  I'm a hick. I come from a family of hicks--moonshine for breakfast, cornbread crumbled in buttermilk, collard green picking hicks. We were almost Hillbillies but someone moved before the redneck revolution--er--West Virginia Coal Miners March. They moved to much classier western Arkansas mountains.
  
  That being said, you cannot crumble just ANY cornbread in milk. It has to be super sweet. Mak's Place in Commerce makes the best cornbread I've ever had the privilege to crumble. And the cornbread was not the only thing to make my "best I've ever had" list.
  
  Best meatloaf...seriously. And the tomato gravy served over it was insane. I had them put extra on my mashed taters. It was that good. I had corn nuggets. How do they get creamed corn deep fried?
  
  My Mama (grandmother) had chicken fried steak. Her teeth ain't so good so we asked if the meat were tender enough for her to chew. The little gal behind the counter said they'd sure nuff tender it up some more to be sure. And they sure nuff did.
  
  Crap...slipping into hick mode. Okay, it was almost worth the drive from Dallas to Commerce. Beats the pants off all the stuff we have masquerading as home cookin' here in Dallas proper.
  
  Food at Mak's was better than a crocheted slop jar.  Thar it goes again.
