McGrath's

I've been coming to Mcgraths since I was in college. The food has been consistent, but the decor needs a little updating. Service was good and the prices were what you would expect for a steak place. Overall they have done a good job at maintaining their standards.

Every once in awhile you find that time does indeed seem to stand still. Walking into McGrath's, with it's wood paneled walls, forty year old wooden chairs and dead pheasants used as wall decor, is like stepping back to a time when restaurants focused only on food, not decor. And this place is special. Pam McGrath seems to be everywhere to make sure your dining or bar experience is what you would expect: high quality food prepared simply and perfectly, attentive and speedy service, and a complete restaurant/pub experience with a well stocked bar and full desert menu. Tables are close, facilitating the creation of new friendships in the dimly lit dining and bar areas.  The servers are knowledgeable and helpful, and the food fresh and fabulous.  The crowd is older, of course, given the decor, but I love it.

The food is mediocre at best and the decor is tacky and dumpy.

My fillet was cut thin, overcooked, over-salted, and overpriced. At $22 for 8 ounces of beef tenderloin, I expect a quality cut and careful attention to temperature, especially in such a low-volume establishment.

Bottom line: The food OK, but not worth the price. I won't go back, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
