This place rocks! So much so that I went two days in a row back to back. It's Japanese small tapas " Izakaya" style. The staff is super friendly and the lines are out the door but I called ahead and scored a reservation (it helps if you say you're visiting from NY).

The food is delicious and well-priced. I ordered nearly everything on the menu...

The amaebi sashimi was awesome, three HUGE prawns for only $6.50 CDN, and they fry the tails for you if you ask them. The kimchi udon is great (they make it dry). The sashimi/seared tuna tataki is amazing..

It does get noisy- all the waitresses - simply take your order and then yell it out loud at the chefs (think Starbucks when they take your order and then yell it out to the baristas)

Anyway - it's awesome.. Guu is GUUOOD!

This is one of the best izakaya places (well, out of all the izakayas i've been to so far) outside of Japan.  relatively small and cozy, great selection of small dishes to go with your beer/sake. when i went there, i felt like i was back in japan enjoying nomihodai (all you can drink for 2 hours).  note: guu doesn't have nomihodai.

Overll Rating: 5 stars (for all ex-expats from japan out there, this is the place to go when you miss your days in japan)

This place is sooooo good. The Croquette was really amazing. The staff was friendly. And, like Roland said, definitely check out the special menu. You'll find really delectable items.

Get there early. We were there on a Saturday early evening, and we arrived around 5:15...there were already people waiting (the place opens at 5:30). Definitely worth it tho.

I am a Japanese Izakaiya food snob. This was my first time in vancouver and although I tried Rain City, cin-cin, Bearfoot bistro, my best meal was at Guu! The four of us ordered everything on the special menu, I highly recommend:
    -Tuna Yukke
    -Shrimp Chili Pizza
    -Scallop Miso Steak
    -Okonomiyaki
    -Nama Beer (very fresh!)
    -Croquette
The whole experience was very Japanese from having to take your shoes off to sit at the tables near the window to buying shochu shots for the sushi chefs.
