My friend took me here in August of 2010 when I visited Buffalo, NY and I can't forget about these wings. Â They're so good that I had a dream about them last night! To give you an idea about how good they are...I'm a little under a 100 lbs and I scarfed down 25 slider wings. Â Like the previous reviewer said..The wings are nice an crispy on the outside and the inside is super tender and juicy. Â The sauce is just amazing...it's just a tad bit sweet and plain awesome.
Review Source:Nestled nicely in the ever quaint Sanborn, NY, population less than 5500, stands proudly The Marlboro Inn. The Marlboro in was once a boarding house in the 1800s. It's North most side had extended all the way to the rail road tracks and was also used as a train station. This place has some neat history to it.
I however have been coming to the Marlboro since the mid-90s. Of course I wasn't nearly of age to drink, but then, we did anyway. Of course, smokers were still able to get away with puffing indoors only until around 2006-ish. The "boro" has changed it's inner garments since the mid-90's only recently since new owners have purchased the place. It now dons the orange and black stripes, making a play on the Harley Davidson colors. As in the summer time there will be a line of "hogs" parked out front. It boasts a black and white checkered floor, a pool table, a juke box, and a dart board. There is a dining room in the back nearest the kitchen, and on Saturday nights host bands reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd and such. This place is a real gem if you want to toss on your Carhart jacket and boots. All kidding aside, it's pretty decent inside. Clean and no-nonsense. The new owners really whipped the place into shape.
So onto the chow. I'm just going to get at it here...the wings, best wings in WNY. Best wings I've ever had in my life. They've been this way since I've been going here for the past 15 years. This place is known for its chicken wings and fish fries, and they do not disappoint. They offer typical mild, medium, hot, BBQ and "sliders." Sliders are the boro's special sauce. They wont tell you what it is, and every time I eat a slider I try to figure out what it is that I taste. It's of a honey consistency, and is semi-sweet, and is absolutely breath taking. This is worth the drive from Buffalo. Quite frankly when the ownership changed hands I'm surprised that the former owner passed the recipe on. The wings are nicely crisp to a light brown on the outside, while the inside is tender and bursting with juicy, tender chicken meat. They're of great size too, they don't skimp here at all. I've had wings all over Buffalo, I can say these are the best. Anyone I have brought here has agreed with ease. Everyone has their own taste and preference for wings. If you;re a wing connoisseur, I recommend you connoisseur these. I literally went back a second night in a row for these wings, to test consistency of course.
Now the fish. My girlfriend and I have been on a "find a the best fish fry" kick for about 6 months now. We've been trying all over the area, they've been good. But these piece of fish blew me away. Again, everyone has their preference. However, this was a nice size piece, lightly browned and crispy on the outside. The inside was light and fresh. And when I used my fork to cut, the fish just flaked off in large slabs. It was the essence of fried bliss. My table was abuzz of glory and lightly browned goodness. This wonder is only served on Fridays.
The boro has a decent deal on pizza as well, $10 gets you a large pizza. It's not a great pizza, but it's a decent little deal.
I tried the pulled pork during my second visit, since fish isn't served on a Saturday. It was mediocre. Not their specialty. The pork was minced up far too much, as to a pulp. And it really didn't have much taste to it.
The beer is cheap, they have a lot on tap from Rusty Chain to Bud. The waitresses are super nice and chatty. If there is snow on the ground there will usually be a bunch of snowmobiles parked outside and a lot of helmets on the tables inside.
A few things to keep in mind. You can go here with friends to eat and drink and close the bar at 2am...Niagara County. Or you can bring your family if you come during typical dinner hours. My 1.5 year old nephew came and was fine. On Fridays they don't serve wings until after 8pm as to not disturb the frier grease for the fish. Wednesday is their wing specials...it's hard to get a table because they'll be packed. Sanborn, NY offers hidden gems such as the Farm Museum, a huge Antique Trading post, and a really cute little post office. And the reservation is about five minutes away, for cheap gas.
Toss on your blue-ist jeans, some boots, and maybe a jean jacket or a tap out shirt and hit up the boro. It'll be worth the drive, whether you come by car or snowmobile.
