i tried this place plenty of times and never really liked anything that i got here. i would keep hearing people talk about how good the cheesesteaks were and then i would try it and be severely let down. but every so often i would come back and give it another chance, and finally, i ordered the touchdown burger. still your standard mushroom and bacon cheeseburger but it's the best thing i've had here and it's pretty good. upgrade your fries to garlic fries for 50 cents, i believe. if you replace your fries with a side salad, it's a $1 extra... something the cashier failed to mention to me until after i paid
Review Source:I have to say I was terribly disappointed at this place.....after our food was ordered and made, it sat at the kitchen window for more than 10 minutes. We even saw our server walk buy our dinner more than once and not bring it over. Finally my boyfriend went up to the counter and asked the server when we were supposed to get our food, only then did she finally bring it over and sure enough everything was stone cold. When we complained to her about the cold food she blamed the kitchen saying that they were backed up. It wasn't the kitchens fault. All of our food was ready and sitting at the counter waiting to be served. Service is terrible here and the food is barely mediocre.
Review Source:Whenever my family is in SLO, we eat at Laguna Grill. The Texas Titan and beer battered fries are amazing. When I eat here, my diet goes out the door. Recently I had their tri-tip sandwhich and that was also good. We are not big sports fans but we don't mind all the football games and cheering because the food is so good.
Review Source:I love love love the Texas Titan with a veggie patty! Â Add some seasoned fries and a beer, very satisfied. Â Sundays the football crowd is huge so very hard to get a table, sometimes impossible. Â Whether or not there's table service varies on the day, or maybe the staff. Â If in the area, def worth a try
Review Source:first i want to make myself clear - this place markets itself as a sports bar, and yes - there are sports on television... but that's all they have in common with real sports bars, i will now explain why.
Food: rather bland and uninteresting, is that really the best cheesesteak sandwich you're capable of making?? there are these incredible thing called "spices" that tend to lend flavor to food.
Beer: unimaginative and uninteresting, i mean come on - if all you serve is beer you should really get some better stuff in there.
TVs: too few and too small, there's a ton of wall space in there - how about a projection TV? SPORTS BAR FAIL
wifi: what wifi? oh that's right - i can't check how my fantasy team is doing on my laptop while watching football on sundays. SPORTS BAR FAIL.
Bar design: downright stupid - the entrance point and drink pickup spot are both on the front face of the bar that face the TVs.... instead of on the side where every bar that wasn't designed by a blind moron puts them. MASSIVE SPORTS BAR FAIL.
service: it was great, the servers are cheerful and on top of things - they're the only reason this place didn't get a one star rating from me.
Sports bars also have memorabilia on the walls... which i did not notice at this place. overall this place is pathetic, and the only reason it's in business is because nobody in this town has bothered to open a real sports bar.
I usually really enjoy the pulled pork sandwich here, and the place is great if you want to watch a game that's on TV. However, the service can be lacking and inattentive, even though the owner is very friendly. It could be an issue of understaffing. I would recommend this place as an every once in a while restaurant.
Review Source:This is my favorite burger joint in SLO. Â They make their ranch fresh in house and its fantastic. Â The burger are large, fresh and well priced. Â Its great to have several options for fries as well. Â One of the main reasons I go is to watch the game and try whatever new microbrews they have on tap or get whatever the $10 pitcher special is for the night. Â This is a good place to be a regular at as the crowd is pretty consistent week to week and the waiters and waitresses while sometime might take awhile they are always very friendly.
Review Source:My husband and I were there to dine this past Friday evening with a group of friends and family. Â One of our group lives in the area and has been going to this place often - in smaller and larger groups.
To put it mildly: Â THE SERVICE SUCKS! Â We sat at a bar table in extremely uncomfortable barstools. Â It took about 5 minutes before anyone even offered menus. Â As more members of our group arrived we pushed more tables together and sat - waiting. Â Still to server...no water... no menus... nothing. Â Finally (after about 25 minutes of waiting - THIRSTY - one of our group caught the attention of one of the staff who were flitting to and fro not really doing anything, and we were finally informed that we would have to order at the counter then pick up our orders ourselves...BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO CONFUSE OUR ORDERS! Â Excuse me, but has everyone of these COLLEGE KIDS forgotten how to write? Â Maybe if they entered it into their cell phones as a TEXT they'd get it right?!? Â So, by the time it was my husband's turn to order for us, the cashier/server was ON THE PHONE and nobody bothered to man another register. Â By the time I got a plastic cup we'd been inside the establishment for almost 40 MINUTES! Â We did note that there were other large parties that got served at the tables! Â So why not us?!? Â We concluded they didn't like us.
NOTE TO ALL FOOD SERVERS - WHETHER YOU'RE IN COLLEGE OR WHATEVER: Â IT'S NOT YOUR JOB TO LIKE OR DISLIKE THE CUSTOMERS. Â IT IS YOUR JOB TO SERVE THEM TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY - ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE ONLY AN EMPLOYEE!!!!!
Yes, I'm extremely upset about the lack of professional courtesy extended to us as customers. Â No, we were not rude in any way. Â We never are as we recognize that the servers/waiters have to earn a living, too.
I had ordered the B.A.L.T. sandwich. Â Aside from the bread which was dry. the avocado was fresh and ripe, the bacon crunchy etc. Â The bread wasn't quite toased... more like it was just left out to air-dry. Â The fries were soggy and greasy. Â My husband had a steak sandwich and proclaimed it REALLY GOOD.
WE are not from the area and didn't see a sign ANYWHERE informing patrons that they needed to order their food at the counter. Â And the family member who DOES live there has always been served no matter the size of her group. Â Needless to say that we will never go back and most certainly didn't leave a tip. - which marks the first time in 3 1/2 years that we didn't tip the wait staff when dining out.
Fun atmosphere! Their food is alright. Their wraps are a little dry for me, and I always have to ask for more dressing. Their BLT is pretty good, and my boyfriend really likes their cheesesteak sandwiches. Great place to go to watch a game, they have many flat screens all around and a big projector on the back wall. It gets packed during playoffs of any sport. Fun if you are there for the game, but if you want to go for dinner or lunch while a game is on good luck finding a table!
Review Source:We come here all the time. The sandwiches are excellent and the service is great. I usually split a sandwich and they usually put it on two plates. Needless to say, the portions are generous. And they are Very accommodating.
Also, great place to go if you are into sports as the multiple monitors are playing everything that is on.
Came here with a few friends for a belated birthday dinner (7) about a month ago; apologies for the tardiness..
They have high ceilings with sports memorabilia covering all the walls. I saw a sf giants sign :) I ordered the mushroom swiss burger (not sure if it was exactly called this since i had it so long ago.. but it's the burger with mushrooms in it), and it was delicious! campus has this too, but LG's does it well =)
Friends also ordered the jalapeno bottle caps.. those were amazing!
I've eaten here several times and never had a bad meal. The burgers I've had have been fresh with tasty, juicy beef and fixins'. Recently I have been hung up on their BBQ chicken salad, which is immense and tasty. Could use a bit more chicken and BBQ sauce, but the ranch dressing is very good and the fresh veggies in the salad are really FRESH.
They now offer table service and menus, which helps a lot if you don't love standing in line and staring at the huge wall-mounted menu. My only real complaint is that it's a sports bar (duh), and if an exciting game is on, the place can get pretty loud. Which is no complaint if you are a big sports fan.
Probably great for kids, the decor is pretty indestructible and the noise level means your kids won't bother anyone who isn't already being assaulted by the TV volume.
Very casual atmosphere, reasonable prices for the quantity and quality of food. Give it a try!
We ordered through http://MenuClub.com last night and got the Texas Burger and the Homerun burger with Beer battered Fries and Sweet Potatoe Fries.
The burgers were just okay.. Frozen thin patty's not very juicy at all. Sub-par to Firestone. Bacon on the texas burger was over cooked and small 1 inch pieces, meh.
The fries were tasty, I would order both types of fries again w/ ranch sauce to dip.
Burgers are a bit over priced imo, I remember them being cheaper. Stick with the cheapest cheese burger and its not a bad deal. Total was about $23 after two burgers and two fries. I'll be going to Firestone next time for our burger fix.
Also, my wife got a pretty bad stomach ache about an hour after eating the Homerun burger. Laguna gets a MEH from me.
Go to Firestones, better quality everything. Cheers.
Definitely a knock off of the famous Firestone. Everyone who says Laguna's tri tip sandwich is a good alternative to Firestone is LYING TO YOU. Although the tri tip is good, they skimp on it which Firestone does NOT. Happy hour blows at this place as well. The turkey sandwich was pretty tasty. I like the selection of fries, too. However, it's over priced. Go stand in line at Firestone (usually worth the 10 min wait). Better everything there.
Review Source:I've been here a couple of times and it's been a wide range of service. Sometimes I'll be amazingly satisfied with the service, and other times It'll be a long... long.... long wait.
It's a sports bar setting, there are a lot of tv's and such all around the place. If you ask nicely, they'll change a TV to show whatever sporting event you are interested in... maybe. they have sports decor around the place, but that being said - it's a pretty nice looking place. I think they have a patio (I haven't been out there) and the place is pretty spacey all things considered.
I've had chili Fries, beer battered fries, garlic fries, and a couple different burgers. The Touchdown, MVB, and the Ultimate burger. Overall I would say the food is pretty good. It's worth recommending to anyone wanting to go. The Ultimate burger was quite a large burger and very tasty. The specialty fries are pretty good, though one time I ordered the garlic fries and got pretty much regular fries. The Beer battered fries are tasty... but they wear on you as you eat them.
If you're hungry and want a decent burger, it's a nice place to go.
Geared for the college crowd. Â The dining area is surrounded by tv with one big screen all showing sports. Â There's a bar area and a counter for orders and pick-up. Â You can be waited on. Â
I ordered chili cheese dog with onions and a cheesesteak sandwich with fries and Laguna chips (potato chips). Â Although they claimed the hot dog was all beef it didn't taste like it. Â It seemed like a mix of beef and whatever meat. Â Cheesesteadk sandwich was ok. Â The worst foods were the fries and the chips. Â I don't know if it's their oil or potatoes but I'd rather have In and Out fries than theirs and as for the chips... probably the worst chips I'd ever had.
Laguna grill, way to disappoint me. Â During the World Series, I thought you and I had become friends. Â You gave me decently priced, pretty good bbq and pub food (obviously not the best, this is SLO), and a fun atmosphere to watch games in.
Then I tried to call in for pick up last night. Â Not only did you obviously take your phone off the hook so I couldn't call in for pick up, but then you didn't take my coupon that didn't have an expiration date.
Then to add insult to injury, your usually good BBQ chicken salad, with plenty of black beans, corn, and toppings, was mostly a giant pile of cabbage (what the heck?) and lettuce.
So Laguna grill, until the World Series is back and I actually care about the teams playing in it, we're through.
My husband and I were searching for a yummy burger joint in SLO. I'm glad we ended up here as the ambiance was quite pleasant. The warm host was very helpful with beer selection - I chose the flying dog. We opted for a basket of onion rings for starters. I then ordered the MVB (most valuable burger) with beer battered fries and my husband ordered the Texan Titan (like the Western Bacon Chz Burger from CJs) , but much much better! The meat was very tasty, great ranch, buns were toasty and buttery.
This will be our new burger joint after hiking Montana de Oro!!
It's ok. Â Kind of price for the food you get. Â Sweet potato fries were good. Â Sandwiches were ok - nothing special. Â
Great wait staff ~ though every time I've ben here they seem understaffed. Â The food comes out in a reasonable time but the wait staff is often times running to keep up. Â Surprisingly good attitudes.
Good place to meet friends - watch a game - and have average burgers.
My husband and I finally decided to give Laguna Grill a try a couple weeks ago. Our visit gets 2 stars because I can only say it was "sorta OK", not "A-OK."
The services was OK. The ambiance is definitely that of a sports bar, but not obnoxiously loud. And they had a real football (known to Americans as "soccer") game going on a couple of the small screens.
The white ale and sweet potato fries get 4 stars.
The burgers, 2.5. Nothing to get too excited about.
$29 pre-tip for burgers, sweet po fries, fried zucchini strips (which also get 4 stars), and the beer.
Not on our favorites list, but I can see us coming here every once in awhile.
THIS PLACE IS NOT GOOD!! it is costly in more ways than one. Â It is not that good. Â it is expensive and for people like my friend James who will like it b/c of the OLD restaurants food. Â I do not like this place. Â I understand why some people may think 1 star is a little harsh but lets be honest. Â If you get something they just slap it on. Â Burgers are frozen and beer battered fries are the only reason they should get 1 1/2 stars..
PITCHERS ARE OVERPRICED, anyone who wrote about the pitchers does not care about cost even during happy hour. might as well go to the shack
Been here a couple times, but mainly because I live close and don't want to go all the way downtown for a burger.
The burgers aren't the most amazing but they're not bad either. It's worth not driving to Firestone's on a busy night and having to wait in line forever. However, their fries are pretty awesome. I'd come back just for the fries. The beer battered ones and the garlic fries are my favorite. I haven't tried their salads yet, but I've heard good things as well.
The people who work there are super friendly and service is pretty quick, even when they're busy. Prices are pretty decent and the place itself is clean and has a classy (as classy as sports bars can get) atmosphere.
I absolutely love Laguna Grill. Â I loved it back when it was BBQ & Brew, and was basically a liquor store with a deep frier, and I STILL love it now that its new and improved.
If you go and you Don't get the beer battered fries with a side of their ranch, you're missing out on a seriously good thing.
The burgers are so good that I've never branched off into the sandwiches or salads, so I can't discredit any of the cranky reviews below mine about that, but I will say that the burgers are near perfect. Â
It is frequently busy. Â If you manage to show up when no one is around, you can pretty much guarantee they're recovering from just having been busy. Â Best recommended when you've got some time to hang out, drink a beer, and generally be relaxed. Â If i AM in a hurry, I call in in advance and that always works like a charm.
Laguna Grill, 5 stars. Â Freakin awesome.
I love this place, their burger is decent and you can choose your favorite fries which is nice. I also had their chicken sandwich which was huge and yummy. I like to hang out with friends here after work, without going to downtown is a plus.
Try this place and you will know what I meant.
We were passing through town and had lunch at this place. It deserves one more star for the atmosphere: Typical sports bar and plenty of TVs with a variety of programming. The staff is friendly and service is prompt. However the sandwiches weren't really up to par. The ingredients didn't seem very fresh or something. My husband and and another person who ate with us got stomach aches from the pulled pork and my turkey club was just "eh." The processed fried things were good though!
The Laguna Grill is great for watching games and drinking beer. I wouldn't recommend eating here though. Never though I'd say this, but if you must, go for anything deep fried...
The only reason I didn't give Laguna Grill 5 stars is because it is a near copy of Firestone Grill in downtown SLO, and Firestone is still king in this town in terms of sports bars.
My co-workers and I refer to Laguna Grill as "Firestone West".
That being said, the food is pretty good. The beer-battered and sweet potato fries are excellent. Â The Caesar Salad with tri-tip I had today was epic. Â It's definitely worth a visit.
This was one of my new favorites that we had just found before taking off for the summer. Â This place is awesome; The reasons are three-fold:
One: SPORTS bar. Â There are scads of TVs, enough to go around, so they'll put on whatever game you like. Â No one big game dominating the place such that you can't come here and see what you were hoping for.
Two: Tasty food. Â Fries in all forms, garlic, beer-battered, normal-type, etc. Â Too, when you get your food, it's exactly what you expect. Â no frills, just simple yeah-that's-what-I-wanted action. Â They give you a decent amount, just enough food to leave room for a beer or four. Â That comes into play too when you get your bill; the prices are great.
Three: Â Not a crappy college sports bar joint. Â A sports bar like The Shack on Foothill may be great, but it is tiny and nasty and crowded and loud and there are drunkies everywhere. This place's location lends itself to being less belligerent, and more...Easy, for lack of a better word. Â It's comfortable, big and open, and you can hear yourself think, even on a big game night. Â Ahh.
