Hole in the wall cafe. I had lunch here passing through, and it was acceptable. The place was packed for lunch. I'll stop again if the occasion warrants it. Fries were tasty.

Since I was out in Quanah for a wedding and it was lunchtime we decided to hunt down some food.  There were only a few choices so we went to the one that was most packed - K&R Kitchen.

This place does some mighty business y'all.  It was packed at all times during its opening hours.  Ambiance is basically like a hole in the wall diner.  Kitchen is open and you can see the ladies and gents back there cooking away.  I am gonna be honest, the place needed a bit of a scrubbing and sweeping...especially the kitchen area that I could see.  But whatever, I was hungry so I was gonna eat.

Apparently the big draw here is the steak.  They get the steaks from ranchers or some such.  Too bad no one told me this in advance because I ordered the burger with some onion rings.  The BF got the chicken fried steak and some fries.

The burger was standard diner.  Not too thin, not cooked to a hockey puck which was nice, with a white bun and mustard.  Tasted like a burger you'd get at your mom'n'ems so it was A-OK.  Onion rings appeared to be home made as they weren't perfectly breaded.  Actually really tasty.  The fries were better since there were a lot of crunchy ones which are my fave.  The chicken fried steak - holy shit, this thing is enormous.  Actually really tasty.  I think this is what you should order when you are hitting up K&R.  Diet coke comes in the can and they bring a cup of ice for you to pour it into.  And when I needed a refill they brought another can without an extra charge so that was great.

Overall an A-OK place to stop and get some food if you are driving through Quanah.  If you live in Quanah then you already know about this place judging from the crowds.  Get the steak and enjoy.

    A hidden gem!!!
I have eaten here a few times on my drive from DFW to Amarillo.  I make it a point to hit around lunch or dinner time.  Everything I've had has been amazing and I'm really picky.  The food is great, the prices reasonable, and it's definitely where the locals eat.  If you want pie order it when you order your food, or it might be gone by the time you get around to ordering dessert.
Looking forward to my next visit!
