We were also traveling, and Bowling Green is a small place. Â There weren't a whole lot of other choices out here. Â Very orderly looking place. Â A few locals, who seemed like regulars, and a few visitors. Â My wife had the green curry with chicken. Â I had the red curry with chicken, and a side of potato salad. Â Don't usually find that in a Thai restaurant, in Los Angeles! Â
Everything was tasty, and nicely done. Â Authentic stuff, in my experience. No fears about eating here.
We stopped here for lunch while traveling. Overall, the experience was surprisingly good! Bowling Green is a pretty small place, so we were surprised to find a cafe serving Thai food. The food wasn't all that remarkable, but it was certainly tasty.
The interior of Jack's is small and a bit dark: there are probably ten or so tables. There's a big TV at one end of the room which was on a bit too loud... I really wasn't in the mood to watch "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?," but didn't have much of a choice. It looked like the clientele was a mix of locals and travelers. The waitress was very friendly, although a bit absent-minded. She accidentally served us water with lemon instead of the iced teas we ordered and tried to give one table the food a different one had ordered.
The menu is made up of traditional American sandwiches, as well as a number of Thai dishes (the cook is a Thai woman). My father started with the Tom Yum Gum soup, which he deemed very credible. I ordered the pulled pork quesadilla which was tasty. The pork was excellent and the nicely toasted tortilla shell in which it was served was a good vehicle for it. The quesadilla came with bottled salsa, bottled cheese sauce, and sour cream on the side; however, all I wanted with the dish was a little bit of the sour cream... the salsa and cheese would have overwhelmed the smoky, slightly peppery taste of the pork. Other members of my party sampled the fried tofu (nice and crispy), crabcake (very acceptable), and the Thai Basil Chicken, which was a Friday special. This last dish wasn't particularly spicy, but it was very well-made and had a nice, but not overwhelming, flavor from the basil.
