The chicken was very good. The chicken was moist and had a light taste. The coleslaw was sweet for my taste, but my wife loved it. Â The fries were good.
The restroom needed cleaning. Probably a 4 (with 1 very dirty and 10 very clean).
The tables were wiped down, but could have used a bit of soap to remove the grease from the previous customer.
The food was ok and hot. Go there if you want a change from your typical fast food chain restaurant
I had heard that Joyce's serves the 'best fried chicken in the south.'
When I found myself in Hahira GA, I just had to see for myself.
Having spent a lot of time in Lowndes county GA as a kid, I've eaten some of the best home fried chicken on the planet.
Joyces is located on  Main street  just west of downtown Hahira and the railroad tracks that bisect it,  in a nondescript building next to a car wash. The inside is plain, with Formica tables and metal chairs.
While it isn't fancy, it's very clean. Even the unisex restroom is clean.
Our party of three all had fried chicken, of course, both white and dark pieces.
Every piece was crispy and light brown on the outside, but still moist on the inside. Even my huge breast was perfectly done. None of our chicken was greasy, and the seasonings were just as I remembered from my boyhood. Â
Sides included fries, mac n cheese, green beans, and cole slaw.
The crinkle fries were a light golden color, and like the chicken, not at all greasy.
The mac n cheese was nothing to get excited about. We didn't try the green beans, because we all remember the overcooked pork flavored beans from our youth, and expected these to be the same. Maybe next time.
The cole slaw is of the sweet variety, with the interesting addition of sweet pickle. After the surprise wore off, We all enjoyed every bite of it.
I told the owner that we had heard he served the best fried chicken in the South. He replied that Joyces serves the best fried chicken in the country.
Since they don't have fried chicken in the northern states, "we kind of won them by default" he said.
Is this the best fried chicken in the USA? I can't really say, because I haven't tried them all yet.
But I WILL stop in again when I find myself anywhere near Hahira GA.
From I-75, take Exit 29 toward Hahira, its less than a mile on your left.
It's well worth the slight detour.
Oh, and they have other things to eat, too. Hamburgers, pork chops, fish....
