Great atmosphere, great food!
Started with a delicious beet salad with butter lettuce, very good. Also had the roasted marrow, soooo good. Couldn't get enough of it.
Gnocchi was one of the best, if not THE best I've ever tasted. My fiancé pretty much licked the bowl clean it was so good.
I had the pork belly, not bad at all, maybe had better, but it really was quite delicious. I think I would try something else on the menu next time, there are so many good options.
Also have a fairly good wine list with many options and price points.
Will definitely return.
Great menu to please everyone. We started with the fig pizza. Super thin, crispy crust, excellent. Also had the fried chicken & waffle tapas. It was ok - waffle was soggy. Â We then both had the hanger steak frites - excellent. Great value, cocktails and wine list. We look forward to going back! Â Best place
Review Source:On a recent trip to Whitefish, we had a lot of mediocre or passable food. Â This place met our big-city fine dining standards. Â Fantastic cocktails. Friendly, prompt, and attentive service. Â Fantastic yummy food presented well. Â As a vegetarian, non-meat dishes in Montana were scarce and the waitress was quick to warn me away from dishes with meat stock or other lurking hazards, and even had the chef make me up a custom vegetarian pasta option that was perfect. Â It was a fantastic break from the salad or grilled cheese sandwich that were my standards during the trip.
Review Source:Nice decor, service and menu.
The pasta was awesome. Â The creme brulee was recommended and it was fabulous!
I often dine on my own and this is the one of the very rare restaurants and servers that welcome a single diner. Â The server also waited on me without a prejudice, didn't rush me and also didn't make me wait for any service.
Will definitely return with a bigger party!
My [now] wife and I, along with our immediate family and a couple of friends, traveled to Montana to have the destination wedding of our dreams on the shores of Lake McDonald. On the nights leading up to the wedding we stayed in Whitefish. We had wanted to find the perfect spot to have our rehearsal dinner and Latitude 48 looked to be it after reviewing the menu, wine list, and reviews here on TA. My mother coordinated the booking for our party of 11 via email with the general manager. His last email message to her on 8/15/12 was:
"We will have no problem accommodating your rehearsal dinner on Monday, 3rd of September @ 7:00, for eleven people. Â We do not need any other information. Â Looking forward to meeting you in person and taking care of the dinner.
Cheers,
Raymond D.
General Manager"
With our reservation secure we went about finalizing the rest of our plans. We spent the day of the 3rd taking a wonderful red bus tour in Glacier and then eagerly headed into town for dinner. However, rather than being greeted by Raymond, or anyone for the matter, we were greeted with locked doors and a sign posted saying that they decided to give the staff the day off after a busy season (see attached pic). My mother went into a panic, sure that she had booked the wrong day by mistake. We checked her email from Raymond and the mistake was not ours.
Are you kidding me? This was not some regular reservation for two that could have gotten lost in the shuffle. This was a party of 11, for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and it was confirmed directly with the general manager! We had people flying in from Maine, New Hampshire, Texas, and even Scotland for this!!!
I have worked in the hotel industry now for 14 years and in an area that sees far more tourist traffic than Whitefish. I know all too well what it is like to reach the end of the season and want a break. That is the nature of the business though. If you are not prepared to deal with that, you should not be in the industry.
We were originally going to get food elsewhere, but eventually came here due to the wood-fired pizza advertised on their menu out front. We came around 5:45 on a Saturday, and didn't have a reservation, but they were able to seat us right away.
After starting with a delicious and well balanced raspberry-jalepeno mojito (daily special), we were introduced to the highlight of the evening - the Cripsy Chips with blue cheese dressing and gorgonzola. OH MY WOW. This was complete decadance, deep fried to perfection and covered with melty cheese.
Once we finished the chips and were Half way to a cheese coma, we had a salad, which was good, but didn't knock our socks off. Â
We finished with a Fungo (mushroom) pizza, which I think could have used more truffle flavour, but overall was good, and we had no problem finishing it off.
We were seated straight away which is always a plus. Â We had a calamari starter. Â I do not normally eat fried food, but love Calamari if cooked correctly. Â It can be like leather. Â In this case it was cooked to perfection, not in the least "chewy". Â It came with 2 sauces, a tomato type and a curried one which was my favorite. Â I had a roasted beet salad which was very nice. Â My companions had pasta and a burger. Â The one with the burger thought it was pretty good although the fries were nothing special. Â The pasta guy said he found it quite nice, but had tasted better. Â But he is an Italian so he understands pasta pretty well. Â I think this restaurant is definitely worth a second visit. although would prefer a different waitress. Â She was a little "over the top"
Review Source:Environment was great, but food was not the same. I ordered the top "homemade" pasta dish as recommended by the waiter and it was not very good and definitely not homemade. Â We went there to try their pizzas, but the fire department had to put out a fire in the pizza oven about 10 minutes before we got there so we couldn't try it. Â
Maybe next time? Not sure, we made better food at home every other night, the only good part was we didn't have to do dishes!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Whitefish. The food is great, the staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. The butternut squash/granny smith apple pizza is incredible (don't share this as you'll want to eat the whole thing!)
Recommend you sit at the bar and have fun with Travis and Noah. Great people, great place and yummy food.
This is based on one visit, during Feb of 2011. Â
Before going we viewed the online menu of this restaurant and were quite excited as everything sounded delicious. Â We made reservations and were seated promptly. Â The decor is cozy, but the brick walls cause a lot of noise to reverberate. Â Most of the noise was other conversations, there was also music in the background, but the level of noise didn't bother us.
I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and was thrilled. Â The cakes were not breaded and the crab was bound with very little filler, mostly crab. Â They were accompanied by a garlic puree, with possibly a potato base mixed in, and an underlying "zap" of some kind, not sure what. Â The appetizer was so good I was eager to taste the other items I ordered.
My husband had ordered the marrow bones and loved them, but they should have been accompanied by both moist towelettes (you have to grab them to eat them) and a better (smaller) spoon to get at the marrow. Â The spoon he was given was larger than the cavity he needed to get into and he ended up using the shaft end of the spoon. Â Needless to say, although they were delicious, he needed a shower when he was done.
I had ordered a spinach salad, which was good and a bit unusual with dried cherries in it. Â They were not evenly distributed throughout the salad, but that's okay. Â It didn't wow me, but it was a good salad.
NOW, MOVING ONTO THE ENTREES. Â I had ordered the pricey rib-eye at $29, the highest priced item on the menu. Â When it arrived, it was far smaller than I am used to receiving because they had only delivered the actual EYE of the rib-eye cut and not the surrounding bit (lifter) of meat that is standard locally when ordering a rib eye. Â Additionally, the "steak knife" that was delivered was not sufficient to cut this without an issue. Â Oddly, the standard knife that was there when we arrived was able to do it, no problem. Â The flavor was no different than a steak I might have at home, the cut was on the thin side AND it was quite undercooked. Â I should have complained, I guess, but the lighting over our particular table was such that I could not get a good look at it. Â I had ordered a medium, but it was much closer to rare based on the texture. Â I wasn't sure of it, like I said, until my husband had a piece as I decided I really couldn't quite finish the last little bit and immediately looked at it himself and declared it quite rare. Â The sauce with the steak was said to be a parsnip puree, but it tasted mostly like potato. Â There was a "sauce au poivre" on the menu, but I didn't see anything like that on the steak...unless it was the sauce I'm calling the parsnip puree.... Â In any case, there were three things listed as coming with the steak and only two were on the plate. Â Given the price of the item, I would have expected more flavorful meat, the full cut, the right cooking level, etc. Â I've certainly had much better steak elsewhere locally.
As for my husband's dinner, he requested the Braised Rabbit Carbonara and was informed that although they had the Carbonara part of the dish, they had no more rabbit to include with it. Â He ordered it anyway, got a smallish dish of Carbonara, which he said was good, but.... Â we were charged the full price for the dish in spite of the fact it was lacking the key ingredient AND the portion was on the smaller side. Â We're talking about basically noodles here for $16...
My husband also ordered the Organic Porter. Â Darker beers should be served cool, not cold. Â It was delivered in a FROSTED GLASS. Â A fine dining restaurant should know better. Â
As to the service, the waiter was overloaded OR there were issues in the kitchen, I don't know the cause. Â All I can say is, there were LONG waits in between courses and the initial delivery of my husband's beer and the bread for the table were long in coming. Â I even commented that maybe I should have eaten before coming.
All in all, a disappointing outing. Â I am sure they are capable of better and we've heard good reports of the place, but I doubt we'll be back there anytime soon even though we are locals.
I have eaten there two times and tonight will be my last. We arrived at 8:30pm and they were able to seat us right away with out a reservation which was nice. We sat there for quite a while before we received any service whatsoever. It took a very long time to get our drinks but that was still a bit understandable. What the night came down to was the food. IT WAS AWFUL! I had one of the pasta dishes with chicken and it tasted like Campbell's Soup for One. My father ordered the spare ribs and the were seriously nothing but FAT! He could find nothing edible on his plate. He pushed it aside, and asked for a check right away. When it comes down to it there are MUCH MUCH better places to eat in Whitefish than this.
