Competent host and waitress. Food was absolutely nothing special. Smothered chicken was dry. Roasted asparagus was good but part of it was too chewy. Baked potato was fine but, sour cream came in a pre-packaged tube.
Maybe I was expecting too much because the hotel clerk recommended this place, but it was just nothing special. Exactly what you would expect from a place close enough to the interstate that it doesn't need to rely on repeat business from locals to stay in business.
We were three Yanquis driving from Florida back to Chicago on our annual snowbird trip down to beautiful Sarasota. Â Stopped by JW Steakhouse on a whim. Â Was pleasantly surprised. Â The waitstaff who greeted and served us was funny ... like we've known her since forever. Â
We ordered fried green tomatoes for our appetizer ... Wonderful, crispy on the outside, tart inside. Â The breading was some sort of Japanese bread crumbs. Â I and a friend had the classic burger with fries. Â Excellent, very hearty and cooked to my specification - medium well. Â
My other friend had the grilled chicken breast with coleslaw and baked sweet potato on the side. Â My friend couldn't get over how delicious the slaw was - in vinaigrette dressing, no mayonnaise. Â She also liked the sweet potato - very sweet and creamy. Â JW, the owner talked to us and said they used to get their sweet potatoes locally, but this batch was from Mississippi.
For dessert, we shared the homemade peach cobbler. Â Oh boy, made from scratch, sweet, warm from the oven and topped with.vanilla ice cream. Â The best.
If you are traveling through I-65, stop by Pricevillle, AL .. The restaurant Is near the highway, it has a "big chain" feel to it, but really, it's local and very cozy. Â It deserves more than a one star that the previous reviewer gave.
We got there the Saturday before Father's Day. Â There were only one other table of people there. Â No one else was there. Â It was around 4:15pm. Â
We were greeted by a hoard of teenagers, I assume that work there, around the hostess station talking. Â They sat us and then we waited. Â No one came within a few minutes. Â We were not impressed. Â We weren't given all of the menu options either. Â They advertise a special dinner for two at a discounted rate. Â That wasn't left with us. Â
I got up and looked at the health score on the wall near us. Â It was in the 80's. Â I couldn't read what they'd done wrong, as they had it posted way too high to be easily read by the public. Â
When I came back to the table, we had still not had anyone wait on us. Â SO we decided to leave. Â There wasn't an adult working there in sight. Â We left and went to LongHorn Steakhouse. Â It was worth the 20 minute wait to actually have servers that want your business.
We'll never give this place another shot. Â They ought to have someone over 18 watching the floor for pete's sake, too. Â
You see all these people there and not one of them waits on you in 5 minutes time...when you are one of two tables sat in the entire place!?! Â No wonder LongHorn was slammed when we went there, and they had only one other table sat at JW's. Â Geeze.
