Went here for dinner. We asked for hibachi table and one was available but they sent the 5 us to the bar to wait. We were almost ready to leave when they finally seated us.

Food was pretty good and plentiful but it is a little expensive. Only marked three vice four because of the delay in sitting down.

Tuna sushi rolls were great, as was seaweed salad.  Price reasonable and good service.

Went to Kyoto last night (6/20/2012) for a birthday celebration.  This was my second visit and the first visit was a year ago.  I wasn't overly impressed with the food or service on the first visit but the restaurant was new and my kids liked watching the chef prepare the food so I agreed to try it again.  There was an ant crawling around on my salad and when I pointed this out, the chef's remedy was to remove the ant and serve the salad to me.  Our waittress walked up about this time and she offered to get me another salad, which I was fine with.  The salad was a hibachi chicken salad in which the vegetables were prepared in the kitchen and the chicken was cooked and added at the table.

The waittress brought another plate of lettuce and then she and the chef attempted to pick the chicken out of the original salad.   Apologies were offered when I told them I would just skip the salad.

The ant didn't bother me, it was the manner in which the chef and waittress handled the situation.   I'm pretty sure this was my last visit to Kyoto.

I think they should put up a sign saying that the hibachi grill comes with a 18% gratuity so that's one thing that make your dinner a very expensive. The food is good and the chef is pretty impressive with the chopping show. I would go back for a date but not for a family dinner.

Saw the hit and miss reviews, so had try try for myself. I read the warnings of the other reviews and had us seated in regular seating instead of the hibachi tables ( Which works out, my son is afraid of the fire anyway)  Viewing the menu items vs price; I'd say this is a much better lunch restaurant than dinner. I r eally wanted one of the bento boxes (nice variety, fabulous price) but we were too late. My son got Gyoza, the filling wasn't very favorable, but perfect for children. My husband got the special "Red velvet roll" and loved it, I ordered the combo fried rice& shrimp tempura, was good for the price you pay. They gave us a complimentary sample of the other  sushi special being offered that day, which is very nice of them.  I think I will return,  just for the lunch bento.

Excellent food and service.  Hibachi steak was delicious.  The draft beer was only $1.25.  If I'm ever traveling in Millington again, I will definitely eat here again.

    Oh joy, so many thoughts........hmmmm

    Lets begin:

This place had us VERY excited, we have eaten Japanese food all over the world, and now we wouldnt have to travel 30 miles to Memphis to have more.  God I hope gas prices go down.

The staff is a little large, 5 people folding napkins is a little much.  Maybe they are planning on huge crowds, that bodes well for us cause maybe they can put out good food.............silly us.  We counted at least 7 servers, 1 hostess, 2 busboys, and only one cookin guy (Im a little afraid to call him a chef, but well get to that later), but we didnt see who was in the back.

They sat us right down....ok, kinda crammed us into a table that was made for people of smaller size.........I guess the people where they come from are the size of a normal 9 year old in the states.  The table seated 8, and should have seated 5/6 tops.  The plywood table, yes plywood, availed us just enough space to feel like a sardine.  The distance between covers was less than 12 inches, and the distance between the customer side lip of the table and the flat top edge was a little less than 18 inches.  If they had a show, flame would have singed something on your face........luckily for our eye brows, they didnt have a show.........more like "spectacle". but im jumping ahead due to the giddy feel i have in my soul to complete this.........debacle?

Our waitress, thankfully she wasnt busy cause there were a few dozen (editors note: ok, maybe only 7) of them just standing around and bout 12 customers in the store, took our drink orders, Krista got pissed over paying 2.25 for a glass of tea, so she ordered water.........we all had water, she just ordered hers.  My son and I had a lemon with our colored water/tea, and that was good for us cause it gave that stuff some flavor.  One of the highlights of the evening.

Finally we got to the good stuff, we got to order our meal!!!  We all had chicken and steak........apparently what they really meant was chicken and meat beef..........but they called it steak....again, Im getting a little too excited about the rest of the story, and Im getting ahead of the review....sorry intrepid reader.

The soup came, and if you like frenchs fried onions (the kind they put on green bean casserole) soaked in chicken flavored water, youre in there!!!  Add some soy sauce, and youve got yourself a soup with taste.

    And now it falls apart:

Salad............salad........gingery, watery, salad..........like half the bowl was filled with some sort of liquid they think is salad dressing.........needless to say, Krista was not impressed,  nor I for that matter.  You know how most of the salad dressing at a japanese joint makes you wanna slurp it out of an up turned bowl?  Yeah not so much at Kyoto.  But its ok, cause we came for the main course right?

    okie dokie

The "chef", well, ok whats a title anyway?  They charge an additional 18% off the top to sit at those tables, apparently  plywood is expensive, cause we certainly didnt pay for the show...I mean lack of show, there wasnt one.  The cookin guy comes out and immediately starts cookin rice.  No sauce set ups, not toss an egg around...........nothin.  He cooks the rice just long enough to heat it up so its not totally sticking together, a spash of soy and that dude has a master creation of bland, tasteless rice that he sold as fried rice.  The veggies he put in the rice were diced and sweated before they even made it to his cart.  He didnt even use salt and pepper...........sesame seeds?  surely you jest.

The veggies.........I got 7, no really............7 pieces, not of each, total.  SEVEN tiny little "I put no effort into cooking some flavor into these veggies" pieces of squash, onion, and shaved carrots.......he threw more veggies in the shoot on the side of the flat top than he threw on my plate.

The bad thing is, I went there starving

Meat!!!!  Finally, well be saved by the meat.  Heres your sign.  Every place ive been in forever cut meat in front of you on the grill, not this place.  The meat beef that they called steak was cut before they brought it to the table, no biggie right?  that depends on if you want to know what part of the toughest part of the cow youre actually eating.  Those guys didnt care to let us know that, and Im pretty worried about what I just ate.  The cookin dudes knife was so dull it couldnt cut through the chicken breast quarter they gave me......but on the bright side, there was meat for 6 people on that flat top, and that dude used all of 2 tablespoons of soy sauce to season it, not the soy in addition to things like salt, pepper, garlic, ginger.....you know, things like that, nope......that was it.  Needless to say, the chicken and meat beef finished off a bland, waste of money meal in such a way...makes me proud ill never go back.

Im outta room, but no way done
