You know how people say, "I'm in the mood for some Mexican food tonight"? or "How about some Italian for dinner?" Â Well, nobody ever says, "I sure could go for some Scottish food tonight!" Â or "Haggis for everyone!". Â Yeah, because the Scots aren't world renowned for their culinary delights.
But ...
If you like shepherd's pie, make the trip out to MacPhee's. Â Hand down, best I have ever had. Â Now that I am writing about it, I think I have to get out there again, and soon. Â That shepherd's pie is good re-heated too. Â And it is 90 degrees outside right now, yet that plate of shepherd's pie is calling to me in a thick Scottish accent.
It's a Scottish-themed restaurant, not something you see every day. Â Haggis? Â Yep. Â They have it. Â Though I have never tried it. Â You have to order it 24 hours in advance, so don't expect it to be available if you just show up and order it. Â Not that I imagine it is a doorbuster of a menu item.
However, they have a LOT of other, non-Scottish food - there actually is only a few items on the menu that are Scottish. Â 90% of the menu is not Scottish.. Â And yes, the other food really is very good. Â Really. Â You won't be disappointed. Â And yes, the bread sticks are fantastic, carb-filled, warm, go-straight-to-your belly bundles of goodness that you will finish in a blink of an eye and then eat another one. Â And another. Â And then the wait staff will ask if you want more, and you will emphatically say YES YES YES.
Waitstaff is excellent - friendly, warm and efficient. Â These employees know what they are doing and seem to enjoy it.
It is a really good, solid restaurant that you will not be disappointed with. Â If you are one to be adventurous enough to actually want to eat haggis, this is YOUR place! Â Otherwise, go with the beef medallions, the chicken, even with the pasta. Â Yum.
Very popular locally, and a very good supporter of the community. Â My family loves - I mean LOVES - their breadsticks. Â The Scottish theme is unique in the area and the availability of traditional Scottish dishes fits right in with the theme. Â I've enjoyed their pizza & burgers while my family enjoys their pasta & deserts. Â A separate bar is located off the dining room. Â Clean and friendly.
Review Source:This restaurant is on the smaller side, but the booths are comfy and the waitstaff is consistently good. The decor is nothing fancy, but it doesn't really need to be. Pizza is yummy, but the big draw (and probably at least a third of their business) is the breadsticks. Waiters bring them out in basketloads, free and fresh with any entree, or you can get them to-go. My mom made the mistake of bringing two dozen to a holiday get-together one year, and now they're a staple at family gatherings -- we just bought 5 dozen last week to take to a birthday party! Get your order with the original cheese dip (or ranch, if you're my sister) and you really can't go wrong.
