted roof and no walls. We were there at 9am and there was a toothless guy drinking beer at the bar. A girl turned reggae music on and then took our order. She was gone for a really long time and then came back with our breakfast.
We really didn't know what to think of the place until she brought our food out. Much to my surprise, the food was delicious. I mean, you can't really screw up breakfast food, but each item had a nice little something with it that made it the best breakfast we had all week.
Overall, we enjoyed it and were glad we found it. Kind of an odd experience though :)
Coconut Shrimp. Must ...have...Coconut...Shrimp... This place is just perfect to relax. We stopped in at the recommendation of an employee of the Spa at the Marco Island Marriott Resort. We went back 3 days in a row during our stay- each time getting a beer and the Coconut Shrimp. Best we ever had- and we've traveled the globe. Look at renting a boat from the Marina and cruising around also- totally worth it. Stop in- you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Walked in and found a nice little table near the live music, good start. Looked around and saw plates of food that all look delicious, another positive sign. 5 minutes pass, no waiter. Ten minutes pass, no waiter, hum. Yes, they were busy but still had several empty tables, understaffed perhaps? Finally, a waiter ready for our drink order. I ordered a Corona Light with lime. Cousin asked what beers were on tap. The tap is broken tonight, only bottles or cans. Okay, what beers do you serve? Waiter flew through the list at lightning speed. Seemed he did not want to be bothered. She ordered her beer and we asked for waters as well.
After 15 minutes our beers arrive but no water. We were ready to order but waiter literally blew past us as he placed the drinks on the table. 10 more minutes pass and he resurfaces to take the order. Meanwhile a couple seated next to us, after we were seated, are now enjoying their soup...Still no water for us. A food server attempts to place two meals in front of us but we realize this is too quick and tell him those aren't our meals. They belong to our soup swilling neighbors. Lucky them. The waiter has now vanished for the evening.
The food eventually arrives and the saving grace is that both meals were delicious. Owner stopped by to see how our meals were. Told him food was good, service was sub par to which he replied, that was inexcusable. You are right Mr. Owner, that was inexcusable. Won't be back as there are too many good options within just a few miles.
What a horrible experience. Â We ended up walking out.
We walked up and there was no hostess or employees to tell you whether you can just sit down or where you should etc. Â We ended up just picking a table and sitting down. Â A guy quickly gave us menus but then disappeared. Â Another couple came in and sat at the table next to us. Â A different guy came over and took their drink order. Â He came back and brought their drinks, then came back again and took their order. Â In all that time no one came to our table - no water, no drink order, nothing.
Also during that time a herd of smokers gathered a few feet from our table and lit up. Â Since the tables were downwind we ended up surrounded by smoke. Â Thats when we just got up and walked out. Â Still not a word from any of the employees on our way out.
They also have "live entertainment" in the way of a woman singing Crystal Gale songs ... not really sure what demographic she's aiming at, but it isn't me.
We noticed on our way out that the kitchen is located on the next lot over so employees were carrying food a pretty long distance to the tables. Â I'm not sure how I feel about that given the sheer numbers of flying critters in Florida.
We ended up at the Pelican place across the street.
I was down in Florida visiting family on Capri and stopped in to Island Gypsy in search of a nice sit down breakfast without going too far. Â I was not overly impressed, but considering the fact that its actually on Capri, the lack of travel necessity is definitely worth something.
Atmosphere: Â Outdoor seating under gazebo-y pavilions or umbrellas on a deck surrounded by the marina. Â It's a relatively nice place to hang out if you're not looking for wide-open water views. Â As far as I can tell there is no inside, so if its hot out and sweltering isn't your thing then you may want to head elsewhere.
Food: Â Passable. Â Not terribly expensive. Â It took a very long time (for egg dishes) to come out -- almost a half hour possibly. Â I had a very basic two-egg breakfast with home fries and wheat toast. Â My over-easy eggs were nicely cooked and the wheat bread was above average, but half of the potatoes were obviously undercooked. Â It seems they didn't have enough prepared and tried to rush it and mix it in, but it was very obvious. Â
Service: Â Passable. Â Our server wasn't especially skilled and because the kitchen is so far away he was constantly running (literally) back and forth to bring food out to his tables.
Overall I'd say this is an average option if you're already on Capri or are looking for something near the water, but don't want to deal with Marco or other busy locales.
What a treasure tucked away in Isle of Capri! A chill tiki bar where the food is actually fantabulous. Â You will find more locals than tourists here and the bar stools are actually comfortable, which most bars neglect. Â I do wish they had hooks at the bar for purses but I love'em anyway. Â Enjoy looking out over the marina and catch the sunset.
So, I can swear to you that you will love the food. The coconut shrimp is packed with flavor and you get 8 large shrimp for an appetizer. Â The fish tacos get my highest recommendation...I am a fish taco snob even, and these are really impressive. They are made with blackened mahi and a special zippy sauce. I haven't had it yet, but 2 separate groups at the bar also bragged about the grouper sandwich. Â I can't wait to go back. The bartender Steven will take good care of you...go see for yourself and enjoy the view!
This is my new favorite spot. Â It sits on Tarpon Bay and is located at the Isles of Capri Marina. Â You cannot have a better view of the water without having to deal with touristy cheesiness or outrageous prices. Â The bartenders, waitstaff, and owner are incredibly friendly. Â The food, especially the pizza, is very good. Â The atmosphere is very Key West, but without the trashiness or weird smells. Â Just a fun and low-key atmosphere. Very unique spot that has not become overrun with tourists or townies.
