Awesome!! Great seafood Buffett. Don't understand where all of the negative complaints are coming from. Definitely THE go to place when you're in SPI. Great family fun on Fridays to see fireworks

The Steak & Seafood buffet was EXCELLENT!! The crab legs were cooked to perfection as well as the prime rib! VERY IMPRESSED.

Make reservations otherwise you're looking at a 30 min - 1.5hr wait time.

We recently went on the 4th of the July and the place is packed but worth the wait! Adult $25.99 & Child $12.99

Delicious!  Great seafood buffet!  Fresh!  A family of six loaded up for less than $100. While that sounds pricey, all the seafood was worth the money. This was our splurge dinner. Well worth it!  Eat inside or outside. We chose inside due to sunburns. =)
There is an upstairs and downstairs.  Upstairs is bar.  Downstairs is food buffet.  Completely different atmospheres.

I took a Red Snapper I caught that day to Louies for the Cook your Catch..they prepared it three ways..grilled, blackened, and texas pecan crusted (pan fried). Yes, I know because I caught it it tasted better but...it really was the best fish I've ever eaten.

Food here was okay. I wish the server would have told us that the "toothpick vegetables" were fried and enough food for 5 people (it was just my husband and I).

Great sports bar (lots of tvs) and it was pretty cheap. With drinks and appetizers, it was about $40 for the 2 of us.

I don't understand these poor reviews.  We were there for a band trip dinner, so the restaurant was serving approximately 200 people (mostly starving teenagers) at a time.  They were organized, extremely service-oriented, and friendly.  The waiters first went around to make sure EVERYONE had a drink.  Then, all the adults were taken to the buffet line first (big plus)!!!  The food was delicious and the crab and shrimp were humungous.  They also had good prime rib, BBQ ribs, and tons of sides.  I must have looked like a ravaged animal because I had about four plates worth of food. The other moms of course had only scorn on their faces, but I didn't care because I was enjoying the food.  At the end of the meal, they served everyone with chocolate cake with strawberries.  What a great way to end the meal.  I would definitely make Louie's a destination next time I am in SPI.

I am very surprised that Dan answered my comments. I had frequented Louis in the winter with friends about twice a week until I received 8 gift certificates .Dan said they have come a long way however I did not see anything in his reply saying you could get a credit for the unused amounts on your next visit.  I lost between $20 & $28 dollars  from the face value of the certificates .   When he looks in the mirror he must see a thief looking back                                                                                                                                       Hey Dan you have screwed me enough never again.    If you want forgiveness find a Priest   Paul H       Crosslake     Mn

My wife and I recently enjoyed a very satisfying meal and experience here.  Being off season and not crowded was a bonus as it was quiet and we were able to sit bay side and enjoy the sunset.  We didn't have the buffet, but ordered off of the menu.  For the price, we've not had a more satisfying meal with the amount and quality of food in a while.  More than worth it.  We enjoyed great service and interaction with both waitress and manager.  We would definitely return.

THIS IS A MUST GO TO PLACE TO EAT, DRINK, AND HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!  The food was DELICIOUS, PLENTIFUL, and fresh.  Our waitress was very efficient and conscientious of our needs.  I didn't care too much for the band that was performing but the food, service, drinks, and waitress more than made up for it.  I can't wait to go back during my next visit!!!

I went here a few weeks back with some friends while visiting South Padre Island.  We really cut loose.   It was a BLAST!

There was a great duet (a percussionist and a guitarist) belting out all the greatest hits:  Brown Eyed Girl, Oye como va, Born to be Wild, Unchained Melody, Lynard Skynaard, ACDC, and many many more great ones.

It was a pretty small crowd but the majority of us were on the dance floor shaking our booties!! :)    It was a much needed break/escape for me.  At Louie's I left my worries behind for a bit  and it felt good.  Plus it was smoke friendly which is a welcome change in this new smoke discriminatory world we live in.  LOL!

Not to mention there was one particular HOTTTIE that let me bum smokes off him after I finished my pack towards the end of the evening.  :)

One of the few places on the island that has the NFL Sunday Ticket.  The sports bar is upstairs and there are a bunch of TV's.  For food we had the nachos, ribs, and grilled seafood plate.  The nachos were ok... they dress each chip individually, but they were lacking any flavor.  The ribs were just average too... boiled and dressed with BBQ sauce.  The seafood plate was very good... although the portion was a bit small.

    Service was good.

    Smoking allowed here.

    Shoddy wi-fi.

Not sure how this place has all these negative reviews. Popped here for the buffet and it was lush. Big open patio, food was good and the service was good. No complaints here except load me up more crab..

F....26 dollars for worse than long john silvers fried foods, crab was rank. Took 15 minutes for the waiter to run my card had to hunt him down he was jerking off with peers in the back.  The food gave me food poisoning am now puking. Menu has 5 things to choose from the buffet being the best option. (everything is around 20) view is nice, no ambiance otherwise.  Worse I came in buzzed meaning not picky it somehow still was bad.  Can't imagine how bad sober.  Srsly hate mcdonalds but that would have been a nicer experience.

Don't go here.  It is filthy and incredibly expensive.  Yes, it is an all you can eat buffet, but it really isn't worth $21 per person unless you have unlimited patience and the ability to eat three people's worth of food.

Even on a Sunday evening when they were all but dead, the lines to get to the food were so slow that I just gave up after a while.  The food itself is o.k., but again, not worth the price, the wait and the fear of all the different ways you could leave this place with severe food poisoning.  It was just THAT filthy.

I understand that it is an indoor/outdoor restaurant, and that it can't be pristine, but there was filth everywhere, and the amount of fried shrimp dropped from desperately over-loaded buffet plates has become a family joke.  They were everywhere, in the corners, on the stairs, under tables.  It would have been so easy for the servers or bus boys to scoop them up and dispose of them, and yet they never did.

And then... the service.  I saw one waitress putting cherries into mixed drinks out of what looked like a dirty cup, with her bare hands.  Instead of disposing of the table scraps properly, the people clearing the tables threw all the food over the edge of the patio into the water, then watched as the roiling nastiness of catfish devoured the remains.  Yes, these were EMPLOYEES doing this.

I've grossed myself out so much in writing this that I am changing my rating from two stars to one.  Don't go to this restaurant.

Not crowded at all on a Sunday night, we went for the buffet since it wasn't much more (now $21) than anything else on the menu. The food was OK - not great, not terrible. We did sit right on the water which was nice. Although service was a bit slow, it doesn't matter much when you do the buffet. One thing to keep in mind - the tap water on South Padre is all but undrinkable,  So ice tea, mixed drinks, even the fountain drinks will taste like crap if they are made with unfiltered tap water. Get something that comes in a can or a bottle.

If you have the ability to put away mass quantities of shrimp, crab legs, etc. the buffet might bump this to a 3 or even 4 star place. For ordinary appetites, not worth the price.

Overall an OK South Padre experience, but I doubt we'll go back.

I went here two nights during spring break although I am well past my undergraduate years. I didn't realize they served food because I would have definitely checked that out. Anyway, on the nightlife- This place is fun. 2/3 nights we came here and the other night was pretty wack when we went to some other spot. It's pretty packed eventhough it was right after Spring Break. It's kind of strange how they ask you millions of questions when they card you but whatever- I have nothing to hide. The music is good. The crowd is kind of mixed and a little weird, but overall was a good time. It seems to be the spot to go in South Padre.

Ate upstairs and had appetizers. Ceviche and grilled shrimp doused in frank's red hot. Definitely nothing to write home about. I'm just glad we were smart enough to not order drinks, and our service was pretty good. There has GOT to be a place at SPI that I can depend on...

Not impressed. My husband and I went there (since Amberjack's appears to now be closed) so he could have the full South Padre experience of sitting outside, looking at the Causeway and eating seafood. I'm positive we told the host on three separate occasions that we wanted to sit outside. When the hostess came to seat us, the host told her we wanted to sit inside. For the last time, we wanted to sit OUTSIDE. After wandering the maze, she asked us if "that table" (pointing to no table in particular) would be okay. We had to ask twice which table before she finally clarified "the table in the back corner". We said that was fine, and she left us to escort ourselves the rest of the way. P.S.: that same hostess gave us no menus or silverware, so you can imagine that we might have been clueless when the waitress came to take our order. So, we waited for another five or ten minutes for menus. To make a long story short, we didn't ask for much, but when we did, you could guarantee that it was going to be at least ten minutes before our request was fulfilled. My husband and I aren't needy people, and I almost never write poor reviews of a restaurant, but dang! I watched our server go toward the kitchen area, come back, and serve other tables before she finally came back to us. I might also add that the place WASN'T BUSY, although there might have been a reason for that. I can also say that when I asked for a refill of my tea, the waitress brought back water because "the tea hasn't been brewed yet." At least she was nice enough to do that. The water tasted like pool water, so I really hope no one peed in it. The food was subpar at best.

If I ever have to go back to this place, it will be because I was probably bound, gagged and too drunk to know the difference.

We were in South Padre for 3 days and Louie's was our favorite/best meal we had. We got the dinner buffet which is $18 bucks a person but it comes with a great assortment of seafood, prime rib, and various other goodies. We sat outside the weather and sunset was just amazing. They had a great happy hour $2.50 beers yay I am a fan. Just beware when your sitting outside and you leave your table with food on it unattended the seagulls and pelicans will get it. It wasn't a big deal we moved tables and got more drinks problem solved. My husband and I joked about just coming to eat here every night since our other dining experiences at other restaurants was sub par. The wait staff is really nice and the food is yum. Really you can't go wrong with this place! I will be back!

So we were going to give this place probably 3 stars until as we were sitting at the table a cockroach crawled across the table and then wouldn't go away. Good beer prices, pretty good food (definitely bar food and not restaurant food) and alright service, but bugs on the table, even at the beach, just freak me out.

I did enjoy the beautiful views of the water, the numerous televisions playing sports, and I was impressed with the fresh, seared tuna. Everyone around me loved their shrimp, their chicken wings, and their chicken tenders. Just... eww, bugs.

I don't think I've ever handed out a one-star rating before, but DAMN this place was awful!  My family and I took a weekend trip to South Padre and wanted to watch the fireworks show on Friday.  We were originally going to eat at Laguna Bob's next door, but decided to head to Louie's since it seemed a little more kid-friendly (my son is 7).

So the hostess (who didn't seem to be in a good mood) took us to our table, where we sat for 15 minutes before the waiter even took our drink order!  We didn't feel like waiting any longer, so we all opted for the buffet dinner instead of ordering from the dinner menu.

I wasn't expecting anything fancy since it was a buffet and all, but for $20 a plate, I was at least hoping for something decent.  Not quite... I honestly can't think of one thing that was good from the buffet.  The fried fish was decent, but pretty much everything else was bad (salad was extremely watery, ribs were cold, potatoes were raw and bland, rice was mushy, tartar sauce had a funky aftertaste, etc.).  Oh, and they didn't have any limes for my Dos XX.

So if you want to spend $60 for a load of crap dinner for three, this is your place.  If not, I'd stay away!

I guess they did earn one star for the view of the fireworks show.

Love me some good sea food, music and drinks.
I like the environment here. I usually eat and then stay for the fireworks at around nineish. It's a great show. Then it's off to the upstairs area for a few drinks with the friends.
Good parking area. It just gets crowded at closing time cause the exits are limited.

Food sucks, service sucks and the only thing salvaging an otherwise horrible experience was a beautiful sunset (attributable to God, not Louie).

The best part was the end of the meal when I asked to get my portion of the check, (so that we could avoid a complete meltdown by an exhausted 5 month old baby). I was informed by the kid who obviously failed the math portion of his GED that he couldn't split checks, even though I just told him what I ordered (from him) 2 minutes previously. It got especially entertaining when I told him to break out the calculator on his iPhone and add up what I ordered and bring me the check for that amount or he wasn't getting anything because I wasn't waiting 2 more hours for the rest of our group to finish the night.

Don't waste good money on horrible food and service. Go to Dirty Al's or Pelican Landing in Port Isabel and watch the fireworks from there.

We all had the all you can eat buffet and it was definitely worth the $22 per person.  The crab legs absolutely rocked and prime rib was very juicy.  It was sort of a small buffet but well worth it for the seafood and beef.

The atmosphere inside reminded us of being on a cruise ship at a buffet.  The upper deck on Sat was awesome as they hVe the amazing firework show at 9:15 pm.  It's something you dont want to miss out on.

All in all very well worth it!

I guess when you're the only half-decent club on the island with good dance music then you can get away with jacking up your drink prices, charging a ridiculous cover and having a cash-only policy at the bar.

This is a hot club. No, not the people (trust me, I looked) but the place itself is lacking ANY kind of air circulation. Yes, SPI is hot and there is so much that the ocean breeze can do. But there is some serious crowd control issues - too many people and not enough fans or A/C units to offer relief.

I haven't been here for food and probably never will (I'm a vegetarian after all). I WILL go back. Despite the crappy obvious problems, as a tourist on a small island, you take what you can get. I had fun dancing and that's all I really wanted to do. Next time I will probably pre-game and wear less or lighter clothing. At least I can get away with that in Padre...

I have never been to a restaurant that was terrible from start to finish. Flat soda. When brought to the attention of the waiter we were informed that "Thats just the way it is" apparently their machine was defective. The waitstaff floundered around and disappeared which wasn't all his fault as they were severely understaffed for the amount of tourist that were there. The food was overpriced (min of 20 a plate) for food that was no better o then what you could get at a Long John Silvers...ljs would've been preferable actually.  Drinks were watered down ...well you get the point. The only high point was that it was directly across from the barge where the fireworks were launched which made for a good show.

I get the appeal. You're on vacation. You wanna go to a place on the beach, knock back some drinks, lounge and eat seafood. That's what brought us there. But honestly, you're better off grabbing a few beers and some sandwiches and chilling right on the beach. Cheaper and a guaranteed good time without destroying your wallet and leaving you disappointed with your "fine dining" experience.

I've heard about their buffet, but I never went there for the food.  I wanted to know where to go to as far as the nightlife and late drinking goes and I was told that Louie's Backyard is the one.

Truth be told, Louie's Backyard is the only place that's really happening at South Padre if you're looking for a place to dance and get your groove on.

However, what turned me off is that I had to pay $10 cover AND pay $2.25 for a soda and soda is free at the bars back home.  :(

Before 11pm they played old school 80's and 90's music ( Vanilla Ice, Salt N' Peppa, etc.)  Then after 11pm that's when more of the younger crowd came in and the top 40 hits started playing.

I guess there's really not much going on outside this place, but I'd be more unwilling to go back there because of that stupid cover charge.

If Louies was located anywhere but the directly on the bay, it would be bankrupt. The food is absolutely awful. Prime rib is cold. Fish are over-cooked. High School cafeterias do a better job at steaming their vegetables. The ribs were just okay. And our drinks were never refilled.

This was one of the worst meals I've had in awhile. All four people in our party agreed. Do yourself a favor...for the same amount of money, go to Cafe Kranzler instead.

We tried the buffet.  We were going to get the ribs special, but were talked into it.

It was good.  My plan was to eat crab legs til I couldn't anymore and I did just that.

The buffet wasn't huge, but there was plenty of fish, shrimp and crab legs.  Had some salad.  Had some fruit and potatoes.  But really i was concentrating on the crab legs and the shrimp.  I wasn't disappointed.  The prime rib was also pretty tasty - my friend shared some of that with me.

The outside patio is nice - the menu seems spendy - so might as well go with the buffet - unless you sit in the bar for the half rack o ribs on sunday night for under $10 - my friends were raving about them .. .

Came here for spring break. This was usually the place my group of about 25 hit up because there were a ton of people that came here and the girls were pretty good looking. They also held concerts here. Cascada, Paul Wall and Chamillionaire all performed here. The drinks were extremely expensive so we usually pregamed very hard before going.

They have a karoake area, multiple dance floors and a ton of smaller bars located everywhere. The bathrooms got nasty by the end of the night because they probably had close to 500 people in here at one time. The dance floor upstairs isn't too bad and they usually have some stupid contest going on where the winner is decided by the crowd so one of our guys in the group would usually end up winning because we could be very loud if needed.

I've tried the food here once and it was nothing to brag about. Don't dress up if you want to come to party because no one does. You'll just look like an idiot and people like me will make fun of you.

The DJ is also nothing to brag about either.

Do not go to Louie's unless you're there for fireworks... actually - just watch the fireworks somewhere else.  No zero stars? Come on yelp!

If you come adorned in a Hawaiian shirt, fannie pack, and crocs, you will absolutely love Louies Backyard!  If you're the type that usually requests extra sweet and sour and no tequila in your margaritas, then I highly recommend their house marg.  If you have an iron stomach and love greasy fried food with little taste then look no further. If you melt at the sound of "Margarittaville" covers and love dancing under the pale blue light of a bud light sign, then Louie's is your stop.

    /sarcasm

My wife and I had just arrived on South Padre Island looking forward to a romantic weekend on a beautiful island... little did we know.  We had heard that Louie's was the place to go from nearly everyone that had heard of SPI.  It was late in the evening when we arrived, so we figured it would be appropriate to check it out first and watch the fireworks.

Downstairs is labeled as "fine dining" even though the food looked mediocre at best.  We made the mistake of eating upstairs in the bar.  The food was sub-fast food quality and priced like it was much higher scale.  $9 for an iceberg lettuce salad?  I am almost embarrassed to review this place because the quality and atmosphere were so deplorable.  The facility is dilapidated and dirty and the staff was young (high school) and rude.  The only saving grace came at the end of the night where a 5 min. fireworks show takes place from a barge in the bay right in front of Louie's.

My verdict: Avoid this fried food, beach bum trap.

FUN BAR!  Where else can you drink and dance at a decent, clean place and overlook the bay?  Plus the food is good.  It's one of the most fun places in the area to watch the fireworks (which are every Friday night during the summer months).

NO STAR place !  you must be drunk already to appreciate this place.
People pay for for gut wrenching food and weak drinks just to see a fireworks show, as best as I can tell. Even the sodas were flat,
We were asked to stand in line for almost one hour to get to be served a Luby's quality seafood buffet. I left my company hosted function at this place to go back to my hotel and enjoy quality seafood and service.

We went here a couple nights for drinks...The location and drinks were good.  The first time we went there on a Saturday night and there were quite a few people there...we had a great time.  Their hurricanes were very good...something like 32 oz or so...$12 each, but considering the size, that's actually a decent deal.  The second time we went on a Friday night...the place is huge and there were probably 20 people in the entire place...so that was disappointing.

I can certainly see how the place would be a great spring break location.  We didn't get to try any of the food or go to the sports bar, but we'll definitely go back next time we're there.

Totally solid.  The location is great, the outdoor seating is wonderful.  The service was pretty okay.  The food was fine.

There are quite a few things about Louie's that are great -- mostly related to the location, the deck and the size being plenty roomy.  The food and drink are just okay.  The margaritas weren't super-awesome (we just got the house margaritas, the premium ones may have been better) and the food was good.  Nothing super-awesome though.

Honestly, though, the lovely deck is really enough to make sure that I have gone more than once.

I'm starting to wonder if the other people who reviewed Louie's work for the company because there was nothing 5 star about this place. At ALL. The buffet was in a corner of their huge craptastic restaurant. People were elbow to elbow in line waiting for a crappy baked potato. The salad was a joke. If you like bagged salads then this is your place. Do you enjoy hard hush puppies? This is your place!! If you don't have any taste buds then this is your haven.

Don't even think that because this place has an awesome view that perhaps the drinks will make up for the awful food because it doesn't. The "margarita" we were served was blended from a 5 dollar walmart blender and the ice used to make your rita was the ice that your refrigerator makes. My margarita was clear and it had large uncrushed pieces of ice in it. There was no lime in it. I basically had a blended drink of tequila. YUCK!!!

The fried shrimp was edible. That's all I have to say about that.

Louie's is THE place to go on Padre Island. We didn't make it their for dinner, so this review is for the club/bar not the restaurant.

The majority of the club is on the upstairs balcony. It's plenty big enough with lots of seating and room to dance, but jeez it was hot. No AC, no fans. In June! Are you kidding me?

Fortunately, they had a smaller bar off to the side with AC so everyone would go in to cool off. They were also having karaoke inside so it was a nice spot to sit and people watch.

FYI- they don't accept credit/debit cards so bring cash!

A great outside deck or airconditioned inside, Louie's is comfortable with a great view of the bay.  The buffet is fantastic, and a good value or the money. All you can eat snow crab legs, salad bar, overstuffed baked potatoes, fried and boiled shrimp, hush puppies, tasty ribs. Will definitely be back!

This place was friggin' awesome! They had an option of either their menu or the buffet, which the night my boyfriend and I went was a Seafood buffet. Although, I'm not much of a seafood buff, I was pleasantly surprised when they had crab legs.

So you can only image which one I opted for. The food was delicious, they had a salad bar selection, the buffet was served cafeteria style where the people on the opposite side scoops it onto your plate. Don't worry you can still go back up for seconds... that's why it's a buffet!

I got the prime rib, potato salad, fruit salad, and some other stuff. But they piled on those crab legs onto my plate and it was magnificent.
Food was delicious especially for a buffet style.

In addition to that, this place was huge! It had indoor and outdoor seating right on the water which was just beautiful. We got to see the sunset because it was on the bay side.

As 7 pm was rounding the corner, they had some guy do live music from upstairs. We didn't stick around for that, but the place started getting real busy as soon as that started.

The wait staff was extremely pleasant and charming. Thumbs up for this place! And to think, Scott didn't even want to go to this place... I'm glad I got him to change his mind. He admitted he enjoyed it as much as I did. :-)
