My husband was in town for work for several weeks and I was up to visit for a weekend and he insisted on taking me to one of his regular places.
Kurtz's is nothing fancy, but has been around since 1904 so I can appreciate the history and ambiance. We stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night and were greeted and seated immediately.
My husband ordered a beer and I went for my usual Chardonney. Â We ordered a soft pretzel with cheddar cheese and mustard for an appetizer. The pretzel was done perfectly and if I ordered I again, I would go without the cheese (and I love cheese) and stick with just the mustard.
I'm a sucker for a good reuben so I couldn't resist ordering one here. It was a little different than the standard reuben, but very good. The corned beef was sliced very thin and was super lean. They were a little skimpy with the kraut. The sandwich included their horseradish sauce, which was really just mayo and horseradish (not a mayo fan!). The rye bread was great and the sandwich was just toasted rather than slathered in butter and grilled, which I really appreciated.
Sandwiches come with a side and I ordered the cole slaw, but they accidentally served with potato salad. The potato salad was great and our server was very apologetic and offered to bring out a side of cole slaw as well, but I declined. She also brought us a side of the chips to try since we originally couldn't decide what sides to order. The chips were kettle style and served with a side of the horseradish mayo.
My husband ordered the roll braten which was very lean, thin sliced pork tenderloin served on a nice toasty baguette, which he loved. He also ordered the potato salad as his side and said it was some of the best he has had.
This place is old school, no frills, with friendly, helpful servers (who have probably been working here for years). Everything was very reasonably priced and we would definitely go back again.
Ate at Kurtz's for the first time yesterday, after numerous rave reviews by many locals. Food was mediocre, not outstanding.
I had a soft pretzel as an appetizer and the brat for lunch. Nothing special about either dish. Being a German restaurant, I expected a stellar brat, but it was average, at best.
Service was prompt, which was a plus.
Sign says Established 1904, but no connection to the past here. If you like processed meats you've come to the right place. Menu says "oven roasted turkey breast" and waitress said as much. What came was no better than you can get from O. Mayer. Same for the corned beef. Soups taste like they are fresh...from a can. Unfortunately wait staff in these parts  don't know the difference between processed and fresh meat as this is a common occurrence.
Review Source:While loosely planning our drive to Door County (from Milwaukee) a few weeks back, we decided to stop about halfway, which would be the Two Rivers / Manitowoc area. Â Since Kurtz's Pub had a 5-star rating and I'm into Yelp, how could we not turn up to this place?
First impression is that it's definitely an old place and you can tell many have passed through it over the years. Â As I perused the menu, I came to the realization that they must not have a full kitchen (I'm still puzzled by this and not sure)... seems most of the sandwiches are either cold cuts or warmed up cold cuts. Â Not a problem, they have a stovetop / griddle area for this. Â But this does severely limit the menu options.
Our food was good, but not great. Â The service was just ok (actually slow and it wasn't that busy). Â Overall, I really don't see what is so special about this place? Â Maybe for that part of the world it is head & shoulders better than the alternatives or something? Â I guess if I had a craving for authentic German beers it would be the destination of choice.
Bottom line is I felt like it was a "destination" of sorts (see Youtube) and I walked away less than enthusiastic about ever returning. Â Although their horsey sauce was pretty damn good!
Staying near Mishicot for a wedding and we were looking for a place for two families with kids to eat.  Hit a couple of places and they weren't  too inviting.
Kurtz's was just right. Â The food was great. Â Sandwich meat was thin sliced, well-seasoned and tender. Â
For kids who like monkeys, the plastic figures on the kiddy cocktails were great.
The youngest says the chicken patty on his sandwich was a bit small but the croissant was awesome. Â Good sandwich.
Service was okay but no free refills is a negative for ;families with kids. Â Capital Amber is A plus,
Would definitely stop here again so it is worth your tine.
This place is fantastic! With a Rueben being my favorite sandwich, I am always very skeptical when I hear "we have the best Rueben"... however, theirs was terrific. They do their own horseradish sauce and make their corned beef. The bartender is extremely friendly and knows his business. On my 2nd visit I just had soup...Very tasty. They seem to hire cute omen so that's a plus... no TV's so do not go if you're trying to catch a game... I would say this is not only a must stop of Two Rivers but of all of Wisconsin.
Review Source:When visiting Chicago recently, we decided to head south to visit with of my friends who had recently moved back to the Two Rivers area to be closer to their aging families. Â
They took us for dinner at Kurtz's Pub and Deli and I must say, the food was really good! Â I did not have high expectations when they said pub but was pleasantly surprised once the food arrived.
The service was prompt, efficient and very attentive - I never had to ask for more water. Â Next time you are near Twin Rivers, give them a try!
