When our National Boy Scout Jamboree Centennial Band played in Bowling Green, we were able to catch a break to eat and explore the town prior to going back to Fort AP Hill. Came in here for a quick bite to eat before hopping back on the school bus.

I was able to get some of the patches they were passing out here. It was my main goal but for a small town, their catfish n chips was exceptionally delicious. It was a hot day but I also wanted some real food away from the dining hall meals at the Jamboree. You can only take so much once you've had two week's worth of the same thing over and over again. I threw in a sprite and some ice cream finished my quick meal.

The cafe staff were really nice and gave me a small discount since our band played for them and I was also an Eagle Scout. This place also had wifi but since I had only 40 minutes to eat, I made my tummy a happy one.

Bowling Green is also filled with history, so if you are on a road trip. Stop by and eat here, explore the town a bit and then continue on your journey.

After spending most of the day at the National Scout Jamboree at Fort AP Hill outside in the hot sun, I decided to head off base, into nearby Bowling Green for a late lunch. I spotted Cafe on Main Street and saw the sign for Free Wi-Fi. I grabbed my laptop and headed inside for lunch. The place has the atmosphere of a very casual hometown Main Street restaurant with booths, tables, and a small cocktail bar in the same dining area. There some neat looking ornaments hanging from ceiling. There's also a big specials board and a big TV in the back.

I sat myself in a large booth and setup my laptop to check messages. I was given a 2010 BSA Special Menu offering homecooked American dishes including sandwiches, burgers, pork roast, BBQ, country fried steak, prime rib steak, crab cakes, catfish, hand cut fries, and desserts (ice cream & Otis Spunkmeyer cookies). Beer and cocktails from the bar offered. They also have a Bucket Special which is five 12 oz Coors/Coors Light bottles for $10.

I ordered a cold ice water and the BBQ Plate ($9.95): NC Style Pulled Pork (vinegar style) served with potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, and garlic toast. I enjoyed the free wi-fi and the cold ice water as I waited for my lunch (15 minutes). The good portion of food tasted pretty good. The pulled pork was soft and tender with minimal fat and had good flavors with the right amount of vinegar. The potato salad and cole slaw were homemade and very creamy texture and taste. The sweet corn on the cob was fresh and crunchy. The buttered garlic toast was slightly charred on the bottom, but still was good.

The service was good and very attentive as my waitress watched me eat from across the room. I was checked on very often as I watched the TV from across the room, though I was all good most of the time. I was given refills on the ice water which was appreciated. I wasn't rushed after I finished my food, as I was still replying to some messages on the laptop. Overall, a good tasting BBQ lunch, great tasting sides too!

NOTE: They sold out of the limited edition Jamboree patches, but they also taking orders and payments at the restaurant, in case another shipment of patches arrives.
