I have been to Jabo's at least a dozen times. Â Unfortunately the food and or service is inconsistent. Â At times their food is good ( mostly good) but the service has been disappointing. Â My wife and I have all but marked them off a place to eat. Â Consistency is important. Â Atmosphere(ambience) is important. Â Jabo's keeps changing menu items. Â I hope they can get their act together.
Review Source:I've been to this place half a dozen times and I flat give up on getting a meal without some major flaw of food or service. The last time I was there we waited 40 minutes for our food and my fries were so limp I was able to fold them into little pretzel shapes and leave them on the edge of my plate.
Tonight my husband wanted to try their new coal-fired pizzas, so I agreed to go back for the first time in 7 months. We ordered a pizza, then our server came back after a few minutes and informed us they were out of pizza dough and couldn't make any more pizzas till tomorrow. Mind you, it was quarter to 7. Â After previous bad experiences, my priority was to find the menu item that was hardest to screw up, so I ordered the grilled cheese and mashed potatoes. Â The potatoes were quite good, but my sandwich was a joke. Â The cheese was rubbery from being allowed to sit before our food got run, the bread had no butter to help it brown, and one side had been badly burned then scraped to get the worst of the char off. Â They turned that side down as though I wouldn't notice. Â
Then, while we were waiting for the bill, we sat and watched them PUT TWO PIZZAS IN THE OVEN. When we complained, the manager explained these were for personal friends of the owner who had called and "reserved" a couple of crusts before we came in.
In the manager's defense, she did offer to have them make me a replacement sandwich or comp me a dessert, and she did shame the owner into offering us a free pizza if we come back tomorrow.
Hey, went back to Jabo's for a class reunion and ended up eating here again. Â I had been incredibly reluctant to revisit this place since the last fiasco. Â However, I stopped in for the reunion and ordered from the menu a "Full Monty Christo" and some fries. Â This sandwich is turkey, ham and swiss, batter dipped and deep fried (yeah...I uttered those magic words "deep fried") and then sprinkled with powdered sugar and a raspberry sauce. Â With this sandwich you get the main course and dessert all together. Â I had this monstrosity of a sandwich with a pile of salty, golden brown, crisp, french fries (apparently the "house" fry wasn't doing well and has since been removed from the menu...thank goodness). Â Great meal and fairly good service.
Looks like Jabo's has taken folks past comments to heart and have made the necessary changes. Â I'll be back to see if it sticks. Â Then...we'll make a final review.
