I wish we would have been able to try the food at Lona's Restaurant in Franklin however when we arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 PM on a Friday (after attending the Applefest) we were very rudely greeted by an older lady who appeared not to be thrilled with our party of 3 adults and 4 small children. Â The very friendly hostess who sat a party before us was kind enough to ask that party if they had a preference of whether they wanted to sit outside (where there was loud live music going on) or inside and so when we saw that we decided among ourselves we would sit inside because of the live music outside which we didn't think was appropriate for the children. Â However, when the older lady rudely greeted us she did not bother to ask nor did she bother with any kind of formalities like "hi, how are you?" it was simply just "how many?" and she stormed off with the menus to a table outside as close to the speakers as possible. Â When we politely asked if there was any way we could have a table inside, she looked very offended and said we would have to wait and she took off inside just leaving us at this table by the speakers which were obnoxious. Â We ended up leaving. Â
According to this website Lona's claims to be good for groups, yet our group could not be accommodated. Â It says that Lona's is good for kids and while we did receive children's menus that is about as accommodating as they were for our children. Â Also, it says the noise level is quiet; being a Friday night I understand having live entertainment and that is not bothersome to me however there was an option for us to sit indoors and not have to be exposed to the entertainment but we were not even offered that. Â It was 6:30 on a Friday night, a perfectly reasonable time to eat dinner with family, and we were so unwelcome. Â After driving 70 miles from Erie PA to enjoy the Applefest all we wanted was to find somewhere for us and our little children to eat after a long day but Lona's was not the place. Â I would never give Lona's another shot and I will be sure to spread around my recommendation.
My wife and I visit the Franklin area twice a year to visit her side of the family. We like to try restaurants wherever we travel, and Lona's is our current favorite in Franklin. We've been twice now over the last year and have been pleased both times. The food is very good, as are the prices and service.
This week we went and ordered the Reuben and cheesesteak sandwiches, one with sweet potato fries and the other with onion rings. Both were very good, filling, and under $10. Our son loved the too!
A nice restaurant with a decent selection of food and great selection of beer and wine. The staff was very courteous, helpful and nice. I highly recommend this Franklin eatery!
The only small issue is being served wine and other alcoholic beverages in cheap plastic cups. I do understand that was due to the Apple Festival but it is still unacceptable.
I am a resident of Franklin, and have seen this site go through several name/owner changes, Lona's is by far the best incarnation. They have an awesome side patio in the heart of downtown Franklin. The outside dining tends to be a little close to traffic but does provide regular live music. There is also a covered deck area for those rainy days.
Food is very good, and moderatly priced, the angus burgers are arguably the best in town if not Venango County. Service is attentive and prompt except for the P/T hostess who does not put "seating guests" as her priority. We waited for more than 10 mins to sit in the empty resturant while she flitted around putting out glasses and silverware.
I was in town for business an found this place while out for a walk. Service was excellent and the food was better. The atmosphere was clean and comfortable work quiet background music. There is restaurant seating outdoors but I ate at the bar since I was alone and it was hot out. The staff was awesome.
Review Source:We tried Lona's when we drove up to Franklin for the annual Franklin on Ice festival and I was very impressed! The staff was very friendly, the place itself was small but nicely decorated, and the food was amazing!
I ordered the angus burger with swiss cheese, and it was the best burger I have ever had in a restaurant in my life. Seasoning was perfect, and it was medium just like I had asked for. My fiance got the Philly Cheesesteak with chicken and it was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. The biggest delight was the chicken pot pie that his mother ordered... they advise that you check to make sure they have them before ordering due to their popularity and when hers hit the  table we understood why. The pie was huge! A full sized chicken pie, with wonderful flakey crust, and just the right amount of gravy inside. It was amazing!
All in all, I was very impressed with Lona's and I cannot wait to go back there again.
