Bad news! Lassen Steak House serves rotten food. Good news. They will offer you a free desert. Went for son's birthday, worst food we've had ever! Showed up at 7:20 for a 7:30 reservation, yes we had reservations, were told they had a big party and it would be at least an hour wait... Â 45 minutes of drinking warm beer in dirty glasses we were sat for dinner. 20 minutes later we had water and menus...10-15 minutes later they figured out we had no server...Ordered a couple of steaks and some prime rib.. Dinner shows up & 2 baked potatoes were rotted, I have pictures. Both steaks were overcooked, tuff and flavorless and the prime rib had an awful lot of gristle while remaining flavorless as well. The French fries were ok although frozen... Lets just say we passed on the free desert (would have preferred a fresh baked potato) and went home thoroughly dissatisfied.
Review Source:We stopped by about 5pm, we were going to order a burger or?..decided on a glass of wine for myself and a beer for my friend.  We ordered the "jumbo wings"" , they weren't  jumbo and tasted like old over cooked wings (chicken jerkey) with a good sauce trying to  hide how old or over cooked they were.  The deep fried portabella mushroom had uncooked batter on the inside, it would have been better to lose the batter and let the mushroom stand on its own. I would recommend this place for happy hour, maybe some chips and I don't know about anyone else but I don't like seeing the bartender/waitress more interested in her I-phone then the customers.  This place has potential, I always wondered about it when it was closed for years.  My review is ment to be constructive.  Good luck to you.
Review Source:My better half, her friend from work, and me went there for dinner Sunday We were NOT aware of the rebel flag incident. I am sorry we (inadvertently) supported that  kind of hatred, ignorance, and bigotry. We will NOT be returning there....EVER.  Sadly Yelp makes you give a minimum of a one star rating in order to leave a review. For my money this is one star too many.
Review Source:The day after our country pulls together and re-elects our African-American president, the ignorant owner of The Lassen Steak House decides to proudly fly the confederate flag in front of his restaurant. Are you F-In kidding me? If I had to review the food, I would say it tastes like HATE. You have lost my business along with my respect. Please call them and tell them how you feel! 530.-839-2838.
Review Source:We went for dinner on Sat Sept 1, 2012 the food was GREAT !! I had a T- Bone Steak and my husban had the Ribeye, the onion rings the BEST we ate in the wine which was nice the waitstaff where helpful we had a good time will be back again. oh you need to serve ZIN WINE'S GREAT WITH RED MEAT, NEED MORE WINE CHOICE'S. OTHER WISE GOOD FOOD THANKS
Review Source:The food is VERY expensive and the service is VERY bad!! I took my wife there for dinner on her birthday; it was a Sunday afternoon. We decided to order two burgers to go as we are local. The bar tender left us on our own for awhile and finally returned to take our orders (we were the only two people at the bar). We ordered our food and we each ordered a beer. The bar tender left again and never returned until our food was ready. During this twenty minutes or so, we would have liked to order another drink, but it was not possible because there was no bar tender!!
Their burgers are not worth $12.00 in my opinion, but I would happily pay the price if the service is good, but it is NOT!! They have no control over a person's particular taste, but they do have control over their service and they choose to ignore customers! I take such horrible service as an insult and I will spend my $50.00 (two burgers and two beers) somewhere where they actually care about their customers.
The food was fantasic. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was delicious! Tender, meaty (no surprise chunks of fat) pieces of pork served with warm bbq sauce. The onion rings were hand made and great! My hubby ordered a Volcano Burger- he was a big fan! He didn't expect the jalapeno to be baked into the bun- it was a delicious surprise! The waitstaff was very friendly, efficient and kept up with our drinks (no waiting for refills!). We will definitly be back!
Review Source:I was visiting friends in the area and we passed it on 99 and decided to give it a shot, Â The food was mediocre, the appetizer nachos were not home made but Homel Chili, I tried on a camping trip once amd it tasted and looked the same. Â The food was a expensive for what they gave us, service was mediocre as well. Â Steaks run in $29 range, burger $12, fish and backed potato $16 The food and service at BJs, Marie Callenders, CheeseCake factory is much cheaper and the service better.
Review Source:Six of us went in for a nice dinner. The place looks pretty nice from the outside but... First, we were seated at a dirty table, then the waitress forgot to bring our salads and bread. We did finally get the salad with dinner, but never the bread. We all ordered the prime rib special. Varying orders of doneness. When the dinner came, it was very rare. (In fact refrigerator temp in the center). For all of us. Even the ones ordered Medium Well! Â When we questioned our waitress, she uncomfortably told us that is the way the cook sends it out and it's no use sending the food back. Hmmmm. Well the small potato and squash was at least an appetizer for our dinner which we made when we all got home. Didn't even bother to take the meat home. I don't think even our dogs would have touched it. Also, it would have been nice if the bar tender had known how to make a mai tai. So, instead I got iced tea which was old and sour. The place was full and it was hard to distract a waitress. Most of the gals were too busy either leaning against the wall chatting or sitting at the customers tables gabbing. Wow. hopefully for this place they figure it out. It has potential, just need a staff and a cook! Table ticket: $208.00. Tip we left: $2.00. And this only because we left even money on the table.
Review Source:I met some friends here on Labor Day for an early dinner. We arrived at 4 PM and were the only people in the place, aside from our terrific bartender who also served our food, which was OK. By 5 PM there were about 6 tables,s disappeared without a word to us and a different waitress was on the floor, and she was noticeably angry that there were customers. She never even looked at us, and we sat with finished plates on the table for 45 minutes as she waited on other tables all around us. I finally went to the bar and asked the man behind it what happened to our waitress. He said, "She wasn't your waitress, she was your bartender and she's gone home." I asked him who might have our check and he pointed to the angry waitress. She finally slammed our check down. We made sure the woman who actually served us got the tip. I would return for the food, I suppose, but the service needs help. The woman who served us should have told us she was leaving and that someone else would be taking over our table, AND the angry waitress should have told us she would be helping us from then on. Very dissatisfying.
UPDATE - We gave this place another try and it was terrific. Best burger in a long time and the service was PERFECT! We'll be back!
My wife and I stopped in about 8:30 for some steaks. I had a sirloin and she had the filet mignon. Both were cooked perfectly with good seasoning. Service was fast and friendly. We often spend the night in Corning when traveling between Oregon and Southern California and will go back.
Review Source:Worst food ever. Normally that would be enough said, but I feel I should explain.
Never should a pulled pork sandwich be served to a person tasting as if the pork was boiled for 24 hours, and as a wet sopping flavorless mess. Inedible.
The "kids" food consisted of thick noodles served covered in NACHO cheese. Sprinkled with some dried herb. Again inedible. Do yourself a favor and travel the five or so minutes to the Red Bluff McDonalds. I did and my family thanked me for it.
I will never know if the steaks are good, if you can't serve a lunch worth charging for, stay closed until dinner time. Hmmmm Jacks Anyone?
I have been there about 5 times since they re-opened. Hamburgers are awesome, steaks better and the onion rings are the best around. They usually have live music. Now the bad. The service is well slow. I have seen paint dry faster. Tonight We were there it took 45 minutes to get our food. The only reason we keep going back is because the food is that good. Just don't be in a hurry if you go there. I would have no problem giving the Steak House 4 1/2 or 5 if the service was faster.
Review Source:I was very hesitant about going here, since it was closed for a while, and in the middle of nowhere. Â But, my DH's company Christmas party was here, so we went.
It was packed, and we had a group of 20.  Service was slow at first, which was understandable with a packed house and large group so soon after re-opening.  They were,  however, very friendly and tried their best. We didn't mind and  once things got going service got very attentive.
The appetizers where classic sports bar food, nothing to write home about.. Â Nachos with chili where good. Â Calamari was crispy, but not my favorite, although it had a delicious Asian-inspired sauce. Cheese sticks were average, and chicken wings were very tasty , they had a nice heat. Â The salad was fresh and decent. Â
They steaks came and were excellent.  They were cooked perfectly, seemed to be aged properly, and one of the best we have had in the Chico area.  I had the fried prawns on the waitresses recommendation and they were AMAZING.  Really huge, they reminded me of small lobsters, with a good light batter.  Also, the baked potatoes were really stellar, as the skins had  olive oil and sea salt on them.  Every one at our table was very happy with the food and the drinks.  Judging how loud the other side of our group was, I would say the drinks were good too.
If they keep the quality at this level they should do really well. Â I am definitely coming back. Â The memory of those delicious fried prawns will prompt me to return.
This is for a friend who went there last week on a double date wedding aniversery. Â Her experience sounded horrific! Â From being the only patrons in there and having food brought out intermittently at a snails pace. Â At one point they mentioned about hurrying up the soup, and the waitress vicously snapped back at them in a very offensive way. Â
Now if this was me, I would of walked out right then and there! Â
Oh yes, the service was so bad, my friend did not leave a tip! Â
You certainly wont find me going there!
