My husband and I visited J. Fins for dinner and truly enjoyed every second of it. It was too cold and rainy to sit outside but the entire dining room is filled with huge windows that overlook the lake. The view was incredible!
Our server, Dawn, is definitely one of the restaurant's most valuable assets. She was personable, informative and very friendly.
Our meal was also great, we had some of the best calamari we've ever tried, it was served with a delicious chili sauce that was out of this world. My husband had the prime rib special and I had the salmon, both were among the best we've had.
Overall, the environment really took the cake. The management was very involved and caring and our server was by far one of the best servers I've ever had anywhere. We are so happy with our dining experience here and we are already planning our next visit!
We went to J Fins last weekend and enjoyed a beautiful Sunday evening on the deck. Â Why five stars? Â Good food, service, and an awesome covered deck facing the setting sun, the musician was singing all the good beach-y, sing-a-long tunes, perfect for the day....Brown Eyed Girl, American Pie, Piano Man, songs by Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, John Denver, etc. Â The server named off the specials, had her recommendations, all without us asking. Â Sounds like not much to some, but let's just say you don't get that in a lot of restaurants here without having to ask. Â
My husband had the strip steak with mashed potatoes -- I believe there was nutmeg in the mashed potatoes -- it was DELICIOUS. Â Made us both ask "what is that something in the potatoes?" Â I had the Chicken Marsala ($15.95) and I smelled it as it was coming towards the table...mmm! Â The zucchini and squash that came with our meals was perfectly tender-crisp, but there was quite a bit of oil/butter surrounding it on the plate. Â (That was my only gripe of the meal).
J Fins is not located on the main drag in Sackets Harbor -- it is worth the trip to try to find it, in the Madison Barracks area, located behind the Marina Inn and Suites. Â Prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area. Â We were offered the military discount once the server found out we were from the Fort Drum area. Â My husband summed it up halfway through our dining experience with -- "I don't want to go home."
The hostess simply said your table Is ready on the deck and walked away so we had to find it ourselves. Server took 15 minutes to speak to the table for the first time. Appetizer came out fast but it took the server about 10 minutes to get plates for the table.
The main dishes took over an hour to come out after we finished out apps. They were very simple sandwiches and burgers. The restaurant was not busy enough to justify a long wait. The food was average at best.
2 appetizers, 4 sandwiches, and 1 round of drinks = $100
