Of all places to be around lunchtime I found myself in Yadkinville. Â What is there to eat in Yadkinville? Â I hit my handy Yelp app and found a BBQ place that had pretty good reviews so off I go. Â I consider myself a BBQ connoisseur and find places like Sonny's "real pit" BBQ to be horrible and soulless. Â This place was a close second to Sonny's in my opinion.
Located in a strip mall off the highway and decorated nicely, and like you would want a BBQ place to be decorated with a bunch of "pig paraphernalia" Little Richards was pretty busy for lunchtime in Yadkinville.
I sat down and ordered the basic staple of a chopped pork plate. Â I cannot stand BBQ Slaw and found it nice that they give you a choice of mayonnaise or BBQ slaw. Â Here was my issue at ordering, I don't like but a certain kind of hushpuppy and generally don't order them unless I know they have some flavor. Â Their menu plainly states NO SUBSTITUTIONS so you cannot substitute fries, beans or anything else for that matter for the hushpuppies. Â Why not? Â What is the big deal of accommodating your customers? Â Does it cost you more to load my plate up with a minimum of 20 hushpuppies (no exaggeration) rather than give me a handful of fries? Â So I ordered a side of fries for an additional fee. Â OK, so the fries are basic food service crinkle cut and were meh, nothing special. Â The hushpuppies, as I suspected were bland and just fried pieces of nothingness, filler if you will. Â The BBQ was basically just plain smoked, flavorless pork that again, had no soul. Â Their sauces were interesting since they give you a choice of vinegar based or tomato based. Â I don't think vinegar has any place near any kind of meat, so I chose the tomato based and it was ok. Â
I'll say it again, the fact that they won't substitute crappy fries for really crappy huspuppies doesn't make any sense to me and factored into my experience. Â If you're looking for a place to strap on the feedbag and fill your belly this place fits the bill. Â If you want really good BBQ, keep driving.
God bless yelp and the fine people that made my bbq adventure successful! I was headed home from the carolinas and could not physically leave the state until I had some finger lickin' local bbq . This place is in a strip mall, so I was a little hesitant but I was surprised by the quality and offerings they had. Each day has a special...I had sunday's pork platter with hush puppies and bbq slaw (non mayo). Amazing flavor and they seemingly had their own sauces to choose from. The staff was on top of drinks and their southern accents just made me feel at home. Wish I could say I will be back...but highly recommend if you are in the area!
Review Source:Group of 4 ate here on 8.24.2012. Â This restaurant has an outdoors/sports theme. Â It was very nice & clean. Â 2 of us had chopped bbq (tray & plate). Â The bbq is Lexington style Q. Â It is sweet & tender with a slight smokey flavor. Â You are given a choice of sauces: Lexington or hickory. Â We chose the Lexington sauce which seemed to have been heated. Â It was fantastic! Â The Q was very clean with almost no fat. Â One of the group had the bbq chicken legs. Â These were smokey in a thick sweet tomato based sauce. Â Again very tasty. Â The last person had a hot dog. Â The dogs were thin red weiners. Â Typical NC hot dog. Â Good! Â The sides were fries, mac & cheese & turnip greens. Â The mac & cheese was good, the fries were ok & the greens were bad. Â The greens tasted like something from a can with little or ne seasoning.
In summary, the meats were good, but the sides could be better. Â I would recommend & gladly try again.
Get here early! Â They are always busy! Â I have eaten here at least three times and always get the Pork BBQ and the BBQ Sauce is simple and very good! Comfortable atmosphere, never feel rushed, the staff is very helpful, friendly and service is fast!
Red Slaw or BBQ Slaw, this is the one without Mayo (I hate Mayo) this slaw is real good! Â The fries are OK! Â The hush Puppies are OK!
