Interesting restaurant. Â First, the place was bought out and it's now called Ryan's. Â Second, it looks like a good little hometown restaurant until you look around and start to eat. Â The food was a mixed bag of bad, OK, and tolerable. Â
Service was good but I think we all could have done without seeing the dishwasher walk out with half of her butt hanging out. Â We were also a little concerned once we noticed that flies were landing on/in the buffet food and nothing was being done about it. Â I personally spent about 20 minutes in the bathroom last night and I'm fairly sure that it was because we ate at this restaurant. Â
Avoid unless it's the only thing open.
This place is great! Â My mom and I come to Wauseon once a year for the Midwest GeoBash, a big event on the summer geocaching calendar. Â For the last 3 years we've been sure to include a stop at this local gem. Â The decor is very eclectic and filled with local memorabilia as well as signs and trinkets from far and wide. Â
When you walk in, you are hit with what seems an ordinary buffet. Â It's anything but. Â I am not normally a buffet person, I can count on one hand the number of buffets I've visited in the last 5 years (including the 2 trips here and i've still got fingers left). Â I can honestly say this is one I look forward to. Â The fried chicken is crispy and tasty, Â The mashed potatoes and gravy are real and everything is HOT, not a temperature usually found on a buffet. Â The salad bar is also quite good and it's so nice to find spinach available as well as the standard iceberg mix. Â I don't know what they do, but don't pass up the croutons.
My mom usually orders off the menu and has never been disappointed. Tonight she had a grilled ham sandwich and loved it. Â It was served on toasted bread that was buttery and fresh.
Most people in the restaurant seemed to be taking advantage of the seafood buffet which featured all you can eat crab legs. Â I'm not a seafood lover, but it seemed like a bargain at $14.99. Â I think this is a Friday night special. Â My seafood-less buffet with salad bar was $10.99.
I'm sure that we will continue our yearly visit to John Weber's and spread the word to others.
