I finally got around to going to the Brandon location of Lee Roy Selmon's. I love the one off boy scout. This location is a bit smaller than the New Tampa and Boy Scout locations but it was formally a pizza place.
Lets start with the decor...it is well decorated for the size with a Lee Roy Selmon/Sports theme. It is very tasteful. There is also a neat fireplace that takes up the whole front wall. There is a really nice outdoor seating area as well.
Moving on to the food, Â my sweet heat chicken was over cooked but still tasted fine. My sister said the same thing as her twisted chicken--not as good as she thought it would be. We also had the twisted tea-- it was so good, a bit sweet but I loved it.
The service was very attentive, there were lots of servers standing around with nothing to do but our server gave us the full attention. For 7:30 on a Saturday night it wasn't too busy but that means we got seated immediately!
So, yes I will go back and I would recommend it.
I like Lee Roy Selmons. Â I don't LOVE Lee Roy Selmons. Â For the Outback chain, I do feel that the other restaurants have a leg up on Lee Roy's. Â That being said, their food is typically good and the service quick. Â I think the whole thing for me is the "upscale bar e que" idea. Â When I want bar b que, I am typically not in the mood for a nice sit down experience. Â That being said, if you are - this is a good place to grab some tasty food.
Review Source:An OK meal. Â Worth visiting again.
The GOOD - The lemonade was just right. Â Not much else that I could say I loved in this visit.
The SO-SO - The Selmon Brothers' wings and boneless "wings". Â The SB wings are smoked and have a great smokey flavor with a nice sauce that has a kick. Â The boneless are standard buffalo flavor. Â Pretty good food for a snack or to enjoy during a game. Â The SB wings were a bit on the small side though. The Sweet Heat Chicken and Chicken & Waffles were decent too. Â I like the sweet dry rub on the chicken in both dishes. Â It was my first time having Chicken & Waffles. Â Wasn't bad.
The BAD - nothing really.
We went on a Monday night around 6:30. The hostess greeted us and took us to our table. Â We waited about 8 minutes and never got any service. When we got up to leave, the manager and a server both told us "Thanks for coming. Have a wonderful night!" We were first time customers and will not go back.
Review Source:This is the best run Lee Roy Selmons in Tampa. Â It is crowded, and the menu is bar style food, but it is well prepared and run. Â If you go in and sit down, yea you'll wait, even if you get there earlyish for dinner.
I try different things, but my Wife and Daughter love the Chicken and waffles. Â I love the appetizers, Selmons wings, and Fried Green Tomatoes.
I want to live here! For serious! We arrived just as they opened, were promptly seated and our server came by within a minute or two to take our drink order.
She came back and apologized because their batch of dry ice hadn't come in yet, but that my drink didn't have to have it if I'd rather not wait. Okay, but next time I expect glitter and friggin' explosions, people!
So, apparently they just got chicken and waffles on their menu. Oh-tay! Boyfriend ordered that and I ordered the always appealing meatloaf.
Now, if you're a meatloaf connoisseur like myself, you know meatloaf can be pretty awesome or the slop your mama tried to pass off as edible when you were a kid.
I wanted to grind up and snort this awesomeness that was placed before me. It is two huge slabs of flavorful meatloaf that has been sliced and placed on a grill. A GRILL! This is brilliant and delicious!
Okay, okay. *inhale... exhale* So, the chicken and waffles verdict:
So the waffles are fluffy with a hint of crunch and the cinnamon pecan butter to slather over that glorious golden fluff monster smells and tastes like warm pecan praline ice cream... THAT YOU PUT ON YOUR WAFFLES!
The chicken is well seasoned with corn doing a happy little jig over the top.
So, two entrees, an appetizer, and two big kid drinks = Â $50.

My first time here and it was with a group of about 15 for an after hours social. Â They were quite accommodating as far as letting us rearrange tables and kind of taking over their outdoor area. Â We didn't have full dinners, but most of us ordered appetizers, drinks or salads etc. Â The food was above expectation. Â I sampled the nachos which are the best nachos I've had in many years. Â The sweet potato fries were top notch and the salad was fresh and served as described. Â
My main issue was service. Â It took forever to get drinks. Â FOREVER! One person in our party asked about her drink 3 times, when it still didn't come she had to go inside to the bar to get a drink. Â The other thing is that they left our dishes on the table until we left. Â It was clear that we had finished our meals, plates were empty and pushed aside and yet they still didn't take them away. Â I probably would have had more to eat and drink there had the service been better. Â
I will probably go back to see how it is for a real meal, but right now I'm skeptical.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. My husband has been to the one in Sarasota and raved about it. I was excited to try it out. We went on a weeknight and had no wait at all. I really loved the feel and atmosphere of this restaurant. Sports decor and flat screens all over. We had our two young boys with us. They were very kid friendly. All of the food was delicious. The prices were very reasonable. The server was a little slow but she was trying her best. My favorite part was the hot towels she brought out after our meal. We will definitely be back!
Review Source:I have heard all about Lee Roy Selmons since I lived in New Tampa near another location that opened years ago. Knowing that I loved Lee Roy, I was excited to try it out when they opened one right in our neighborhood in Brandon.
I went with a co-worker on dinner break and was pretty excited to check things out. When we got there, we sat down..and no one came...others were sat around us and wait staff came right to them. We had to flag someone down to see if we could get a drink order taken and especially since we were on a time crunch on lunch break - keep in mind that the place wasn't busy either.
Looking at the menu, I wasn't really impressed. The food options aren't much - typical burgers, wings, some seafood, rib, steak, and chicken dishes along with sandwiches - nothing really stood out. I then saw "shrimp and grits" which is a favorite of mine. When the waitress came to take our order I asked her about that (since it was $10.99 I wasn't sure how big it'd be etc) She said "eh, it's ok, it's just a bowl of grits with shrimp on it." Really? Ok..so I asked her what her favorite dish was..."I don't really have one"....awkward silence. So, I decided on the wings (since it was listed as a 'favorite') and my co-worker ordered the mac n'cheese with short rib meat.
The food: good. Both of our dishes were good. The wings were done chargrilled style which I like, but again nothing stood out with a "wow" factor.
The service: Eh. The manager came by to check on each table and when we told her about the wait she did send over dessert - so that was really the only plus - it was peach cobbler and it was fabulous & free ;)
Overall: I probably won't be back. I am usually one to try smaller restaurants with unique fare and I could get a burger or wings anywhere else that taste just about the same.
Waited forever for my favorite place to open in Brandon. Sorry to report that the food was overcooked, the portions got smaller, and too many waiters were standing around chatting with each other while my drink glass sat empty. I know they can do alot better because i used to go to the original on Boy Scout location and it rocks. Hope they get the kinks ironed out soon. I will be back again...
Review Source:All last season I looked for the best spot to catch a Patriots game. Â Some places had good food. Some places had good TVs. Â Nobody had both.
Problem solved with this new location of Lee Roy Selmon's. Â I'd never been to a LRS before and this was a great first visit.
Plenty of giant screens showing every game - no old, low resolution TVs. Â Food was excellent. Great wings. Burger was awesome. Â Fries were good. Â Servers were right on top of it. Â The patio is nice too, fans keep you cool and you can have a beer watching the game on outdoor patio furniture.
Great spot to watch a game. Will be back often.
