My tuna was served well done which is unacceptable for tuna! Â My kids fries were raw on the inside. Â Asked for a cheeseburger for my son and we were served a hamburger. Â Waiter said it was a hamburger on the menu. Â I told him I specifically ordered a cheeseburger. Â Took them another 5-10 minutes to rectify.
Review Source:The ambiance and atmosphere is great, but the service and food was poor. The Eggs Benedict was served without H. Sauce, essentially making it standard eggs with a grocery store English muffin. The mermaid salad was tasty but minuscule. The frittata was standard fare, though the goat cheese was wonderful. Generally the waitress was attentive but not overly pleasant. Not worth the money.
Review Source:Have had lunch here before, which was good. Ambiance is excellent. Very noisy place when busy.We came for supper an hour and a half before a concert. When ordering the appetizer I wanted to go ahead and order our meal also. The waitress wanted to place the order for the appetizer only at that time. Our drinks and appetizer were brought out quickly. The waitress came back about 15 minutes later to take the order for supper. We sat and talked and talked and at 25 minutes before the concert I asked the waitress about our meal and our salads were brought out about 10 minutes later. This also was the only time she refilled our drinks. Finally I talked to the manager and he checked and said the meal would not be ready in time. The service and organization of the restaurant seems to be a major problem here.
Review Source:We were visiting family and we wanted to take them out for a nice dinner. Â But unfortunately this did not happen. Â To start off with we were told to seat ourselves and get our own menus. Â We then ordered an appetizer for the table after about 25 minutes it had not arrived yet and we were told there was a problem with the oven. Â The waitress offered to bring out bread since my 9 year old was hungry. Â About 20 minutes later salad came out, still no appetizer or bread. Â When I asked the waitress if she was going to bring bread she snapped at me and said I am getting it. Â About 10 minutes after the salad came then the appetizer came along with part of the tables dinner, this was not ok. Â Then about 15 minutes later all the food except for my 9 year olds dinner came out. Â We were all just sitting waiting for my child's food when the waitress came over and asked if dinner was good, I asked where my child's food was and again she snapped at me and said it was on its way. Â It took over an hour and a half to get all of us our food. Â The food was good but it was truly not worth all the aggravation we were put thru. Â After all of this we expected the waitress to be apologetic and offer desert on the house or at least take the appetizer off the bill, but no neither was offered. Â I found the staff to be curt and unhelpful, it is really bad form to not bring the child's food out first or at least at the same time as everyone else's food. Â My poor daughter ended up eating half of my dinner before her food even came out and I went home hungry. Â When visiting family we will not come here again.
Review Source:Passing through Danville, I stopped here because of all the good reviews. The place is indeed cute, and has a creative menu. But here's the thing: if I pay $13 for a salad (with goat cheese and beets--no meat) I expect it to be big. I got a paltry salad which still left me hungry. On the menu, it was advertised on arugula, and it came to me on spring mix. No, not a huge deal, but the arugula was part of the reason I ordered it.
Mermaid's seems like it fills a niche in Danville, and I hope it stays around. But really, drop the prices. My salad was worth $6, max.
A+ for atmosphere. Â An old charming house turned into a cozy and modern dining facility. Â Great live music on Friday nights. Unique shop inside with hand painted items.
The service was fairly unorganized. Â A few of the servers asked us if we were ready to order drinks and order food. Â It seemed that no one knew who was supposed to be taking care of our table. Â No one ever brought us the water we asked for and they almost gave us the wrong food.
The food was below average. Â My plate came out barely warm. Â As a steak connoisseur, the ribeye did not meet my expectations. Â The champagne shrimp pasta that my friend got was dry and very fishy tasting.
I dined at Mermaids on March 26 with a group of friends from out of town and was highly disappointed with the experience overall. Â We arrived around 7 to a not-very-crowded restaurant, and were promptly seated by the hostess. Â That's where the good review ends. Â Our server was not only unpleasant, but downright rude. Â Her attitude was one of complete disdain, for no apparent reason. Â When inquiring about beers on tap, the server had no clue about the selection, and the beer menu is not descriptive, at best. Â Having seen a sign outside the front door for a very appetizing potato soup, each of us ordered as either a serving as either our entree or an addition to our meal. Â 10 minutes after ordering, our server returned to inform us they were out of the soup. Â Understandable, small restaurant, it happens, but there was no alternative offered. Â We were told they had been out since lunch...ever heard of forecasting?
Having to then revisit the ordering process, we inquired about the specials. Â I was confused to find fettucine and meatballs priced at $21 (and a salmon salad at $18 for that matter). Â The justification for the price of the pasta dish was that it came with a side salad. Â Myself and one other ordered the shrimp fried rice, which we found not only drowned in soy sauce and therefore unsettlingly salty, but also "under-shrimped" (we each received 5 medium-sized shrimp atop an earnest bed of rice). Â Someone else ordered the half sandwich/half soup (which ended up being a salad as there was no soup to speak of), and received 1/4 chicken breast on 2 measly pieces of what appeared to be starved sourdough bread. Â The ribeye sandwich, while appetizing and garnering no taste or portion complaints, did not come with a steak knife and was difficult to consume. Â
The prices were median for somewhere like Lexington, a little high for Danville, and a LOT high for the quality and quantity. Â As an aside, you must nearly walk through the kitchen to reach the restrooms, and steel yourself for an ice-cold handwashing (unless there was just a hot water mishap that day). Â I will absolutely not be returning to this establishment, nor will I recommend any of my family or friends to patronize there. Â While the atmosphere is unique and certainly fills a niche, the entire experience left much to be desired. Â We did, however, appreciate the owner/manager stopping by to check in with us mid-meal, even if we didn't have much positive feedback to share.
