You know when you find your benchmark upon which you judge other things. Â For Mexican, Lira's has been the one place that most other restaurants fall short of in my standards. Â I grew up in Torrington and only came to this place once in blue moon, but whenever I did it was exciting! Â I couldn't wait to get a hot plate of their delicious enchiladas. Â I occasionally ordered their tacos and burritos, but their enchiladas were caliente amor! Â
As I've grown up and been to a hundred different Mexican restaurants, I could never forget those delicious meals and the sort of sinful satisfaction it gave me as I cleaned my plate. Â I've come to understand that their style of Mexican may not be considered "authentic" Mexican, maybe more like Tex-Mex; however, style guidelines may not always matter when it comes to just getting something deliciously made.
I remember times when it would be busy and you might have to wait for a table, which sometimes (depending on how hungry we were) we would go find someplace else. Â What else can someone say when a family owned Restaurant like this is too busy? Â They have a good thing going and I don't see that changing anytime real soon.
If you like Mexican food and you're driving through Lingle... keep driving!
I recently moved to the panhandle area and, knowing there is no decent Mexican food between Scottsbluff and Torrington, I trusted Yelpers' reviews and drove twenty miles to Lingle to try this place. Womp womp.
I would compare Lira's to some of the lower-end chain Mexican food restaurants, but honestly I've had better food in some of those joints. Lira's menu is very limited. Selections consist of tacos, enchiladas and burritos made with ground beef and an assortment of ground beef-filled nonsense "smothered" in an unspecified sauce. Â
I jumped in head first and tried the combination plate, which included a tostada, enchilada, taco and beans. The beans were exceptional; it was clear that they employ copious amounts of lard, which I'm certain will have me running to the toilet in short order. Regrettably, that is where Lira's peaked. Their overuse of flavorless ground beef highlighted a lack of the authenticity I had expected after reading the reviews. The enchilada was merely a glorified burrito; the ground beef and fried flour tortilla taco was bland and unappetizing.
If you like Mexican food and you're driving through Lingle (because let's be real, you're not planning on staying there) this is a good place to stop. I think it's actually the only place to stop... but anyway...
I currently live in a city with more Mexican restaurants than necessary and Lira's is better than all of them. I went there once about a year ago and still remember the place.
Great food at a low price. Try it.
I've been eating at Lira's since I was knee high to a grasshopper. In my younger years I thought it was just awesome Mexican food for Wyoming standards. But having lived a few more places now (including Texas) it really it the best Mexican food EVER! I even converted my hardcore TEXMEX-loving husband to Lira's. As we travel around the United States he will actually tell people to stop by and eat there. And this brings me to the hard part: aforementioned by other raters Lira's is truly in the middle of nowhere, so if you are on I-25 and you have some extra time fill, look this place up. The pork chili is amazing! I would recommend smothering everything you get in it and the fishbowl margs on the rocks will knock you off your feet (PS the closest hotel is 10 miles down the road). ENJOY!
Review Source:Having grown up in the area it is always good to find a consistent comfort when I come home. Â Lira's is a southeastern Wyoming institution. Â Family owned and operated, it consistently provides amazingly good food for a great price. Â I haven't lived in the area for 20 years, but go every time I come home to visit family. Â Lira's is my all time favorite.
Review Source:Lingle, Wyoming doesn't have a lot going for it. Â An incredibly tiny town, even by Wyoming standards, and I'm pretty sure about 95% of the 200 people that live there are related to each other. Â The only other family in town runs this Mexican restaurant, which is one of the best Mexican places you'll ever find, anywhere.
I'm not very knowledgeable about much of anything, but I have eaten Mexican food nearly every where I've ever visited and all of the places that matter, including Mexico. Â Never had a better plate of Mexican food in my entire life. Â I'm lucky enough that my parents live 10 miles from here, so I can go back whenever I want. Â
If you live a good life and happen to be lucky, I hope someday you get to experience the best Mexican food in the universe.
