Excellent restaurant and incredible wine list. Â My wife took me there to celebrate my birthday with great friends, Our evening started Mary our server--she was great in every aspect of service, next we were greeted by our wine navigator, he was spot on when we challenged him with three different wine preferences rolled into one bottle...actually it took two to get us through dinner! Â The a la carte menu is similar to most fine dining establishments, the wine was reasonably priced the chocolate souffle capped off a great evening. Â
We will be back!
So cozy and quaint. Loved sitting outside on the veranda. We had already eaten lunch so stopped by for some afternoon tea and wine. It was so relaxing sitting by the waterfall and just vegging out. Great service and would also recommend for brunch or dinner... Also if you have time, check out the Old Edwards for a nice massage and spa time!
Review Source:My husband surprised me with a birthday getaway to Old Edwards Inn & part of the package he got included a 3 course dinner at Madison's. This place. Wow. What an experience!
First, let me say, you should really go here if you're celebrating a special occasion. From rose petals sprinkled on the table...to complimentary surprises from the kitchen...to our dessert with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate - they really roll out the red carpet for you!
We started with salads - one garden drenched in homemade blue cheese, one with pear and fried goat cheese (both decorated with edible flowers!). We also tried their scallop appetizer - large scallops so fresh and delicious. For our mains, I had the beef tenderloin and my husband had the venison. They were both out of this world!! I think I was in a food coma by this point, but I do remember my tenderloin was served perfectly medium rare with purple carrots and a variety of other fresh root veggies (think different types of beets).
The service was also outstanding...the food was all perfectly timed and our waiter checked on us just enough. He advised us on the very important decision on dessert...apparently every day they have a special soufflé and he said that was the way to go (but you need to plan for it since it takes 20 minutes to prepare).
That night it was an apple cinnamon soufflé. By now my food coma was a permanent condition. Wow...so good...drool. Definitely try the soufflé, hot out of the oven goodness!
I loved Madison's and hope to try it again some day if I'm back in Highlands!
My wife and I had breakfast there this morning and were very excited when we saw the menu. The service was good but the food was disappointing. The cheese grits were lukewarm and the toast was too cool to melt butter, which they didn't supply anyway. Â The bacon was not high quality and over cooked to boot. Â The eggs were scorched and obviously cooked in a pan that was too hot.
Overall very poor experience and overpriced
Great place overall, not on the cheap side.
The restaurant and Wine Garden are two similar but different places, with different menus. I'm giving this a 3 not because of the food (which was excellent), but really due to the service. We had a reservation made and asked about sitting outside when we arrived. They didn't really explain that they were two different places, and that the outside wine garden is much more casual. (You feel a bit funny in a sport coat next to a guy in shorts and a camo hat). When we went back inside to claim our reservation, to be honest the hostess and somellier were a little rude. Our waitress was super nice and tried her best, but wasn't much help as she had never tried any of the food (a restaurant charging these prices usually has them sample at least once if not every time the menu changes). The food overall was awesome, very composed, and you can tell they have some great chef's putting together the flavor combo. Again, fairly pricey (they sell 1/2 bottles of wine at $165), but more sane heads can prevail with a $9-15 glass.
Make sure afterwards to head up to the Hummingbird lounge. Think if a library had a baby with a lounge act.. I found the guy playing music to be hilarious, and he was a friend of the folks whose B&B we stayed at. A good number of the older people got tipsy on martinis and scotch to the point he was able to make some good jokes at their expense. "Thank you I'm back, sooo keep talking.." I think he got a real kick out of us getting his dry humor. So I loved it.
Great breakfast, nice restaurant. Â Ate breakfast here several times and dinner once. Â For breakfast, I recommend the french toast or the granola, or really, take your pick. Â Everything I tried was very good. Â Dinner was also very nice, the food was well prepared and the servers are friendly. Â Service did take a little while to receive some granola I thought, and after coming for a few days in a row (and having the same servers), they would at least know that I like espresso, not coffee, but whatever, all in all, a fantastic breakfast, a good, solid dinner (especially for Highlands) and it is definitely worth a visit (or two, or three...).
Review Source:I stopped going to Madison's a few years back as the menu seemed best suited for a bridge group. Against my will I joined a group for a birthday luncheon and BOY was I surprised. A new chef is in the kitchen serving a variety of delicious and interesting dishes. The flatbread pizzas change daily and would make a great starter. After there lunch experiences, I can honestly say Madison's should be on your list of the best Highlands has to offer.
Review Source:The decor/ambiance is plush, beautifully formal in a style that seems to be vanishing - art, soft lighting, superb attention to detail .... BUT NOT SNOBBISH! Â The clientele tend to be middle-aged to ancient but the last time I was there only about half the men wore jackets and one guy in his fifties wore a golf shirt and shorts. Â I recently had sturgeon, a slab as big as a 14 oz. fillet. Â It was delicious but think about it - do you ever see sturgeon offered? Â Suffice it to say the food is great and greatly expensive. Â Our waiter, whom we now request, was very, very knowledgeable about the preparation, ingredients etc. of the menu items. Â He claims (we believe him) to have found an error in a SAT question and to have had the College Boards acknowledge the error.
