Since I was out in Quanah for a wedding and it was lunchtime we decided to hunt down some food. Â There were only a few choices so we went to the one that was most packed - K&R Kitchen.
This place does some mighty business y'all. Â It was packed at all times during its opening hours. Â Ambiance is basically like a hole in the wall diner. Â Kitchen is open and you can see the ladies and gents back there cooking away. Â I am gonna be honest, the place needed a bit of a scrubbing and sweeping...especially the kitchen area that I could see. Â But whatever, I was hungry so I was gonna eat.
Apparently the big draw here is the steak. Â They get the steaks from ranchers or some such. Â Too bad no one told me this in advance because I ordered the burger with some onion rings. Â The BF got the chicken fried steak and some fries.
The burger was standard diner. Â Not too thin, not cooked to a hockey puck which was nice, with a white bun and mustard. Â Tasted like a burger you'd get at your mom'n'ems so it was A-OK. Â Onion rings appeared to be home made as they weren't perfectly breaded. Â Actually really tasty. Â The fries were better since there were a lot of crunchy ones which are my fave. Â The chicken fried steak - holy shit, this thing is enormous. Â Actually really tasty. Â I think this is what you should order when you are hitting up K&R. Â Diet coke comes in the can and they bring a cup of ice for you to pour it into. Â And when I needed a refill they brought another can without an extra charge so that was great.
Overall an A-OK place to stop and get some food if you are driving through Quanah. Â If you live in Quanah then you already know about this place judging from the crowds. Â Get the steak and enjoy.
A hidden gem!!!
I have eaten here a few times on my drive from DFW to Amarillo. Â I make it a point to hit around lunch or dinner time. Â Everything I've had has been amazing and I'm really picky. Â The food is great, the prices reasonable, and it's definitely where the locals eat. Â If you want pie order it when you order your food, or it might be gone by the time you get around to ordering dessert.
Looking forward to my next visit!
