We stopped in on the recommendation of a family member who knew we would be passing through this area..
We ordered the chili. It was wonderful. Hot in temperature and some spice to it. We ordered the Deputy Dog with jalapeño and cheddar. The dog had a nice flavor and the chili over the top was great. We ordered a couple of cheeseburgers. These were not pre-preformed patties. They were thick and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. Everything was hot and fresh. We had our children with us and they enjoyed it, as well.
If we travel this way again, we will definitely stop again!
Lawdog's is a friendly and convenient stop when traveling to or from Helena. Other than the strict "no politics, and no religion" policy, which I appreciate, it is an unremarkable restaurant/bar. The food is unremarkable as well, with unpleasantly grainy "custom made" sausages and bland, watery chili. Food-wise, the only thing Lawdog's has going for it is GIANT portion sizes, but who really wants to eat a giant plate of mediocre food?
Review Source:Not too much horribly wrong I can say about this place. Â It's a dive bar/ restaurant. Â Stopped in a few times to grab a drink with my friend who lives in Helena.
They have the best Bloody Mary that I've ever had. Â This isn't saying a ton, since I don't like Bloody Mary's...but they are spicy which I enjoy. Â The bartender (owner) takes his time while making them and puts some love into them. Â If you like Bloody Mary's, I'm willing to bet you will enjoy this one.
Will I come back? Â Yes! Â I have to since they have an eating challenge called the Double Lawdog and the Double Bigfoot Challenge. Â The Double Lawdog is a 2lb hot dog covered in 4 cups of chili (with fries). Â The Double Bigfoot is a 2lb cheeseburger with 6 strips of bacon, 4 slices of cheese and fries.
If you can eat either of those in under an hour...you get a picture on the wall and a T-shirt. Â
Think Man vs. Food.
I'm going for it. Â I'll report back when I do.
