Midori Sushi and Martini Lounge

Okay yes it is very exciting that Mt P finally has a sushi restaurant.  But this one is pretty meh.  Service was really bad (although we were there at an off time, late lunch, so probably not their A game staff).  Sushi was meh - didn't taste too fishy or "off" which was a relief, but was really boring, nothing really interesting on the menu and pretty blah when it came.  Cocktails were not bad and I loved our seating - just inside the restaurant but with open doors out into the street.  If you are a sushi fan you're going to be disappointed.

Server was nice, yet a little clueless, and service was ok.  They don't have high chairs, although the server was very nice with our kids.
Food was very pricy for the quality.  Calamari appetizer was good, quite spicy.  Scallops were good, but nothing special.  Sushi rolls were poorly made and not very good.  The Philly roll was made with smoked, not fresh, salmon.  Michigan roll was just ok, lacked any kind of real character.
We had 4 orders of nigri.  The tuna and tobiko were good, the sea bass was very chewy (previously frozen) and the salmon eggs were watery, very fishy and dull.
Maybe this is as good as it gets around central Michigan, but Denver, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, even Wyoming have better sushi for less money.  $130 for two adults and two kids!!!

Not going back, ever . . .

Sushi is one of my favorite foods and I like to make an attempt to try sushi restaurants in the cities I go to. I've been eager to try this local spot since it opened here. I ordered a rainbow roll for takeout today for lunch. The taste was ok but it had this weird texture. It was like a sandy texture among every piece. It kind of ruined the roll for me. I've been eating sushi for years and I've never experienced a texture like this. I was hoping it would be really good since this place has mostly positive reviews in regards to the food and the price is abnormally high for sushi.  I probably won't go back since I'm in the Lansing area often and they have more options.
