I don't usually find myself midway between Farmington and Ste. Genevieve Missouri, but it's nice to know that I can grab a beer and some grub at Midway Bar & Grill. Â I'm not the deer hunter/country boy type, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. Â It's definitely not for everyone, but if you're a culture vulture type and want to see rural Missouri, then this is a great place to check out. Â The walls are lined with an impressive selection of mounted deer, elk, turkeys and various other animals. Â Almost everything inside is made of wood except for maybe the drinking glasses and forks. Â Our visit was on the weekend during lunch time, but I suspect this place would be a lot more fun on a Friday or Saturday night. Â I can visualize Midway as a wild place at nighttime with beer guzzling and rowdy bar fights and can just imagine getting my ass kicked after a few too many beers. Â Unfortunately the food isn't as interesting as the atmosphere. My grilled chicken sandwich consisted of a tough breast (probably cooked from frozen) topped with cheese, BBQ sauce and jalapenos. Â 2 stars for the food, but 4 stars for the cultural experience of country life in the St. Francois Foothills of Missouri.
Review Source:Swung by Midway for lunch while winery hopping in Ste. Gen... my best friend lives in Cape Girardeau and I'm in St. Louis, so we are highly amused that we can eat at a place called Midway that's directly in between both of us. It's the little things.
Hooooly dead animals everywhere. Just be aware ahead of time if you can't hang. There is also apparently a very popular gun raffle that I chose to opt out of. It's a very, very casual place, so be prepared for the service to echo that as well.
I decided to get the reuben, and it was pretty good! Lots of good stuff on that sandwich, and the fries were great as well. They make decent mixed drinks, and that's really all you can ask for at a place like Midway.
I'm sure we'll meet here again for a casual lunch & superb people watching!
I am highly amused by the first review of this establishment, because with all honesty, it couldn't be further from the truth. Â I have eaten at Midway on many occasions, Â and without a doubt have had an enjoyable experience each and every time.
Given the fact that the majority of the clientele that frequent the place are bikers, hunters and blue collar workers and their families, the rustic wood walls, stairs, and assorted animal kills mounted on the wall give the place great look and make your eating an entertaining experience.
I have had burgers, salads, and popcorn shrimp as my lunch / dinner fare, and haven't been disappointed yet. the service has been great as well, with waitresses that serve with a smile, keep your glasses filled, and follow up to see how things are and if you need anything.
its not a quiet place, but considering it is a bar/ grill the atmosphere is pretty much self explanatory, if your looking for  a quiet place to dine, you will do better someplace else, if your looking for a quick, inexpensive meal, then look no further than the Midway...
