Its a great space, but i'm not a fan of their coffee...
It tastes just like my Taster's Choice instant coffee.
But this is a good place to hangout with friends and play a game of chess!
A very cute Hollister hangout spot.

Stopped in on the way thru town to have a coffee and grab some wi-fi. Perfect place to stop. Big windows looking out on San Benito St. traffic. The staff was very courteous and the other customers seemed to be enjoying the relaxed environment.

Came here during my lunch break and the place was absolute crickets. If this coffee shop was located in any other town other than Hollister it would surely be packed.

The setting is beautiful. Located on the corner of an old fashioned block of downtown Hollister, large windows wrap the whole outside of the building. Great for people watching. The greater part of the inside (which is very large) is filled with vintage couches and chairs, tables and bookcases. Local art and decor help create a wonderful feeling of closeness and community. A stage set on one side of the shop is set with a full sound system and is ready for full band concerts (Live music on Saturdays).

    The beverages.
Simple menu and a nice clean bakery case. I enjoyed a soy spiced chai. Made perfectly. Plenty of choices available and all reasonably priced. Quite a contrast from the local Starbucks located a few miles down the road.
I can't wait to go back. I am a usually a drip coffee only fan, so next time I will be trying that. Prices are fair.

Only issue is that they are not open at all in Sunday.  ???

If ever lost in this farm town, take a quick break and grab a java from this honest local shop.

I really like this place. The atmosphere is neat. Never seen a coffee shop with a lounge type layout until this place. They have a lot of couches and table and chairs. Very spacious. I like how they support local bands, and how they have certain nights dedicated to letting local bands play there. My boyfriend always gets their chai, and he loves it. He prefers Mars Hill chai over Starbucks or Peets. I always get their Zoom coffee and it is very flavorful. Hope this place stays around a long while!

Solid choice. Good ambiance for coffee culture mentality. The opposite of Starbuck's.
Relaxed feel with plenty of natural light and tables for working as well as cozy couches for lounging and catching up.

I have just started really going to Mars Hill because we meet our teacher here for home school meetings. I love the atmosphere with the mis-matched furniture and comfy couches. The coffee prices are a steal compared to the chain places and they have the BEST homemade scones!!

Downsides: There aren't any partitions in the cafe part so if a group of kids are in there or people are playing music it might be hard to have a discussion/ teacher meeting/ book club etc.

And they don't make the scones on weekends.

I am finding that I frequent this place to sit and visit more than at 'Bucks...

This Coffee House is amazing!  They are non profit, and let any community group use their conference room or seating areas for meetings.  I picked up a couple carafes of coffee for a fund raiser I was going to, and everyone standing out in the cold with me loved the coffee, it was a big hit!  Support our community, ditch the chain coffee houses, and come here.

Let me start by saying it's a pretty nice place. Very spacious and great for entertainment. However, the service is not so great. I was practically ignored for 5 minutes while coffee was made for the patron ahead of me. As a manager in retail I'd like to teach the teeny-boppers behind the counter 5 very important words: I'll be right with you.
I was looking forward to trying my favorite, (Iced Chai Latte) but it was horrible! I pretty much payed $3 for flavored milk.
They get one star for decor, but nothing for goods or service. I'll stick with Starbucks, at least they smile!

Good coffee. Good people. Great - to- Excellent Service every-time. Huge sitting area. Street parking is usually available which helps when you need to run in quickly.

They standout to me because they bake their own cookies in house, with their own dough and those little suckers are GOOD!

A cute little coffee house in the middle of Hollister.  It's a non-profit run by volunteers.  At night they have shows in this huge space.  The staff are really nice and the coffee is okay.  If you are looking for coffee in Hollister, be sure to stop by here and skip the Starbucks.

This place is great!  Lots of comfortable places to sit unlike Starbucks.  FRIENDLY staff and omg try out the Mars Hill Cookie..To die for!
I could do without all the obnoxious teens but then again there is absolutely no where in this town for kids to hang out.  Bravo to Mars Hill for making this a place for everyone..yes even those obnoxious teens!

Great coffeehouse! Came in from out of town and needed a comfortable place to get some work done on the computer. Free wi-fi, relaxed atmosphere and great coffee made this the perfect place. Love the eclectic decor and spacious floor plan, too.

Staff was great, books and board games on the shelves, comfortable seating (couches, tables/chairs, lounge areas) and the coffee was very good.

Not many coffeehouses have a stage, PA system and a house drum set! Wish they were closer to me!

Highly recommend if you are in the area and want to relax, talk and enjoy some hot beverages.

I've been studying here for a week now.  I enjoy the relatively quiet atmosphere and the great hot chocolates.  There is a lots of space and I can find a quiet area near the windows, so I don't feel like I'm back in a cubicle..

Sometimes it can get a little loud when the local HS is let out, but overall I like it.  They offer free internet, but it can be spotty during the day.

Simply stated:  It is nice to have another coffee place in town besides Starbucks.

I hope this business can stay in business, as I see many in downtown have closed.  I have been there about five times, and have noticed about 1/3 of the people there look like they are just there to hang out on the couch, not buying anything.  Mostly teens looking for somewhere to go besides home.

That stated, they do have nice comfortable seating, so can you really blame the kids?

They do have a nice meeting room that we have used to hold our meetings for a non-profit group I am invovled in.

Hours are limited, closing early on Sundays and closed on and around the holidays.

My wife and I like to support local coffee shops whenever possible so we stopped in on our way through Hollister. Place is huge for a coffee shop. Stage for bands. Friendly baristas.  Decent coffee.  Nice comfortable setting with lots of space. If we lived in the area we would probably come hang out here all the time.

I believe in supporting local businesses.  But I will NOT support Mars Hill.  The "barista" I dealt with on 8/20 was unbelievably rude.  She had the disposition of a badger and had no idea how to deal with customers.  After I purchased my three drinks, I noticed a young lady to my right approach and ask for an application.  As someone who is re-entering the work force after being wife and mother for 20 years, I thought what a cool place this would be to work!  WRONG!  I asked the "barista" behind the counter for the application.  At which point she gave me a scathing up and down look and asked rudely "Is this for YOU?"  I said yes and then she asked me "What do you know about being a barista?" To which I replied "Well, I make my family's coffee every morning.  Does that count?"  Another scathing look from her and she handed over the app.  I proceeded to fill it out on the spot and then handed it over to her.  As the days went by I realized there is no way I would work in a place that treats their customers so shabbily so I went back and tried to get my app back.  The same "barista" was there (about 18, dark hair with red streaks, heavy black eyeliner) and was less than willing to help again.  As I stated that I wanted to retrieve my app she replied "God! OK!  I'll tell the manager!"  The "manager" is always conveniently gone.  I finally spoke to him on the phone this afternoon and explained what had happened.  He could have cared less.  He made no attempt to keep me, or my family, as customers.  He made no apologies.  It's very sad because Hollister needs an establishment (properly run) like this.  I, however, will not set one toe in this place nor will my family and friends and I shall discourage everyone I know from going there.

If outstanding coffee and great service is what you're looking for, go to Vertigo Coffee in San Juan Bautista, CA.  Just a hop, skip and jump from Hollister.

Just stopped in Hollister for lunch and got a coffee and cookie here after but what a great looking place.  People playing chess, working on laptops, writing together, chatting quietly on couches and tables with  tons of space.  Looks like a very comfortable place to relax and socialize.  If I were local I'd be here all the time.  Coffee was good, cookie was excellent and service was very friendly.

Only place in Hollister to get a phenomenal cream soda. They even make them with soy! Double points there :)

    Favorites so far:

    Dark Chocolate and Mint
    Vanilla and Mint
    Strawberry Lime
    and Melon

Ask your barrista to add more soda than milk for an extra fizz party in your mouth.

Decor: Thumbs up to supporting local artists. Very spacious and love the couches.

Toys for the kids, chessboards, a stage for live bands...This place out-does any coffee shop in San Benito County. I hope MHC will stick around for good.

This place is way too cool to be in a one-horse town like Hollister. Mars Hill has one of the warmest and most welcoming vibes I've ever felt in any coffee shop, and lives up to that every time I go there.

The staff are amazing, and always take your order with a smile and a friendly joke or two. They're patient, which I'm thankful for whenever I take five minutes just to decide which on their extensive list of flavors I want in my frappucino. The seating - often mismatched, vintage furniture - is comfortable, and there's plenty of it, whether you want to sit at a table, or on a squishy, cozy couch. Often times the staff will even tell you to go ahead and sit down while they make your drink, and they'll bring it out to you when it's ready. In the meantime, you can set up a game of chess or checkers at one of the tables by the window (board built into the table, and pieces provided in the drawers), or break out one of the classic board games (Scrabble, anyone?) they have in one of the cabinets. Or, if you brought your laptop or iPhone, you can even access the free wifi they have there.

Mars Hill looks beautiful, too, with the warm paint and wood tones, beautiful wooden level, and soft but sufficient lighting. And the bathroom is great! Clean, with a nice sink and good soap, not that cheap pink stuff most places have. They have the Softsoap type, in scents like Pink Grapefruit, or Vanilla Blackberry.

The coffee is good, and they have a ton of flavors you can add in. Smoothies are excellent, and again, well-varied. I also strongly recommend the hot chocolate. I haven't tried the tea (I think they have tea), or the pastries/snacks, but they look pretty delicious.

Within the last month or two, they've started having entertainment on several of the evenings, with local bands coming to play a venue that's a little more personal than the usual, in a good way. Usually on a Friday or Saturday, but it's happened on other days, as well.

Also, if you're a dab hand at photography, or painting, or whatever, talk to the staff - they love to display the work of local artists on their walls. :)

Mars Hill is great! Finally something for people to do in hollister that doesn't close at 6! Been here like 5 times already and everytime I've come my drink has tated great.  The place is HUGE! and when theres live bands playing people STILL have to walk around looking for chairs. Oh and also the live bands sound good and they dont sound horible.  I'm hoping that it doesn't go out of business like most other hollister restaurants. but so far it looks like it won't.

If you have not gone you need to go!

Okay, so the place is awesome. I mean HUGE! Plenty of great places to sit and hang out. Definitely a cool place for groups and young people. The coffee is so so though, unfortunately. But I will make it a habit to go there and relax every once in a while. The building and ambiance really is great. Just need to improve the coffee.

A comfortable place to hang out in Hollister. They're just getting started, so it's a little quiet. The manager says they will soon have entertainment. The coffee is good, they have free wi-fi and kids are welcome!
