What a find! We drove past it once before we realized that it's inside the nondescript Mexican grocery store with the white-green-red awning, across the street from La Fiesta.
It's totally simple, with five four-tops and half a dozen counter seats sitting at the back of the grocery store. The food is cooked up right behind the counter and it was, in a word, AMAZING!
Holy Molé, Batman! This is the real thing! At the suggestion of the extremely kind and helpful waiter, we had gorditas, made fresh, with various beef and pork fillings. With their classic onion and cilantro accompaniment, they were *superb*. Our son gobbled up his chicken quesadilla with gusto.
Chips and salsa at the table were joined by three squeeze bottles of additional delicious hot sauces, so no lack of choice there. All were outstanding. They sell the salsa from the chips & salsa plate in the grocery store in front, so you can take some home, too! Â You could also find about 30 additional hot sauces up at the counter, in case you have a favorite.
Ice water was complimentary, with drinks all bottled from self-serve coolers - lots of excellent Mexican import choices there (can you say mango soda?).
Menu choices are up on a white board, and the staff is happy to help you sort it all out. I have to underscore that the staff were all wonderfully kind and helpful.
For the amazing authentic meal they provided, it was not at all pricey. The three of us ate ourselves full for less than $20.
If you are in or near Hart, you really owe it to yourself to stop in for a meal. It was Delicious!!!
This obscure Mexican grocery store is directly across from La Fiesta and, what it lacks restaurant ambience, it more than makes up for in food quality and value. We fed 5 people for $35 (including tip) and every one of us raved about our selections. The tacos are make simply: double soft corn tortillas with meat, chopped onion and cilantro; the sauces run from 2 alarm to 5 alarm, so choose according to your heat tolerance. The guacamole was outstanding and the chips fresh and lighter than most. My father-in-law's tostada was excellent. The point of this place is that their primary clientele is the hispanic community that comprises the bulk of the migrant labor pool in the area, so the food is authentic and priced to be affordable. The seating area is in the back and the trip is well worth your time!
Review Source:A hidden gem. It's kind of like stepping into Mexico. This has been our favorite place to eat out for quite a while. It's our regular stop when we're in Hart. The food is fantastic. Everyone we've taken there has been impressed and they have yet to disappoint. The setting is a little rustic but that's part of the ambiance. I think I'll have to find an excuse to go there again today.
