I've been to Mavis Winkle's a few times before, but it had been several years so I didn't really remember much from my previous visits. Â Went today with a large group (12) from work for lunch. Â Our server was nice, but too chatty for my liking. Â Overall service was pretty slow considering how empty the restaurant was. Â Took a really long time to get waters and refills. Â I ordered the salmon boxty, but was brought the salmon burger. Â The waiter was gracious about his mistake and offered to correct it, but since I was one of the last to get my food and several people were already halfway through their lunches, I didn't want to wait any longer and ate the burger. Â It was not bad, but pretty bland. Â Would be better with a mustard or more flavorful sauce than the dill/sour cream that comes with it. Â I had the sweet potato mashed as a side, and they were also just ok. Â It was very sweet and had some type of crumble topping, more like a dessert than a side. Â Had I known that, I would have ordered something else. Â It is nice that you get a choice of side with the sandwiches, rather than just automatically getting fries or upcharged for a substitute. Â I didn't hear any complaints about the food from anyone else, but I wouldn't necessarily expect to at a work function anyway. Â
I wouldn't refuse to eat here again, and there are probably better things on the menu than what I had. Â But I wouldn't mind if I never ate here again either.
I like this place-the food is ok but that's not what really makes the place it is the service and drinks. This is an Irish Pub the Irish food is the only thing worth ordering off the menu. Don't try to be different here. I can not say enough good things about the service... the people are soo nice, relaxed and accommodating. My brother in law got married on St. Pattys day this p[ast year and the rehearsal was here the night before...we had a blast!!!
