We came here because we were in the area and like the Quincy location very much.
I wish I had gone to the Quincy location. Right from the get-go, I wasn't wowed: our server had the personality of a fish, did not mention the specials at all, and almost seemed like we were bothering her. The restaurant wasn't crowded by any stretch when we arrived (although a large party came in not long after), so it shouldn't have been such long waits between visits. She didn't multi-task either; most servers take the dinner order when they bring the drinks. She dropped off the drinks, then came back several minutes later to take the dinner order. It was weird. Maybe she was having an off night though.
The food and drink were only decent, definitely not the quality of the Quincy location. The raspberry sangria should have had berries. At the VERY least, they should put fruit IN it rather than as a garnish on the side of the glass, even if they fake it by pouring non-fruit sangria over random bar fruit in my glass; it's just poor taste guys.
If you're in the Plymouth area and really NEED tex-mex, this isn't the worst place to go (I think it's the only place to go, so that's should tell you something), but you might want to take the ride to Quincy, or find another craving.
Started out with margaritas and chips & salsa which was all decent. However the main courses were subpar and not Mexican. The chicken quesadilla was slapped together with no flavor and my chimichanga was bbq flavored. Overall it just wasn't worth the price and I wouldn't go again unless I wanted to have a drink or two. Cancun restaurant is much better.
Review Source:In the interest of saving you your hard earned money: all the terrible reviews below are accurate, don't waste your time. Our meals were offered with choice of 3 sides: fried plantains (normal I guess), fruit (huh?), or cole slow (what? with Mexican? what about rice or beans?) We went with the fruit, and to our dismay it was literally the can/cup of fruit with sugar juice and preservatives, Â with artificially colored pineapples, that you ate when you were 5 years old.
We both ordered the stuffed burritos. They were supposed to come with guacamole, but we checked inside, not a drop of guacamole in either burrito. When we brought this up to our waitress, she insisted it was in there but would bring us a side of guac anyways. She did, and it later showed up on our bill as an extra $2 charge for guacamole.
Save your money and go to Chipotle.
I did not find the food as bad as the other reviewers, but we ordered the daily specials. Pulled Pork quesadilla and a Tomatillo salsa verde fish. Both were tasty, but the quesadilla needed a lot more cheese and came as a roll-up and not as I expected it.
The fish was good but needed a lot more tomatillo salsa.
The free chips and salsa were good, but they only have one type of salsa, so nothing hotter. They do have bottled hot sauce you can add though - just ask for it.
The margaritas were good and strong and reasonable priced compared to some other places I have been.
The problem with the service is they are the same 17-23 year olds that work at Chilli's or Fridays. I like going to some of the other Mexican restaurants because they actually employee Mexicans as waiters, busboys, in the kitchen and as managers.
I will try Cancun's down the road next time I am in the area.
My husband and I live in the Northeast, but have both lived in the Southwest, so we know our Mexican and we were shocked to see the "voted #1" sign out front. We took about 10 minutes to pick the shredded carrots from our salsa, thinking that would eliminate the sweetness. NOT! I tried salt, but that didn't work either. We're usually good for a couple of bowls or so of salsa between the chips and the meals. One was more than we really wanted of this stuff.
We were told they use MAPLE SYRUP in their shredded beef, so why not SUGAR in the salsa?? I bet a month's salary that's what made it so sweet...and it wasn't the slightest bit hot. Guacamole was tasteless. If the meal hadn't been so sweet, it wouldn't have had any taste at all. The whole meal screamed for a taste of acidity. When I leave a Mexican restaurant, I want my mouth to still be buzzing at least halfway home, but it felt like it was completely coated, as if I'd just eaten a bowl of ice cream. Seriously, I couldn't wait to get home and brush my teeth.
Service was OK. The server and the manager were nice and accommodating. But, dude! It's about Mexico! Not Vermont! Taco Bell is a short way from the next exit south on Rte 3. Much more authentic. Or head out to El Mariachi in Taunton. That's real Mexican, and worth the trip. La Paloma must've been voted #1 epic fail!
The "Friendly's" of Mexican!!!
Went on a Wednesday night ( dinner time) .Not very busy which should have been a clue.I'll start with the positive.Good Margaritas (asked for Hornito's Tequila) Bar was cute. That's about all the good I have.
Booths and overall feel was of a "Friendly's" or similar. It was a old Domino's and still looks like one.The salsa was gross.Chips were stale.
Ordered the "combo" taco, enchilada, burrito.Taco was tasteless. Shell was  stale . The shredded beef burrito was some kind of bizarre sweet and I mean sweet ( think maple syrup sweet) watery mess.Gross! I had verde sauce witch was also sweet and weird.
The enchilada was plain cheese. Hard to mess up cheese in a tortilla. The rice was like a tomato mexican rice and pretty sure I had  it out of a box from Lipton before.Nasty!
Refried beans were not terrible but unremarkable.I asked for some sour cream and was informed there is an extra charge. What?
Our service was awful. The waitress disappered for  long  periods of time and a table was seated across from us while we were there and got there food before us? She was a mess, had dirt under her nails (lets hope) and that just freaked me out. We actually had to get up at the end because we waited so long for our check. No apology that we had to go looking for her.I used to live in Quicy and go to the La Paloma there .I can't even belive it's the same owners.
From atmosphere to service to food .Not even close.Don't waste your time or money!!!
One of the worst food experiences I have had in a long time. Im learning that there are very few good places to eat in and around Duxbury..and this is not one of them. When I asked the waitress what cut of meat the steak fajitas were, she resounded "probable whatever they got  the best deal on". Unfortunately, she was right. It was cheap flat iron, cooked as poorly as it could have been. There salsa verde was sweet?! Awful. Awful. Awful.
Review Source:Not thrilled with the place. Â I probably won't go back.
Gotta be honest...I judge a mexican restaurant by its guacamole. Â The guac here tasted like it was made from a powdered mix.
OK....any of you "chefs" out there listening?
The best guac I've ever had was made table-side... in Georgia of all places. Â The woman had two avocados, sliced and scooped them into a lava bowl, added freshly chopped onion, tomato, cilantro and a squish of lime and mashed it all together. Â Chunks of avocado wonderfulness left in there. Â THAT's guacamole. Â The goo they served at La Paloma was tasteless...and for the PRICE!?!?!? Â I damn well expect the real thing...and lots of it. Â
The tortilla chips were greasy and I also prefer my salsa to be more substance, less liquid. Â The flavor was good though.
As far as the entrees went, they were tasty. Â I ate all of mine and enjoyed it. Â Rice was so-so. Â My honey didn't care for his too much, but he's a spoiled Texas kid who's actually eaten IN Mexico on a regular basis.
My favorite place to eat Mexican has, sadly, gone away. Â Carmen's in Abington was THE BEST. Â From the guac to the fried ice cream and everything in between. (sigh)...I do miss you so. Â Especially when I have only places like this to compare.
They are... okay. The building is an old Pizza Hut so there are some design limitations.
The food was alright, a little on the greasy side and as others have said, the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. I had a chicken enchilada and it tasted like chicken paste with grease and cheese.
I was there with a large group and the waitress was awful. Simply awful. I cannot remember the last time I had that bad of a waitress. It took her almost 45 minutes to figure out how to split a check.
I've not been to their other location but it looks to have way better reviews. It's a bit out of my way but I'm a fan of good food so maybe I'll give that one a shot.
went for dinner during the weekday, promptly seated and greeted. margarita was good. then the food....that is all it was was food....I am not a fast food eater but if I wanted just food I would have visited a drive thru and spent 1/4 of what it cost for my husband and I to eat that night.
As mentioned in another persons post regarding the salsa...we should have just left after tasting the salsa.
Husband had the fajitas...no taste...no spice...we requested if they had any hot peppers they could put in the dish before ordering -didn't have it...they did have what seemed to be a pickled pepper in the dish coming from a jar. server said she had HOT SAUCE in a bottle-not what he was looking for-not HOT. I had the chicken, ribs and shrimp... left alot to be desired.
Although I do understand not all customers like spice...but the quality/taste of the food was lacking.
The interior of the restaurant was comfortable and appeared clean.
Would come in a distant 2nd to hospital food. Â In fact, it makes Hospital food seem like "Gourmet" in comparison.
The food was "Mexican" in name only. Â The service was decent, but the food was worse than horrible. Â We couldn't get out of the place fast enough.
The "Salsa" was stewed tomatoes with maybe a little taco sauce and some shredded carrots. Â Get used to Shredded carrots, it's used on every plate. Â I don't know what part of Mexico this tradition comes from.
We ordered a side of guacamole which was bland, shiny green paste. Â It was hard to imagine an avocado having anything to do with this end product. Â However it was nice that they did not put shredded carrots on it.
I had a shredded meat burrito, which was not a burrito at all, but a mystery meat quesadilla with cheap bbq sauce and cheaper cheese. Â There was NO hint of cumin or any other spice in the meat. Â The cheese was awful. Â It had that waxy/chemical taste with no real cheese flavor whatsoever. Â The refried beans and rice on the side was average. Â It was decorated with a generous portion of shredded carrots.
My wife had the steak fajitas, which was a small portion flavorless chunks of meat quickly stir fried with peppers and onions accompanied by refried beans and rice on the side, decorated, once again, with the shredded carrots.
We ordered taco plates for the kids. Â Bland meat with that flavorless cheese, garnished with the ever-popular shredded carrots again. Â They love tacos, but refused to even taste these. Â We pleaded with them for 15 minutes to just taste them. Â After all, how bad could they be? Â So I tasted one to show them. Â The cheap waxy cheese somehow overpowered the bland, soupy meat.
We were really happy that the restaurant offered fruit instead of fries with the tacos. Â Unfortunately the fruit was the kind from a large can, fruit cup a la "Wedding 1974". Â Overly sugared, soupy and with very little fruit taste.
On a positive note, the tortilla chips were decent, we had two helpings, and nobody got really sick.
The price wasn't bad. Â $36 without tip. Â But I still felt ripped off.
Do yourself a big favor and buy some Old El Paso products at the supermarket or even go for some of the 10% beef tacos from Taco Bell. Â Or just stay home and have a bologna sandwich, which is where you will probably end up anyway. Â I did.
I really liked the food at La Paloma. Believe it or not, but I've had a hard time finding local Mexican restaurants that have mole sauce and this place had it AND it was good. My only real "con" is that they are trying to cram too many tables in and it was definitely over crowded and loud. We'll go back soon though!
Review Source:I have to agree with Alyss S. We too were excited to hear that La Paloma was coming to Kingston. We haven't been to the Quincy location in some years but it was one of our favorites at that time. But, we too were saddened by the quality of the food. It reminded us of a Taco Bell with tablecloths...not a favorable comparison to either establishment.
My recommendation is to go to the original or go to Mama Mia's down the street (not Mexican but very good!).
Ay, caramba...After anticipating the new location of La Paloma, my boyfriend and I dined there a month after its grand opening in Kingston.  Sadly, we were very disappointed and shocked at the poor quality of the food.  After waiting 15 minutes for a table for two on a weekend night, we began with the Aperitivo Combinado, which included two jalapeño poppers, two chicken quesadillas, chili con queso, guacamole and sour cream.  All the components to this combination platter seemed to derive from frozen packages of Tex-Mex imitations.  For my entree, I ordered the Pescado Tacos and my date ordered an enchilada special.  My salmon tacos were overly cooked, and his enchiladas were sub-par. Â
Our service was mediocre, and the crowd was so rambunctious and loud...I understand that this restaurant invites large parties and crazy personalities, but I think the whole experience was too much to handle. Â Safe to say, I won't be returning.
This was one of the worst lunches that I have every had. If this is cuisine for a specific region of Mexico please let me know what region so I never visit it. I lived in Phoenix and Los Angeles for 18+ years and have had lots of variations on Mexican food and I have never had anything remotely like La Paloma. Everything that we tried was sweet!?! The "salsa" was stewed tomatoes with onions and shredded carrots in it. What?!? After tasting the "salsa" (I should have followed my instincts at this point, paid for our drinks and left, but alas) and reading the menu I grew afraid. My wife and I both decided on fajitas (not traditional Mexican but how bad can you screw up fajitas? We found out and how! The fajitas were sweet. How on earth do you make sweet fajitas? Actually, why would you make sweet fajitas? I know there is not a lot of choice for Mexican food in the South Shore but please save yourself the heartache (stomachache) and go up the street to Cancun.
Review Source:I went today with my teenage brother (he is basically a food vacuum and was really hungry) and neither of us were interested in eating more than two bites of our food.
Felt like I was on like Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare eating at this place...my $10 chicken and cheese flautas were very obviously slopped out of a big old bucket in the back and nuked in the microwave, and my flautas looked more like sad enchiladas floating in crusty refried (and refried and refried and refried) beans and dry tomato paste rice than crunchy flautas. My brothers enchilada was soggy and watery, and he had the same crusty microwave shell covering the refried beans that I did. Could have done better at a middle school cafeteria.
First time I've ever felt comfortable returning my food for a non hair-in-the-food/bug related experience.
It's a shame, Â because the place is totally beautiful, has nice murals on the walls, looks really clean and well taken care of, and my server was really attentive, but that is NOT edible food, period. I hope the get a new chef and re-examine their menu, because I would hate to see another restaurant in this location go out of business.
Horrid, horrid, horrid is the only way I can explain this restaurant. My bf had a chcken enchillada and the chicken looked and tasted like a ball of boiled paste. I had tacos that were filled with watery beef colored watery slop.
We brought it to the attention of our server, and the manager came over and spoke to us and spent the next 10 minutes telling us that he has been in business for 25 years and has never had a complaint....ummm...I'm highly doubting that.
He did ask what we expected it to taste like...."did you want it more barbecue?". Â Why would we want Mexican to taste like barbeque.
Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone....
