I have been here a couple times before and loved the place. Unfortunately, I wasn't pleased last night. The pork belly was drowning in sauce and wasn't the best piece of pork belly I've ever had. The filet mignon was very boring...especially the bland potatos they were served on. In addition, I don't think our waiter smiled one time. It was still a decent meal and experience. I was just sad that I didn't get the wow factor that Leila's usually brings.

My favorite restaurent. One of the waiters has a really awesome accent, which really makes you feel like you're in another world, full of delicious food. The food is awesome (Especially the cheese plate!!!!) and I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Pretty bomb place.

Poached Egg appetizer...oh yea, Braised Beef fills my stomach with deliciousness, wine list is great and service is above 5 star. My wife and I enjoy Leila's whenever we need a great adults night out.

Drove 40 miles to try Leila's tonight. I would have driven 100 miles for the scallops with corn, bacon and spicy jelly. Get that and the poached egg from the small plate menu. Anything after that is just gravy. I had the pork loin which was tender and delicious, but no match for the scallops. One of the best dishes I've ever eaten. I'll be back!

Fantastic place. Owner was super nice and recommended fantastic wine choices. Salt rock shrimp and beet salad and salmon all winners. The Chairman of Iron Chef was sitting next to us and frequents the restaurant often if that tells you anything!

So glad we found this place! Great menu with lots of healthy and tasty options. IMHO everything is priced appropriately for the quality and creativity you are getting. Nice wine list and great vibe inside. Hard to believe some of the great places found in strip malls. It's kind of off the beaten path..so the place was nice and quiet for a romantic unpretentious meal. We will go back!!

Enjoyed our celebratory meal, wonderful fresh mix of flavors, wine was just ok. Do not miss the heirloom tomato stack, absolutely beautiful. Dessert selection was scrumptious.

My favorite restaurant in the area! Every dish surprises you with its excellence and attention to FLAVOR. I think the sauces and use of herbs are their strong point. This chef is terrific. I can't wait to try everything on the menu, eventually. Expensive but worth it!

The only downside is minor: they should upgrade the outside of the facility (it's in a shopping center). It's very off-putting because you can't readily find the door and the place looks like it closed down or something. Don't give up. It's not closed, find your way in and you won't be disappointed!

Delicious Lobster tempura, poached egg was cooked to perfection. My friend and I loved the food so much, instead of sharing, we ordered one for each of us.

Make sure to make reservations on weekends. The bar waitress we had, Trieste, has terrific service and was always checking on us despite tending the bar and other guests. If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely make a trip here again.

Fantastic Valentine dinner at Leila's. The scallops were to die for! Loved the Wild Mushroom Risotto. As always, Leila's delivered great food, service and ambiance. Thank you, it was all scrumptious! Brought our favorite bottle of wine with and paid the corkage.

I came here with my business partner. This is a place we both had yet to try and I've seen great reviews. It always got passed over as the location is just a little off the main stream. Also, based on the pictures, we feared that the place may be a little too romantic for two dudes. Luckily, we stuck with our plans and I believe we've uncovered another option to our other favorites like Padris, Farfalla and Mastro's. Parking is not a problem at all as it's located in a strip mall. The outside is a little unassuming of the little paradise that is situated behind the doors. there are two fairly small seating areas, we opted for the side with the bar as there was a little more noise (energy). From the first hello until we closed the place, our service was just perfect. They have an interesting wine list. I drink a lot of wine and I was not familiar with several of the bottles that they carried. We went a little on the cheaper side and selected a Grenache (with no regrets). It smelled too fruity, but once it hit the tounge, the tannins took control and the aftertaste remained strong and full bodied. To start I ordered the beet salad. I can barely remember what my friend had as an appetizer (I think that it was something with Ahi and I at least know that he liked it) as for some strange reason, I like beets = alot. Let's just say, if I only had the beet salad and the wine, this would have easily been a 5 star rating. I will probably go back for this next time I crave a light meal. The beets were amazing - they were bright yellow and so full of flavor. To balance the salad and the strong taste of beets, they had the perfect amount of mixed greens and a phenominal supporting cast of feta cheese, pomegranite and roasted (seasoned) hazlenuts. The symphony of flavor that this combination created was to die for. We moved on to entrees. My friend had the rack of veal. He said it was good, but I didn't sense that it blew him away. I ordered the Halibut (based on what I read in reviews). The fish was cooked perfectly and had just a the right amount of sear. The meal would have been perfect if it was served with asperagus and garlic spinach with a light drizzle of sauce. Instead of simple, they seemed to try too hard. It was like every vegetable that noah could fit on his ark came to visit this dish. I couldn't even name half the vegetables. I love vegetables, but with all the different flavors, combined with a rather rich sauce, the fish was lost. I love halibut, but this one was just not strong enough to stand out. I was really let down because I don't get the chance to eat fish as often as i would like. we finished off the meal with a dessert wine, which did the trick. There's not question as to whether I will be back. Next time I will bring a date as the ambiance is perfect. There aren't many spots in the area where you would like to spend the entire night out. I think that this can be one of them.

My hubby and I have been looking for a place that we could call our own special hang out. We have finally found it and it close by. We have enjoyed drinks, full dinners. We love it. It is romantic. The food is great. The wine is outstanding. The down side is that it is a bit pricey. But well worth the special indulgence. We have been there so many times I can not count them all. We keep going back. We are never disappointed. It is always fresh and surprising.

The menu is always changing, and I love that they always keep it fresh and new. The service has never been less than perfect, and I'd say I've been there over a hundred times. What amazes me is the consistency in the quality of food...meaning you can order their Braised Beef (my personal favorite) and it's just as good the 50th time as it was the very first time! Worth the pricing 100%

Amazing food. We tried 3 appetizers - all excellent.
I had the heirloom tomato salad. Excellent.
I had the pan roasted chicken for dinner - excellent.
The lamb tagine looked great.
We did not have room for desert - but can't wait to go back.
Service was excellent. Friendly but not too intrusive.

Can't wait to go back.

My niece, a friend and myself were in search of a great wine experience. Another "Foodie" friend raved about Leila's. Upon entering, 3 employees were present but treated us as if we were intruders. When asked if we could just go to the bar and have tapas the young man in his un-ironed short sleeved shirt motioned us to the bar. There were 3 people at the bar but the place was empty. We finally sat down on the couches in the bar. No one bothered to get us water or take drink orders. There were only 3 people sitting at the bar and the entire restaurant was empty! After 5 minutes we left and no one bothered to even look at us as we exited. What ever happened to service? Never go back.

Great restaurant off the main path. We've been there with my parents and a vegetarian and everybody was very happy.

The restaurant is somewhat hidden in a small mall, but that also provides for ample parking. Inside the restaurant is divided in several smaller areas, all of which looked very comfortable.

Service was very friendly and prompt. The menu is rather limited, but very good. There is a decent wine list as well.

What a lovely oasis tucked away in West Oaks! It's always tough to find these hidden gems, so you better believe I am gonna spread the word. Leila's is in a small mini mall, next to a fitness center, so if you get spun around by Google maps - have no fear it is there.

I booked a large party of 15 folks there for a team dinner and was very pleased with the level of service, quality of food, and ambiance! The restaurant quickly responded and was prompt with securing our spot, love the customer service. Now onto the goods -

Starters: We pulled rounds of nearly all their apps to start the night, and for the most part, a lot of them were pretty delicious. The tuna tartar was very fresh and nicely plated. The pork belly is a definite must..a bit tougher than I usually have it, but it went well with sauces. The pouched egg was not bad either.

Main dishes: Our groups slit a majority of the dishes to try and taste a wide variety. We ordered the following - filet mignon (average), swordfish (really good!), wild mushroom risotto (a must for truffle lovers), wild salmon (excellent), and the braised beef noodle dish (hearty serving). I'd say we all agreed the risotto was just amazing, flowing with flavors!

Dessert: The wonder bar! Just a crazy good overload of caramel, peanuts, and ice cream ;P It was almost like a snickers bar, without the chocolate covering. Really yum!

This is a nice and comfortable place for an evening out. The ingredients were obviously very fresh, and food was well-prepared. I had a very generous portion of ahi tuna, but it definitely could have used a little more seasoning. The service was pretty good and parking was easy. . I'm glad we went, but I'm not positive I would return.

The food here is great. Theres no doubt in my mind that the chef doesn't mess around. I would give this restaurant 5 stars if it 1) had better service 2) the decor was better.
Service: it wasn't bad... just didn't feel very welcoming. Considering how pricey this place is...I feel like they should be a bit better at ass-kissing.
Decor: the interior architecture is lame. I think I'm being a bit too critical, but in my mind- if you're going to charge $25+ a plate you should shell out more $$$ for the interior decor. This place is decorated like a $12 bar and grille. It just doesn't match, making the food feel over-priced.

Appetizer:
Scallops ($17) : if you must order an appetizer. This is it!! I think these are the best scallops I've ever had. These are phenomenal but pricey.
Crispy poached egg ($14): this was okay. It was a light salad with a poached egg..that was kind of crispy. Good to try since I love poached eggs, but I think I'll pass next time.

Entrees:
Lamb: great!! The lamb was quite good, well cooked and tender. Came with cous cous and grilled zucchini.
Halibut: THIS was the winning entree of the night. The sauces it came with was amazing. Everything about this dish was perfect. I highly recommend it.
Summer salad: cauliflower, carrots, raises, and kale. This was a hearty salad. It was kind of too crunchy and a bit too salty for me. Good, but I'll pass next time too.

Dessert:
Bread pudding $8: dear Lord this is delicious. You can't walk away from this restaurant without ordering this dessert. The price isn't too killer either. I'm not even a huge fan of bread pudding, but man, this was amazing.
Cobbler $8: in any other circumstance, this would be great, but in comparison to the bread pudding-the peach cobbler was just kind of casted into the shadow. Still good though.

Five stars for the beet salad. Beats, arugula (i think), blue cheese, and pomegranate seeds. Really, really good. It was by far the best salad ever. It was actually refreshing. I had the filet mignon as an entree. I asked for medium and it was served medium rare. But I think the chef was trying to help me out because it was perfect. Very juicy and savory. It was served on top of mashed potatoes, spinach and potatoes. Nothing too exciting there. I had the apple cobbler for dessert. I've had better. I know it was made fresh but it could've easily compared to a store-bought freezer cobbler.

I have been eating at Leila's"s for years. The thing about restaurants that are exceptional is that they are pretty much slammed on most nights! I have witnessed many nights when the dedicated staff are running like crazy! I am patient, because I am happy that this amazing food is being created in my neighborhood!!
I have seen many restaurants come and go, and I am sure that I could get into many without a reservation, but I don't settle for the ordinary. I will give Leila's the respect it deserves and make my reservation happily.
Thank you Leila's for being my hometown place , I have enjoyed and celebrated many special occasions . I have always felt welcome. The food is a creative fusion of fresh delicious ,savory ingredients.

For you diners who have not yet tried, call ahead and you will not be sorry!

So I have been going to Leila's for a long time. Have not been there for a year or so-the reason: I got kind of burned out on the same menu...the only downside I ever saw. But now it's changed and they menu is more seasonal, though favorites remain.

The takeaway? As always, Leila's remains the benchmark for fine dining in suburbia.
A great wine list, and a very friendly wine policy, brings winos from all over to pop their corks( $20 corkage) and enjoy the food and service(always good).

What's more, it's a friendly, casual atmosphere-I usually love sitting in the bar area to eat as you meet lots of great people.

Personal menu favs:

Apps: pan roasted artichoke hearts, ahi tuna tartare, diver scallops, beet salad

Entrees: six hour braised beef, alaskan halibut, carribean spiced fried chicken

So what are you waiting for? Yes, it's worth the drive from WLA , so GIDDY UP.

Parking - huge lot, very easy.

Service - 1) didn't make a reservation, but the server was nice and gave us the bar seats 2) she gave us very good recommendations 3) I told her I am catching a show at the Fred Kavil, so the food came out pretty quickly.

Food - We only ordered from the tapas menu. Everything were simply amazing!

Scallop - tender, although it was lacking the sweetness of seafood but the sauce was so delicious it sorta made up for it.

Spicy Tuna - good combination with the seaweed salad on the bottom, tobiko on top, pita chip, and tasty sauce.

Short Rib - crispy outside, tender inside, moist mash potato on the bottom with pesto sauce, absolutely tasty!

Crispy Poached Egg - Server's recommendation.. Must try. The outside of the egg was crispy, the yolk was runny (very well made), a bed of green and diced tomato on the bottom with tasty sauce, crunchy prosciutto, and thinly sliced parmesan. Heaven!

Definitely a return. Next time I come to Thousand Oak for a show, this is the first on the list!

Pricing - Better than reasonable

Been going here for over ten years. There again last night and loved the 'small plates' now added to the menu.
Wine list is great, cheese selection is amazing (talk to Joseph the fromager, he will build you a great cheese platter to start the evening).
We had a mix of salads, small plates and entrees. Everything is prepared perfectly, and the food bursts with flavors.
Not a big restaurant, so make reservations. There is a bar area where you can order food with casual seating.

The restaurant is cute, tucked away in a strip mall. The food was delicious! Our items tasted fresh, and made with care.
We ordered: Spicy Ahi Tartare, Lobster Tempura, Grilled Asparagus, Heirloom Tomato Stack [MY FAVE], Avocado Parmesan Crispini, and the Sauteed Alaskan Halibut .
Definitely recommend it, if you are in the mood for yummy, quality food!

IN 10 WORDS OR LESS: "WINING AND DINING THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE"

A diverse wine list and a delicious menu is always a winning combo.

My fiancee and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Leila's on the recommendation of a few friends and some strong reviews on Yelp. We were more than happy with our choice to dine at Leila's and our only regret is that we hadn't gone here sooner.

We got in a little later in the evening, but were happy to see that the service was still welcoming and friendly at a time when service at most other restaurants tends to drop off and make for a disappointing experience.

The dining room isn't huge, but it fits right in with the cozy ambience along with the walls lined with wine racks and the appropriately dimmed lights and visible kitchen. The first thing that really stood out to me was the wine list. Although it's not as long as some other lists I've seen, the selection of what they do have is fantastic. They even had a bottle from our favorite winery, Peju, which is hard to come by. As soon as we saw that, we knew we were in for a good dinner...even though we brought our own bottle of Peju.

The food menu consists of mainly of American/Californian cuisine, but I'd rate them on the higher end of quality and deliciousness. We started with a plate of the chantrelle mushrooms over a polenta cream sauce with parmesan cheese which was absolutely fabulous. The mushrooms had a bit of a seared crunch to them on the outside and the polenta cream sauce was a great compliment. We also had the spicy tuna tartare which was good too, although at times seemed overly spicy for my own personal taste, but was still very good.

For dinner I had the six hour braised beef which I would describe as gourmet comfort food. The beef was delicious and melted in your mouth. My fiancee had their salmon dish which was cooked perfectly.

Dessert stole the show though. The Chocolate Bread Pudding is to die for, and I'm not even much of a bread pudding fan. It was moist, not overly sweet, and was served with a great raspberry sauce.

Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for and the food won't leave you disappointed.

Nestled in the corner of a strip mall in the quiet town of Oak Park, lies a "neighborhood gem". Leila's is unique for this area, where "corporate restaurants" are prevalent. When you walk into Leila's you feel like you might be in LA. The dining room is relaxed and casual, decorated in bold contemporary colors, unfinished wood furniture and plush velvet sofas. A dark wood bar also runs along one side of the restaurant. If you'd like to witness the chefs in action, you can sit at the butcher block table located next to the kitchen. It's nice enough for special occasions and casual enough for a Tuesday night dinner.

Service here is generally pleasant but can be brusque. The cuisine can best be described as new American/Californian with international influences. Chef Richard DeMane hails from Santa Monica mainstay Michael's as well as the ever-popular Campanile on La Brea. He has mastered the art of flavor layering at Leila's. The menu is eclectic and has something for everyone. We sampled the lobster tempura, pan seared scallops, Field Greens Salad, Duck Confit, Six-Hour Braised Beef, and Chicken Breast. Dessert was the Wonder Bar and Apple Cranberry Cobbler. Each dish burst with flavors experienced at different moments with each bite. It is a very special dining experience. The "soup of the moment" is often very good. I have never been disappointed the many times I have dined here.

Leila's is great place to escape from the norm and to celebrate a special occasion.

For this area it's a 4 out of 5 but really it misses every once in a while. Strong wine list and generally good food and acceptable service. Not unforgettable though. Like other reviewers I wanted to love it but it came up short more than once.

Across the way I find Rustico very strong in a sea of Italian restaurants but still there are so many Italian restaurants. Can't Leila's find a way to stand out from the crowd?

We''re rooting for you but can't afford to be let down again.

Let me begin by saying I really, really wanted and expected to love Leila's. On paper, it is exactly the kind of restaurant my wife and I love - imaginative menu with a nice mix of small plates and entrees that sound delicious. It has the potential feel of a European bistro/new American eatery that we really enjoy. Unfortunately, I left a bit let down.

I don't know if it was our server that bothered me - she did a poor job of giving us (or any of her tables) her full attention because she was trying to service too many tables at once. While she only had 4-5 tables, she wanted to give everyone her full attention all the time and failed to make anyone feel like she was truly attentive to them.

On to the food. We ordered two small dishes (the pork belly and the mushrooms), a salad (poached asparagus salad), a side of fries (sounds odd, but a teenager next to us had a bowl of fries on his table and they looked great) and the six hour braised beef.

Note - the small dishes are not small by any means. They would be a big portion at a tapas restaurant.

The pork belly was delicious. It came with a spicy Korean-style sauce and black garlic. This dish would deserve 5 stars.

The wild mushrooms were good for the first couple bites, but the dish was more of a polenta dish topped with mushrooms and the polenta was incredibly rich, to the point of hurting me a bit by the end of the meal. We ordered because our server said they were the best small plate (along with the pork) and they were out of the other small plate we had wanted. If this plate was a significantly smaller portion, I may have enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

The salad was extremely disappointing. The poached white asparagus came on a plate with prosciutto arugula and parmesaean. It sounded delicious. It was flavorless. Truly, truly bland.

Finally, we had the six hour braised beef. We ordered this because of all the Yelp reviews raving about it. It was also a cold, rainy night and we wanted something heartier than fish (which read well on the menu). The braised beef comes in a bowl of pasta - it is essentially pasta with meat sauce. We ordered the dish knowing this because that's how the menu described it, but we went with it anyway thinking it would be rich, flavorful meat. It was not. Amazingly, this dish was completely bland. All of it. The beef had no flavor. The pasta was just pasta. The tomato-based sauced had no flavor. So, so disappointing.

Lastly, I want to comment on the bread. I would expect a restaurant like this to make their own bread or, if what they servved was homemade, at least serve it warm. The bread they served was a sliced baguette (I think sourdough). It was cold. It was stale. If it wasn't store bought, I'd be surprised. The bread could have been saved with 2 minutes in the oven before serving.

Great hidden gem!
Leila's is fantastic. We've been going for years and have never been disappointed. The ambiance is warm and comfortable, the service is excellent and the food is reliably superb. The famous 6 hour braised beef is just soooo good it's hard not to get it every time you visit, but the other entrees are never less than excellent. The appetizers are creative and fun and the wine list is great.
This is clearly one of the best restaurants in the area, and well worth the trip.

This place never disappoints and I'm constantly amazed by the attentive service and wines they offer. Last night I ordered take out and asked the bartender for a recommendation on a bold cab to sip as I had a few minutes until my order was ready to take home. I had never heard of this particular cabernet but it blew my socks off!

The braised beef and salmon are must tries.

The entrees we ordered were mediocre. The appetizer was good.. I'll give you that.

The service....let me just start off by saying that this was by far the worst experience I've ever had at an upscale restaurant. Our server was extremely condescending and dismissive towards us. I guess his level of service depends on what he presumes is the social economic status of his customers. I read the reviews below and it seems that most people had a completely different experience than me so I can only assume that this is the reason. The worst part is that this was on the actual day of my 23rd birthday. We told him this and he simply said "we don't do birthdays here" in an extremely unapologetic tone. Moreover, he didn't even bother to wish me a "happy birthday". This is definitely a birthday I won't soon forget.

My husband and I had a fabulous dinner here for my birthday. The restaurant is quite small and although the tables are fairly close together, it doesn't feel cramped or that you are overhearing your neighbor's too much.

We had the cheese plate and asked our server to pair wines for us and I really was impressed with our server and when he wasn't sure which wine would go best, he made sure to ask someone else in the restaurant with more wine knowledge.

The cheese plate was great. I especially loved the cheese that had a wonderful truffle flavor. Then we had the Crispy Soft Poached Egg which was delicious. A great combination of textures and flavors. I definitely would order the cheese plate and egg appetizer again.

For our entrees I had the Miso Salmon and my husband had their Fried Chicken. The portions were much bigger than I expected for a high end restaurant, so we over-ordered and really could have shared an entree or just ordered cheese, an appetizer and dessert. My salmon was delcious. My husband's fried chicken was good but a bit to hearty and heavy to really eat too much. It was boneless and white meat, so it's quite a bit different than typical Southern Fried Chicken. It was served with a small portion of grits.

The food here is awesome. I can't wait to go back for cheese, apps, dessert and wine.

We came here for some appetizers and drinks and loved it! I'm always complaining about the lack of good restaurants in the Valley, but I will not be a complaining anymore.

We weren't super hungry so we decided to share a bunch of appetizers and really enjoyed all of them, we ordered -
Crispy Poached Egg,
Pan Roasted Wild Mushrooms,
Harissa Spiced Lamb Meatballs
and
the Heirloom Tomato Stack

This restaurant has a very "Rustic Canyon" vibe...fine dining but laid back with a focus on seasonal ingredients. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned. The pan roasted wild mushrooms on a bed of polenta wasn't as good as the fried polenta at Rustic but was really still very delicious. I loved all our dishes and couldn't really decide what would be my favorite. I definitely want to go back and try all the other dishes and perhaps some of the mains.

Service...nothing to complain about. Everyone was attentive and great.

Thanks Leilas for a great dining experience!

Lucky me. I just got back from a business dinner here and I can still taste my meal. So now I can reflect upon how good it was while my wine buzz goes away. We were on the right side of the restaurant where there was a long bar and small tables, paintings on the wall and dim lighting. It would have been very romantic if I was there with my wife.

I started out with a great Italian Merlot. This place is known for it's great wines and I was told that it was started by some guys from Napa. For an appetizer I had a spicy shrimp kabob that was more spicy than I expected but not too spicy that I had to drink more wine. I drank more anyways. It wasn't my tab. The shrimp was great and was served on a bed of shredded carrots and chopped peanuts with some delectable sauces.

Then for the main course I had a 6 hr slow cooked beef that was cooked in more wine and served on top of curly-que pasta. What do you call those? Cellentani ( I just found a site that has all the pastas identified for you - http://www.archimedes-la…).
The dish was really rich and made me want to curl up under the table and fall asleep. I liked it a lot and managed to stay awake for dessert.

To follow up the meal I had the molten chocolate cake. Some people say chocolate is so ho hum these days and not very difficult. I like to use it as a litmus test to judge a restaurant. The chocolate inside was still warm, but it wasn't very chocolaty while the cake was good and the sauce was nice.

The service was impeccable. I was never lacking wine and didn't have to wait long between servings. They also offered me something to drink as soon as I sat down. So I would give it a high rating and would like to come again sometime to see if they can get my penultimate five stars. If you can afford it, and like good wine, then give it a try.
