This is our hangout in Fall River Mills. Â Jan and Andrew are great hosts and always make us feel at home. Â My son even has his own "the usual" lunch or dinner. Â It is the place to stop in for a beer and a chat, good onion rings and burgers, pool and entertainment. Â This place is part of the spirit of the town. Â Definitely check it out.
Review Source:Fantastic find in Fall River Mills! Â Spent the afternoon chatting and drinking beer with Andrew and Jan. Â Couldn't be better! The gorgonzola burger was the best I've had in awhile. The beer was amazingly cold and the "real deal" onion rings were amazing. Â We were in Fall River Mills for 2 nights and ate at several places - Mayfly was by far the best. Infact, we stopped by for a beer after going to another restaurant for dinner. Â Andrew is always looking for entertainers for Saturday nights - the party starts at 8:00. Â Mayfly is not to be missed if you are in the area.
Review Source:We stopped in here on our way from Lava Beds to Lassen, looking for ice cream, but stayed for dinner. We were two vegetarians and one fish eater--we were all able to eat a good dinner. Our fish eater was pleased with the clam chowder. Not the strongest vegan menu, but one could get by, but several vegetarian options.
We were the only people there when we arrived. We found Andrew a friendly and helpful proprietor, and clearly Jen can cook. While we were eating, a man and his daughter came in who clearly came by often. Mom showed up a bit later, and they sat around chatting with Andrew and Jen for a while. Seems like a good contribution to the neighborhood :-)
I'd say Ken K. and Laura F. wrote accurate reviews (although I can't write about the music since we were there at "dinner time" on a Sunday night, and I didn't get the sense you'd be looked down on for ordering a microbeer).
I always feel odd about giving four stars to "regular" restaurants--I would say that the Mayfly Pub is making no attempt to be a "five star" restaurant, but I'd also say they deserve five stars for doing what they do well.
This is the first bar you see on your left when pulling into town if you're driving eastbound on 299. This cute bar was recently (6 years qualifies for "recently" up here) purchased by two 'retired' hippy flatlander baby-boomer's that fell pray to the romantic temptation of owning a local bar in a small country town.
In my opinion they do a pretty good job. Although the locals have been slow to accept them, they're friendly, provide great service, cheap Bud Light, and most of all put on a great performance every Saturday night with live music. The show starts at 8pm and normally consists of X, the owner, playing his plugged in acoustic and singing 60's hits. See? Hippy's. Â Sometimes his wife joins in. It's fun. Its feels small-town. It's the most entertaining thing to do in this town on a Saturday night that doesn't include methamphetamine.
They do not have a hard-alcohol license. To sip on some Jack, head to The Fall River Hotel's bar across the street and around the corner.
Expect to be eyed up-and-down upon your entry. Smile, proceed to bar, and order a Bud. NOT a foreign beer, bad Flatlander!
