Oh where to start.  This is not a place you will just pass by because it is off the beaten path in the middle of nowhere.  You will only find it by accident if you get really lost.

Now how to describe.  It would probably scare most folks.  It's a dive.  Brunswick bowling alley chairs out front, handmade signs for Elvis impersonator, run down just to start.  Once you step inside it's sensory overload.  More Elvis memorabilia than I think I have ever seen anywhere and it's everywhere you turn.  You cannot escape Elvis in this place.  It's also full of a lifetime of collecting.  Curio cabinets everywhere with glass that is so cloudy with dust and dirt that it's hard to make out the contents.  The tables nor the chairs match.

The menu is slim pickings but cheap and portions huge.  We made a mistake and both ordered the white fish lunch.  Hubby didn't care for it but I liked it and it was a huge portion.  But that wasn't why we came here.

As he sat our food down we asked what pies they had and he started spouting them off one by one.  Lemon Meringue.  Chocolate Meringue.  Butterscotch Meringue.  Chocolate Peanut Buttter.... and Zucchini.  "Zucchini" I questioned after asking him to repeat the last one three times.  "Zucchini like the squash?"  He couldn't believe we hadn't heard of or ever had it so he immediately bought over a huge piece on the house.

I like zucchini pie.  Nice chunks of tender zucchini in a custard base.  Just sweet enough but not so much as to overpower the flavor of the zucchini.

But butterscotch was our real desire and it didn't disappoint.  Again, a huge slice served in a bowl.  Crust is not homemade but perfectly prepped so that it's not soggy.  Butterscotch filling was without a doubt homemade and made for one of the best pieces of pie ever.  The meringue was so light and tender.  I don't know that I have ever had one that good - it just melted upon contact with your tongue.

The guy said his mother bakes them fresh every day and it is obvious that not only are they fresh but she puts love into every one.

As for the building, the guy filled us in on it.  Built in 1870 as a general store, later served as an auction barn until they put the cafe in there in the 1970's.  It was originally Lurton's General Store so they kept the name Lurton's for their cafe.

And yes, they have an Elvis impersonator that performs on a regular basis there (probably weekly) and even dresses his infant son up like Elvis.

This one is worth going out of the way for.

Real good food here, Y'all! It is out of the way but very tasty and CHEAP! Try a roast beef manhattan (it's HUGE) or the white fish dinner if you are ever there for lunch. For dinner I reccommend the Ribeye or New York strip steak....they use their own homemade seasoning and it gives the steak sum flava...really good! They have fresh brewed iced tea and pretty much any type of soda you want. If you are out of town, try a big red! Nice cook, ask for Eva (the owner) She's awesome and really just a damn good cook!  If you are ever in Southern IN (god help u) hee hee, jk , go there you will likey!
