Great spot for food and drink in Sandpoint. I've been twice, had a different burger each time and loved loved loved the handcut fries. Burgers were great as well.
I'm a sucker for huckleberry-anything when I'm in Northern Idaho or Northwest Montana so knocked back a few huckleberry blondes each time.
I'll come back here any time I'm in Sandpoint.
We came here based on other reviews. The beer was just "ok" nothing to write home about, then the food, chicken strip and Irish nachos; again nothing to write home about. For bar I was surprised they didn't offer the chicken strips buffalo style and the nachos weren't that great. The bar itself inside was cozy and I imagine this would be a fun place to hang out during a big game or with a group of friends,
Review Source:MickDuff's was recommended to us by the unbelievable great staff at Schweitzer Mtn. I'm glad they did because it was just what we wanted after a day of skiing. I'd go back to MickDuff's when I'm in Sandpoint again, but we did have a few kinks the night we went.
Our server was also acting as bartender, so service was a little haphazard. The server was apologetic, but we did wait a while before anyone came by and had to flag down a different server to put our food order in. Not the end of the world, but it seemed like one of the dedicated servers could have handled our table with their others.
We opted for the beer flight. Lot's of tastes for a great price! I wasn't at all wild about their lagers, but once we got into the darker and more bitter stuff (stouts, porters, IPAs) the tasting got better. I really enjoyed their seasonal stoat stout.
We had had a large lunch on the Mtn. so we decided to split some apps and their salad special. We got the teriyaki wings, fries (since we were in Idaho, after all), and the Greek salad. It was all good, nothing mindblowing, but it was tasty and we finished every bit of it.
Regretfully, we didn't have room for dessert, but the homemade root beer float sounded great.
MickDuff's has a really great menu including the cheese soup (super yummy) and the Kobe Brewer's Burger is to die for! Their french fries are made fresh and they are oustanding. Think In N Out fries. They taste similar, so fresh!
Sometimes the service isn't so great, it totally depends on who you get. I've had outstanding service and then days when I think we won't be back becuase it sucked so much. It's random but the food is good. It's a bit pricey too so we don't go as much and the owners really keep to themselves. They never acknowledge you, say thanks or check in. Ever. It would be nice if they were had more of presence in the restaurant and not just there making beer. Overall it's a wonderful addition to Sandpoint.
This quirky  little local watering hole instantly became my favorite microbrewery.  So many great brews on tap and so good...but you can only get it there, it's not bottled.  Staff and locals were super friendly and made visiting this gem all the more pleasurable.  I loved the Brown Ale so much that I bought a $36 stainless steel growler and had it filled with that brew for safe transport back to Kalispell.  No trip to the Idaho panhandle is complete without a visit to this brewery.
Review Source:I love coming to Mickduff's! Â I love the gorgonzola fries, beer cheese soup and the huge tortellini plate! Â The burgers are always good and the french dip sandwich is good. Â The homemade rootbeer is amazing, but the gluten free beer is like water. Â The atmosphere is great and I would come back any day if I were close.
Review Source:After my previous review I was contacted by the owner and given a gift certificate to see if I would consider going back again. There's a bonus point for customer service right there.
I've since gone back 3 more times and I think I must have hit them on an off day the first time or two I visited. The food is good. It's not mind-blowing or anything along those lines, but my last three visits have been consistently above average food. I especially enjoy the tri-tip dip with gorgonzola fries. I'm still not a huge fan of their beers, but they are all good. The one exception to this is that I had a pale ale on beer gas that was excellent!
Based on my last few visits I can honestly say I'm a fan now and will definitely be eating there again on my next visit to Sandpoint.
KC isn't one to buy merch from breweries, concerts or engage in any other sorta fandom. But this place udderly changed KC.

Add another to the list. GROWLERS. The good people at MickDuff's managed to combine all the things that are right about this world all in one little space. Beer, great burgers, fried potatoes, flat screen TV's and growlers! In case you don't know, a growler is about a half gallon of beer in a refillable brattle.
Is there anything hotter than a lady walking in with a pair of sloshing growlers? KC thinks not. In honor of you, MickDuff, KC bought a hat...to tip...to you, oh master of the malted mammary.
Ordered their Irish Redhead Amber ale.. it was OK. Â I preferred the other couple of beers my friends had (Toehead Blonde and IPA). The best part of this place was their tasty nachos (made with homemade chips!) and the fries. I think this place is a lot more entertaining and hoppin' on the weekends...it was pretty dead on a Tuesday night but still the busiest joint downtown. Worth checking out if you're in SP, though. I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a decent beer and good pub food..
Review Source:We visited on a recent trip to Sandpoint. Food was good, beer was good, and service good. After a bad experience the previous night at another local Restaurant it was a great place to stumble upon. It was also kid friendly and though they were busy we did not feel rushed at all. Â No complaints about food from anyone at the table. I would certainly visit again.
Review Source:We took a day trip to Sandpoint (never been there). We walked up and down the main drag checking out shops and decided to stop at MickDudd's for lunch. That's when things started going down hill and we should have left. The staff walked by us five times without acknowledging us at all! There were two other couples behind us waiting to get in as well. Finally we were taken to a table. No "sorry for the wait" no nada! The food was "OK", nothing special. The whole experience was lackluster and we won't be stopping here again. Evidently they don't value their customers.
Review Source:Great trivia on Tuesday nights. Go early to get a table and make an evening of sipping on beer and answering trivia. The burgers are delicious, especially if you sub a chicken burger (the beef is a bit well done for my taste). Salads are good too. Don't miss the gorgonzola cheese fries...they will FILL you up!
Review Source:Well the first thing I am going to say is I have no idea what the food taste like because I came for the beer.
I started with the Sampler tray which gives you a total of 30oz of beer for 12 dollars. I judged the beer using BJCP guidelines and found that most of the beers were well within industry standards. The beers were well balanced and enjoyable, without being overly-hopped like most Northwest breweries. This is the reason that this brewery has won several national awards for their beers. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the American Lager, which is a difficult style to pull off and still taste good, and I wished that it came in a can because this would be a great beer to take on the river. After making my way through the sampler and having the normal Citra beer on tap, I tried the Citra on cask and this is one not to miss. It's a one hop beer that showcases the flavor and aroma of this hop and would appease most hop-heads.
My mom and I drove to sandpoint from Spokane for the day. We wanted to have lunch and I thought yelp would get us a great restaurant. I thought wrong! The service here was less than great. We seat ourselves which is fair enough, but once seated we sat for a good 10 minutes before being helped. Yelpers raved about the cheese soup, which I ordered. I've had better and it was luke warm. I asked to sample a couple beers and again waited for too long. As I waited I saw our server greet and bring new guests drinks prior to bringing me mine. My mom doesn't yelp, but when I asked how many stars I should give, she responded with 2. I have to agree with my mom!
Review Source:I recently had lunch at MickDuff's the other day and unfortunately was not able to sample any of their brews as I was on business. Â However that said, the food was very good, the waitress I had was very friendly and took great care of me, and the atmosphere was fun and inviting. Â
As a homebrewer myself it was great to talk to Mick and learn a bit about how he got his brewery going. Â I really appreciate it when an owner of a busienss will take a few minutes out of their day to share about their business. Â
I will be back for sure and since this is a place for families I will no problem taking my two kids there too.
Thanks and keep up the great work,
Aaron from Spokane
The good - the food is incredible and the beer is great. From appetizer to dessert, finding something good is no problem.
The bad - the service is awful. This is especially true during trivia on Tuesday nights. I can understand being slow on a busy night, but I cannot understand the servers spending more time standing behind the bar chatting with each other than actually serving. Our server tonight walked right past our table, looking at us and our empty glasses without stopping or saying a word, more than once. This is a common occurrence there, and while it hasn't yet kept me from returning, it has put more and more time in between visits.
Sandpoint, Idaho isn't what most people would consider a vacation hot-spot, but after visiting this summer, I've decided that it should be. The town itself is nestled in one of the most beautiful areas of the county I've been to, and local eateries like Mickduff's make staying there a joy.
We stopped in here after reading the Yelp reviews. The boyfriend will go for pretty much anyplace that does their own brewing, and my sister and her husband were game as well, so we did lunch here on our first day in town. Best idea.
I had the veggie burger, which was delicious and filling, and the accompanying garlic-gorgonzola waffle fries were killer. For drinks, I opted for the Huckleberry Blonde (a blend of their Tipsy Toehead Blonde Ale and local huckleberry puree) and Adam went for their Snakebite (a combo of a hard cider and their Knot Tree Porter). Both were delicious.
On our second visit, we opted just to get a quick snack and some beer, so we went for a large order of the garlic-gorgonzola fries, which everyone loved. This time, I went for the Snakebite and the boyfriend opted for the Bogtrotter, an Irish red ale. Again, no disappointments.
We will definitely be making this a regular spot to visit when we head to Idaho again to see the family. And big ups to Yelp's Android app for pointing us in their direction!
This was a welcome surprise.. an $8 sandwich full of bbq roast beef, bacon, carmelized onions on wheat toast with fries, and a homemade root beer! They also have a large selection of beers that I heard were good.
This place was surprisingly gourmet for a brewery. Â They even had free WiFi (perfect for me to write this review!)
Stopped in for a very early dinner with my better half and our toddler and newborn. Partner in crime had the kobe steak sandwich and I had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich with a side of their famous beer cheese soup instead of fries. The toddler had grilled cheese; the newborn had nothing because babies don't eat solid food.
The sandwich was predictably huge and very tasty, while the soup was much better than I expected (mostly because I had trouble imagining how beer and cheese could be heated and combined in a soup) and actually quite delicious. My husband seemed to enjoy his sandwich very much and the kid loved his grilled cheese and the very, very, very salty (but fresh and obviously hand-cut) fries that came with it.
The service was outstanding and the ambience was casual and cozy. I'm not a sports fan and could do without the massive television screens everywhere, but hey, it's a pub. Watching sports with beer and ridiculously fattening food is what pubs are all about. This pub happens to be very kid-friendly, so that's a huge plus now that we're square parents and have to think about that kind of thing.
MickDuff's is a good place to know about and I'm excited to go back and try some of their specialty brews someday. The food is good, the service is better, and it's fun to look at the beer-making setup they have going on while you wait. It's definitely worth a stop on a cold winter night.
I don't know how many times I've walked by Mickduff's over the years, glanced at the brewing vessels in the window, then peered into the main dining room, then went "Meh" and kept walking. Â This was compounded by the less than favorable things I'd heard things about their food and service from people I trust and respect. Â However, encouraged by the relatively high Yelpitude it has garnered I resolved to give it a shot on this visit and I'm certainly glad I did.
The service: Â In three visits over the course of a week and a half, we had three different servers and they were all friendly, prompt, and didn't leave us hanging, even when our baby started fussing. (Added bonus for those with young 'uns: it's family-friendly).
The food: We got two of our meals to go due to the aforementioned fussy baby, so it wasn't exactly hot off the grill by the time we got back to our place, but the burgers I had were prepared nicely and had plenty of tasty toppings. Â The cordon bleu burger was probably my favorite, although the portabello swiss burger gave it a run for its money. Â The gorgonzola fries are worth the extra money if you can eat them fresh out of the fryer, but they don't travel well.
The beer: Â Surprisingly tasty! Â Maybe I was expecting something less than what I got, but I found their beer to be fresh and generally above average. Â Both of their IPAs, "regular" and organic options, had distinct, unique hop characters and plenty of body to make me happy. Â I went with the sampler on one visit, and in general their selections range from average to quite tasty. Â I can see myself happily bellied up to the bar here for a good afternoon session, watching sports on the tubes and quaffing some pints.
Even though I've missed out on several years of experiencing Mickduff's, I'm happy to now add it to my Sandpoint rotation for future visits.
I was really looking forward to this place based upon the reviews. Â My son and I went for trivia night. Â We arrived about 30 minutes early, and could not get a table. Â People were camped. Â We ended up sitting at one of the two tables outside. Â The waitress was not the most friendly person. Â And service was incredibly poor. Â It took exactly 45 minutes from ordering until our food was served. Â Waitress said that's the way it is on trivia night, which I thought was pretty lame. Â If that's the way it is on trivia night, the owner should get some extra staff for trivia night. Â If I had known that's the way it is on trivia night, I wouldn't have gone!
Review Source:o  Driving through cool little town on way to Canada:  CHECK.
o  Huckleberry Beer:  CHECK (Oh yeah!)
o  Yummy burger and fries:  CHECK
This might be a first for me in my storied Yelp history: Â I'm Yelping the place while I'm eating, drinking, & experiencing the place (yes, this place has wifi). Â
So, it's huckleberry season!! (My hands were purple-ed & I gorged on some while hiking yesterday) Â So, while driving up to Canada, I made a pitstop in Sandpoint, ID---I'd always wanted to stop in this cool looking town. Â And here at Mickduff's I saw: Â "huckleberry blonde" Â So the beverage choice was easy.
The huckleberry blonde was actually pretty tasty. Â Some fruity beers toy with claiming the flavor of a fruit. Â This beer had the taste of huckleberry (and you could actually see some of the purple sedimentary goodness at the bottom of your glass). Â Yesterday I was high on huckleberries while hiking in the mountains. Â Today, I was able to partially relive that euphoria with this brew.
The burger was tasty. Â I opted to not have the jalapeno. Â Most of the meal, I had to do my best to not look like a slob---ketchup, guacamole--was all over the place. Â I managed to be 007...Mr. Smooth. Â
Tried out their Nitrogen Porter. Â Couldn't finish that bad boy since I had to hit the road and head into Cannuck land. Â All in all, this was an excellent last meal before leaving the US!
Note: Â just paid for my meal & hit the "Post" button on this review. Â Crazy!
MickDuff's interior is one large rectangle with wooden poles supporting arches supporting the roof in a long line in front of the bar. There are three televisions for watching sports, seating for about 100 and the entire wall behind the bar is a giant chalk board. It feels like a neighborhood bar, but a very nice one. It pulls off the clean-cut, local brewpub feel just about as well as anywhere I've ever been.
The menu is pretty standard brewpub fare. They seem to specialize in burgers, as you can choose from regular beef, a half pound of kobe beef, a six-ounce chicken breast, black bean burger or portabella mushroom cap. The choices of toppings are pretty standard. They also feature a garlic Gorgonzola cheese in many of their dishes. For example, typical, seasoned waffle fries are spruced up with the cheese's addition. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch.
All of their beers are very, very solid. I would gladly order every single one again. That being said, nothing really jumped up and screamed, "Drink me again!" But after a flight, I chose the Pale Ale as my favorite.
Light - nearly translucent in color, thin foam around edge, surprisingly crisp and refreshing. Cross between a Pils like a Becks and a quality American light lager. I'd order it again, believe it or not.
Blonde - hoppy for a blonde, low taste profile to begin, finishes slightly sweet. Yellow in color, thin head, below average but probably good on a hot day. I'd go for the light over it, though. Scratch that, it's better than the light. Further tastings bring a fuller, richer, sweet taste to bear from the beginning.
Wheat - served with an orange instead of a lemon, which I like. Low flavor profile. Nice finish. Strong hints of clove and banana near the end. Smooth and very quaffable.
Pale - Very solid. Well balanced. Smooth all the way through with just enough hops to give it a punch. Slight bitter taste lingers after. Very well done.
Irish Amber - Fairly average. Strong hop aftertaste. Not too sweet up front. Solid but not outstanding.
IPA - Almost too much up front bitterness, but not quite. People who love hops will like this beer. It doesn't quite have the full complexity/floral notes that I enjoy in a massively hopped IPA, but it's close. I've definitely had worse. And the lingering hop taste isn't too bad.
The service was nice and friendly. Promptly served and left alone while I cruised the internet. No hurry to get out.
"The beer arrives. 9 samplers to quench my thirst. Nine delicious, small cups of libation set out on the wood table before me. My spirits are high but that might be due to the fact I am not near the pile of wood, cement, and insects that make up my fathers house.
Am I drinking to celebrate? Not sure. Am I drinking because operating with a buzz is a lot easier then dealing with reality outright sober? No, not a chance. One thing is sure I'm liking the weather."
If I lived in Sandpoint, I would be a fixture here. Â As it is, I'm merely a part-time mascot.
Beer: great micros on tap, all solidly crafted. Â The IPA's (yes they usually have TWO hop bombs on tap at once!) both pack ample hop-wallup. Â If you're not into craft brews, they have some lighter offerings that can probably please even the pussiest of pussies (you).
Food: Very good! Â I would call it restraunt food, "pub food" or "bar food" is an insult. Â Gorgonzola is prominently featured in many items which is very appreciated by yours truly (come to think of it...a lot of Northern Idaho do that...why is this?) Â The Ahi is top notch, as is the steak, and the steak salad. Â Burgers come in multiple forms (black bean, beef, buffalo, etc), so there are multiple flavor combos to be had.
This is a great place to unwind after a day on the lake/mountains. Â The only time I don't come here after an exhaustive hike are Sundays, they close a bit too early (I head to Eichardt's instead).
Solid brewpub. Real solid.
Average bar food. Nothing too mind bending or overwhelming, but your normal cast of favorites. Fish and chips. Salads. Chicken strips. Burgers and steaks are cooked very conservatively, so order medium-rare if you want medium, raw if you want rare.
Great micro-brews. Try the Huckleberry Blonde for a local/unique brew that comes out looking like a cross between a beer and a frothy pint of jello. The (non-alcoholic) Root Beer is also very refreshing in float form or straight-up.
Biggest draw to Mickduffs? Tuesday night Trivia night!
I'm not talking fancy electronic scoring/answer pads either. Pen and paper. Seven rounds of gut wrenching, brain wracking, trivia madness. Free beer bonus questions, and pride points for the winner. Â Come early on trivia night. The seats fill up fast!
