What an odd place. If you are truly starving to death and have money to burn, please stop by. Burgers taste like those frozen patties and they charge $3 for previously frozen fries. Go to the shop right next to dock and get a good sandwich from the deli. Skip this place. The paper plates and folding plastic chairs don't help anything either...

The tuna sandwich had barely any tuna on it.  The curly fries weren't bad but altogether the meal was way overpriced.

An odd experience. My group and I were mildly hung over and early for our ferry by a few hours on a overcast morning. We should have gone to the Orcas Inn for breakfast, but they were packed and this place seemed to have a ton of room.

My eggs, hasbrowns, and English muffin were fine but disappointing in portion for $8.99. The lady serving us, I assume Mamie, was sweet but the décor is extremely offensive. I have no problem with Republican opinions, I'm talking blatant Democrat bashing postings all over the outdoor seating area. It made us incredibly uncomfortable to the point that we downed our breaky and got out of there stat.

In the future we'll be swinging into the dock side grocery store when our stomachs are rumbling while waiting for our boat. Save this location for a last resort.

I stopped in at Mamie's after having a beer and sandwich across the street at the Inn and wanting to see what else was at Orcas Harbor while waiting for the ferry. I found this family run restaurant to be friendly and clean and they could make a fortune if they added a tap with Manny's.

Food pricey and not very good. Right-wing propaganda posted everywhere. Offensive to everyone who can read.

I think I'm reviewing the right place . . . this place seems to have more names than Washington has ferries.  I'm nearly certain it's the right place based on the pictures, but why so many names??

I didn't find it to be as bad as everyone else seems to think it is, but that's not saying much.  Yes, the prices are high, but they're about what I expected.  You're dealing with a restaurant on the island that has a nearly captive audience that can't take their cars out of the ferry lines.  This is what happened to us.  It probably would have been better to go to the other place, but it is what it is.  So, it gets a three star on the price (expected for the island, but still trying to gouge the tourists).

The food was fine, but nothing special.  The crab cake sandwich I had was very bland and clearly just purchased frozen from Sysco or some similar distributor (if it wasn't, you need to improve your recipes).  It did the job, though.  So, again, three stars here.

The service was fine, but not good.  Again, three stars.

The only thing that brought the review down to two stars was the . . . decor?  There was a whole corner of the restaurant dedicated to crazy right-wing propaganda.  There are two things wrong with this.  One, you're running a business.  Your business is not the place for pushing your political beliefs.  When I spend money, I know there's a good chance that I'm giving my money to someone that may disagree with me.  I don't mind disagreements, but I don't need it shoved in my face.  Two, your propaganda was so extreme that I felt I was giving money to someone that flat out hates me.  There's a difference between being left or right and being extremely left or right.  I wouldn't have stayed if I noticed this before I ordered.

This is a great location for a restaurant.  I'm sure it's not easy to survive here, given that it's not busy year round, but it would be best suited for someone more deserving of running a restaurant here.

Slow service, ok ice cream and coffee drinks. But a but pricey. When your stuck in orcas village you need to cool off, it does the trick.

This place gets one star fort he view and bunnies for entertainment!
My grilled chicken san was alright my salad was overgrown with too many other veggies, hubby had fish n chowder which was pretty small portions for the price. Obviously prices are going to be high on an island but theirs was a little outrageous! We ended up going to the grocery store and bought food and dessert. And fyi to the owner: if u want to save money dont use paper products! Its a known fact that using regular dishes and silverware that u wash saves money by eliminating paper waste.
Save yer money and go to the grocery store

A busy, convenient but not particularly special dining experience. We thought it was overpriced e.g. a slice of salmon and a small green salad on a plastic plate is almost $20!

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would...

We stopped by this cafe during our 3 hour ferry wait time on Orcas Island because the menu looked interesting (and also because there were only two dinner options near the ferry terminal): crab cake burger, halibut sandwich, clam strips, calamari, etc. Since we had had a great brunch and late-afternoon snack experience at the Orcas Cafe across the street, we thought Mamie's looked fun to try out.

BIG MISTAKE!! I wish I had read previous reviews on my phone before stepping foot into this terrible place.

Since we weren't super hungry, we decided to share an order of Calamari rings with garlic aioli sauce ($13) and a side of curly fries ($2.99). The interior was pretty shabby (cheap tables/chairs set up in a plain room, albeit with a nice view of the San Juan Islands), but we didn't mind the lackluster decor and crammed line to order our food IF the food was good.  Mamie seemed nice enough; calling everyone "honey" as we inched forward to order/pay in line.

After waiting for 15-20 mins, I heard my name called and was excited to get some juicy calamari after a perfect day out watching orcas whales.  Mamie brought over the plate and I couldn't believe what was in front of me...about ten or so TINY (and I mean less than half the size of my thumb) calamari rings loosely scattered over a wilted romaine lettuce leaf, next to some very ordinary-looking curly fries. Oh, and the garlic aioli sauce was in a small plastic container on the side --- all served on a small styrofoam plate. Did I emphasize enough the word "SMALL"?

I felt pretty ripped off...the calamari rings tasted like something I could make; they were most likely defrosted calamari rings bought at some local store served up for a fat profit @ $13 a plate.  Not even enough calamari to qualify as an appetizer size at most places...

The absolute worst part was when I picked up a curly fry...there was a curly HAIR attached to it.  I thought I was going to gag and throw up at that point.

Anyway, even though we got home really late from a delayed ferry ride and a long drive afterwards, I am staying up just to write this review so that others don't get suckered into Mamie's cafe for a disgusting and upsetting experience :(

My family decided to get something to eat while waiting for the ferry. The food wasnt terrible but it wasnt nothing special either...the prices don't get me started...my wallet is still mad at me for throwing away my money. Highly NOT recommended.

$34 for an crab omelet, two sides of sausage, a side of hash browns, tea and coffee. Outrageous when the food is no better than something you would get from McDonald's. The sausage tasted very processed, which you could tell before the first bite - it was very thin and uniform in shape. Tasted like cardboard. The hash browns were the same kind you get at McD's. Omelet had a crab cake that was chopped up and inside it, so a lot of breading and filler and very little crab.

A better option while waiting for the ferry. Go into the Orcas Market and buy food there. They have a great deli and sandwich collection, plus you have other options for snacks since it's a grocery store.

This restaurant is on ORCAS island not San Juan island. It is near the ferry landing for Orcas and across the street from the Orcas hotel. After noticing it for years we finally stopped by for breakfast since we arrived on Orcas too early for our appointment in Eastsound. Yes it is on the water side of the street so it has a clear view of the water and Shaw island nearby. That's all you can say good about this place. The decor is early nothing. The chairs are rickety. The food is expensive and quite tasteless. This was I'm sure the only time we'll stop by this place. Nothing here to ever draw us back again.

Stopped here today for a beer while waiting for the inter-island ferry back to Lopez after a really long and taxing bike ride.  The place is a dump -- the entire seating area (in the middle under the soiled white ceiling coverings) was dirty and grimy.  The tables (I looked at several in trying to find a suitable seat) had food remnants on them, as did the entire floor.  The place is filled with cheap and rundown furniture.

There are signs all over the place (including stuck to the middle of every table) telling you not to play games, cards or use your computer.  I understand them wanting to preserve tables for customers who are eating or enjoying a beverage, but it's a small place and I would imagine that a gentle nudge to hangers-on would present a friendlier atmosphere.

The bottled beer was fine -- can't speak to their food (and can honestly say I likely won't ever be able to). It's just too bad this place isn't kept up better as apart from the Orcas Hotel (which also looks like it's seen better days and was overrun with a wedding party today) it's the only place to get a drink while waiting for the ferry.  We chose to ride the ferry for an hour and half (killing time) rather than sit at this place and have anything else to drink or anything to eat.

This little spot on the water is right by the ferry dock, so it is very convenient when waiting to back to Seattle. SUPER CASUAL, plastic chairs and tables (sometimes NOT clean), ketchup packet, kind of place - with a beautiful water view.

Mamie actually took our order, so it is home-owned. She told us she has had the place for 30 years. Also, she has a 4-room property there if you are looking for a place to stay.

Back to the food...you walk up to the counter and order, then you can have a seat in the eating area that overlooks the water. The menu is full of fried 'fish n chips' type items - fried oysters, fried calamari, fried clams, fried shrimp, fried cod, fried halibut, french fries...you get the 'fridea.' We tried the fried cod and fried oysters. You get one side, either French fries (note, they are curly), salad or coleslaw. We went with a salad and French fries (we are a couple...we SHARE THINGS!). Prices are steep - $14.95 for the fried halibut (three REALLY small pieces) with one side. And, if you want 2 sides, say coleslaw with your French fries -$4.95. For coleslaw? But, this is an island and overall food prices are at least 1/3 higher than in Seattle.  The side salad was oddly quiet good - with romaine lettuce, large tomato slices, chopped olives, chopped red onion and a little cheese. The bad - no choice of dressing, it just came with nasty ranch dressing in a fast food, pre-made packet. Finally, we did have a cup of the clam chowder - thick and tasty, but on the cool side. Not sure what was up with that...

Mamie's does have wine, beer and a full bar. Take note, Mamie will only serve 2 drinks per person.

Our grand total, are you sitting down...$35 for chowder, cod with fries and oysters with salad. We had the tap water - no drinks. Ouch!!!

One cool thing not to miss, off of the seating area is a gate that leads to a nice little yard with lawn furniture - be sure to check it out. No children allowed there. SWEET!  ;-)

Very clean overall and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Even with a 2 star, I would visit Miss Mamie again.
