Blah and bleck and boo. Food is typical Midwestern fair, drenched in mayonnaise and deep fried, which makes it pretty much impossible to eat here if your vegetarian or gluten free or simply trying to eat healthy. Which is fine, I'm all for my occasional comfort food, but the wait staff should be a little more informed about the menu, and a little more tolerant to accommodate their guests.  I realized later that while I was ordering, I was apologizing profusely for "all" my requests, but really all I asked was for no croutons, and whether The Stack salad had any breading, or if it was truly, simply lump crab meat in a dressing. In my opinion, those aren't very big requests or inquiries, but looking back I was made to feel like it was just impossible and absurd to even ask. Ultimately, I got served an eye-roll and a salad with croutons. Otherwise, our waiter was missing for long stretches of time and left us chewing on ice cubes and wishing for attention. The real deal-breaker that sealed the one star review, was the insulting, confrontational bartender who INSISTED my husband was lying when we asked if he was sure he poured the beer he had ordered. It was actually kind of funny and has given us laughable material that will probably last us a while, but it was still insulting when we set my husband's beer on the bar next to a freshly poured Oberon, and it was so painfully obvious that my husband's beer was a varietal of lite, transparent beer, and the just-poured Oberon was that recognizable cloudy, golden goodness. The whole thing could have been remedied if the bartender had laughed with us, and agreed to knock the beer off the tab. I probably would have even forgotten about crouton-gate mentioned above, and would have just gone away a little hungry, as opposed to insulted. Instead, it turned into a loud, argumentative, accusatory, exchange and left us feeling like little kids that just got scolded... or maybe bullied is more accurate. Generally none of the aforementioned feelings (hungry, insulted, scolded, bullied) are how one wants to feel when leaving a restaurant, but if you're into that, then by all means, grab a table at Jimmy's. There are plenty open and available.

    Jimmy's was absolutely wonderful!

Planned a dinner for a very large group (18) a few weeks ago.  Worked closely with the owner and staff to take advantage of the beautiful outdoor patio and keep the dinner moving so we could head out for more festivities and in fairness, not take over the prime seating for the entire night.

The food was excellent, the outdoor patio was the perfect summer setting and we can't say enough about how delightful and gracious the entire staff was.  Will definitely go back anytime we are in town and recommend to friends.

Been here for dinner with my family at least once for the last 3 years, and besides being family friendly (kid menu), the food is good.  The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the service has been very hit or miss when we go.  This place could really take off if they could find a way to get this resolved.

My family and I use to love Jimmys! However, the last few times I have been the hostess has told me that my party would have to wait at least 30 minutes to be seated because the kitchen was busy and needed a break! I have NEVER heard of a restaurant telling you they wont seat you because the kitchen was too busy(espeically in the summer months)! Mind you, their were plenty of tables open inside and outside! Cant you just sit customers and let them know the food may take a little longer than usual, instead of making customers wait 30 mins to be seated when you have many open tables! Very disappointed in Jimmys! Can not wait for Stray Dog to reopen!

We frequent Jimmys, and we have never been disappointed with the food or service.  I personally love their BBQ Chicken Salad and I recommend their Soup of the Day - which is never disappointing.  My husband always orders the Rueben sandwich with onion peels. They have a great speciality martini menu, the staff has always been friendly but then we usually  sit at the bar, and the atmosphere is clean and modern. We always recommend Jimmy's to our friends.

This place gets 4 stars for food only. Jimmy's really lacks ambiance, but my burger was above average good. We were seated in a small booth for two but it felt like a little cubby whole and the restaurant was not even half full. Also, we were way over dressed for this crowd. There's just no character to the restaurant, which made it not memorable. I got the classic burger and added cheddar cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. As I said, it was definitely an above average burger, but I probably won't be back to this place for lack of ambiance.

I love Jimmy's! Luckily it's an hour away from my house, otherwise I'd want to eat here at least once a week, no joke. I have gone twice in a one day. On more than one occassion.

Their burgers are some of the best I have ever had. Hands down. Juicy and flavorful. I am also a big fan of their fries.

There has been some inconsistent service at times but the burgers more than make up for it. Nice setting, too. Don't be fooled that it is located next to a dollar store.

They have a rather extensive menu but I've never tried anything else because I can't bear to miss out on the burger. I want one right now.

(PS: If you make the trip out, maybe call ahead. There is one weekday that they are closed, and once a friend went by and they were randomly closed for no apparent reason).

Blah.  How does this place have such good reviews?  I spent $45 and left underwhelmed.  Headed here for a bachelorette party dinner...

Our waitress was OK but some of the girls said she had an attitude.  I ordered the tomato soup, scallop and shrimp pasta, which came with what they called garlic bread.  The soup was good, but not worth going back for.  The pasta was terrible!  There was grease and oil on the plate, the scallops were seared but sort of gummy, and the shrimp and pasta itself had no flavor.  I've had better pasta at Olive Garden.

Like a lot of bar & grill places, the menu is confused and lacks identity.  Burgers, sandwiches, salads, steaks, pasta - what's good here?  They should eliminate pasta completely from the menu.

One had a burger, said it was terrible and she was charged $2 for cheese.  Two had steaks and mashed potatoes and said the mashed potatoes weren't good.  How do you screw up mashed potatoes?

The only thing I liked about this place was the drink list.  I tried an Almond Joy martini, which was a nice dessert.  Typical prices, $8-10 for a martini, but again - the martini wasn't worth coming back for.

My husband and I held our Rehearsal Dinner here on 9.7.12. Everyone including us loved the restaurant. It was very clean, modern with new interior finishes, and best of all, the food is amazing. We did a buffet style dinner which included filet, Lake Michigan perch, and cajun chicken pasta. The owner Jim could not have been more accomadating. He is a very professional business man, and is a man of his word. We had ordered the Charlie Trotter steak, and when they arrived the morning of, Jim upgraded us to the filet at no charge because of his high standards. The service was great and quick, and the wine list/champage is very extensive. I would highly reccomend Jimmy's for any event. They treat you top notch and they do not miss a beat in regards to your expectations, service, quality, responsiveness, and professionalism. Thank you Jim and to your staff for making our dinner so wonderful!

Jimmy's is pretty good. The prices are high, but you are in New Buffalo. They have pretty good decor. Though, I do not like the mini booth seating. The servers are good. I like a few of their items. I do no like their fries. When ever I eat them, I feel sick. :( They have a good Turkey Ruben Sandwich. You just have to ask for it.

I love the atmosphere. I have been to Jimmy's quite a few times in the last two months and have been impressed each time. It is right off the hwy. and down the street from my a studio I just opened. Matter of fact...I think I am going to order lunch right now from there!

Stopped there two years ago on our way home from Chicago and we were blown away by the food and the service. It was a destination spot for us this time through and unfortunately we were disappointed all around. It felt like they've lost their edge. Typical bar food.

We really liked the food.  The overall management was a little shaky at the start, they seemed overwhelmed because they were so busy, but once they got it together, it was as if there had never been an issue.

We were very relaxed.  Good drink selections and again, we loved the food.  I had a salad, my husband had one of the burgers.

They're off the beaten path which makes it a good alternative to the places on the main strip which are usually ridiculously packed.

    We'll go back for sure.

Restaurant decor is interesting and intriguing, yet slightly distracting. Once I stopped gazing at the 2 waterfalls, shooting stars, and pictures of a random collection of mid-century celebrities; we ordered the calamari for an appetizer. Portion size was small considering the price, but tasted excellent... really good!
After being hurried by the waitstaff, who made it clear that we were her last table before leaving, I ordered the "Heart Attack Burger" which is 2 patties with strips of bacon on top. A good burger, however, like other comments about the burgers and steaks, my medium-rare burger was given to me too well done. My caesar salad was tasty, but the dressing was oddly warm (is this odd? I'm used to cold caesar dressing...hmm). Overall, a good meal, but room for improvement. While the group I was with all enjoyed their meals, no one was blown away.
After dinner we moved to the bar so we could listen to the band (and our hurried waitress could leave). The female bartender ignored us at first, but finally served us after asking "Why are you moving up here now?". I found this rude.
Overall... Food was good. Service was poor. Price is slightly expensive. An interesting, but odd experience.

    Well, Jimmy's very unusual.

Of the many lines from the classic Seinfeld episode that raced through my mind when we were here, that one sums it up perfectly.  From the menu, to the decor, to the spotty service.  Just kind of odd.  Good, but different.  The decor was the first thing I noticed.  It seemed like it was trying too hard.  Waterfall in the entrance, fireplace and starlit ceiling complete with shooting stars.  Maybe just choose one.  The menu had a lot of options from burgers, steaks and ribs to fish and pasta.  Plenty to choose from and that left me undecided and distracted from the shooting stars streaking across the ceiling.  When we were greeted by our server we got a bottle of wine and some bruschetta to start.  It was good with lots of feta, but needed more crustinis.  For our mains, my wife had the blackened tilapia with veggies and I had the sausage and peppers penne.  It was a huge bowl of pasta with sausage, green peppers, onions, artichoke hearts and portabellas smothered in mozzerella.  It was something different and I really liked it.  Kris liked the tilapia which had a nice kick from the seasonings.  We were pleasantly surprised with the food which was solid.  Service was a bit off all night and we seemed to be always needing refills and sitting with dirty plates.  It wasn't at all crowded, so that shouldn't happen.

All said we were pleased with Jimmy's, which the in laws have been raving about.  I think I'd prefer it as a lunch option since the burgers and sandwiches look really good.

    Jimmy's gonna get you Kramer!

All I can comment on is the Lobster Bisque as we stopped in on the advice of a friend.  Based on that, and that alone, all I can say is "wow!"

It is awesome, and if they can turn out something like that, there has to be magic elsewhere on the menu.

Decor is nice, service was excellent.  Two quarts of the soup followed us out the door.

Looking forward to going again, and trying out the rest of the menu.

About 6 months ago I would have rated this place a solid 4.  The martinis were good, the wait staff was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious!  However, my husband and I have been back several times, and we have grown increasingly disappointed and dissatisfied.  We always order our steaks medium rare.  The chef ALWAYS overcooks them.  They come out well done every time.  The wait staff has grown increasingly disappointing as well.  They don't check on you, don't offer refills and we're left trying to flag someone down for our bill - even when the place isn't busy!!  What has happened to this place?!  Jimmy's, you have some explaining to do!

Stop and smell the Chicago-style burgers...WHAT!?

Yes, I admit it. I'm somewhat uptight when it comes to "getting back on the road" and getting to a destination (in this case, St. Joe's) on time. However, my driver was in need of sustenance...and convinced me that perhaps I was taking life a little too literally. Indeed, I was. Plus, let's face it...Quizno's & Co are nasty.

So, we sat down for lunch at Jimmy's...and it was surprisingly....good. I had the "Chicago-style" burger (blasphemy if you ask me, but hey) and it was A-Ok. Sport peppers are a little weird on a burger, but it was a satisfying meal accompanied by some tasty fries. No complaints. There seems to be a lot of Chicago-inspired menu items, as aforementioned driver ordered the Italian Beef. It was gone, so I'll assume he was either 1. ravenous or 2 the sandwich was on par. Same fries, same empty plate.

    Plusses:
    .8 miles from 94.
    Not a fast food restaurant.
    Clean bathrooms.
    Alcohol.
    Above average fare.
Cheeky decor, though I'm not sure if its totally intentional.

    Minuses:
    Pepsi products
    Group of men talking "golf."

Roadtrip restaurant approved, I'm sure I'll be stopping again on my many voyages north.

I'm dropping my previous rating by two stars.   I've been here several times since my first post and the food seem to be getting worse.   The last time I came here my "medium-rare" steak was completely well done - it wasn't even close to what I ordered.  I asked the server to check with the chef and they came back telling me that in fact that's how medium rare looks.  Apparently it's supposed to be charred to a crisp.

What happened guys??  This place was great and now it's like they're not putting in any effort anymore.

Fantastic burger! One of the best I have ever had.  Be sure to try the Tex Mex burger and ask for bottle caps on top!  Nice place, great for family and friends.

The bartender had sand in her panties, so her attitude towards us was negative from the start which made our drinks and apps taste like we took a bunch of awful pills.  Cheapish beer, decent appetizers, and service only Hades could love.

    Huge pass.

It's decided that it's time to get away from Chicago for the weekend.  ROAD TRIP!  After listening to the amazing "In Rainbows" by Radiohead and getting through all of the fucking construction on 294/80/94/90/etc., it's time to piss by the time we reach New Buffalo, MI.  We exit 94 and find Jimmy's Bar & Grill.  "Let's get a beer and pee and get back on the road."  (sounds a bit contradictory, come to think about it...)

Jimmy's is exactly what is claims to be, a bar and grill that serves up $5 lunches consisting of your basic burger/fries, turkey club, grilled cheese...   It's very clean and the service is great.  We did not eat here as we were saving our stomachs for Clementine's "Mess of Lake Perch" in St. Joseph, MI.  Though, the Lobster Bisque served in sourdough bread (like the craptastic Panera does) that our barmate was eating looked fantastic.  I was surprised to see Lobster Bisque at such a simple bar & grill.

Check out the photos posted...Jimmy's has a sense of humor!!!

Anyhow, 1 pint of Lite + 1 ginormous 7-up = $3.00.  While we all bitch that gas is expensive, not everything else has to be.  Road trips are still a feasible and fun way to get away from the city and just be...

Nice place, not cheap, but the food is really good.  Sandwiches are between $8 - $10, dinner entrees from around $15 - $22.  I only tried their gyro sandwich and was pretty happy with it.  A lot of places don't do it well, but this place does.  The place has a bar and the interior is well done.  Not a cheap lunch place, but more of a nice restaurant.
