    Peppery perfection on a bun!

A Charlie boy = loose meat, tavern, maid-rite, sloppy joe

This place is quaint and a staple of the community so outsiders might not understand it's significance to us, but I am sure you all have a place where you are from that is similar, if you're lucky!

Coors Lite in a Schooner and two Charlie Boys while watching some football on a Saturday afternoon!  Wow, that will never get old.

I have heard so many people tell me they have Miles Charlie boy recipe........yeah, sure you do!  No one can replicate it.

Over 42 years ago, I visited Sioux City to see friends in college and a Morningside football game.  That night, they took me to Miles Inn and I'm sure I ate at least four Charlie Boys.  Now I finally made it back to see if they tasted the way I remembered and I was not disappointed.

Miles Inn is a great place, a local bar that was filled with patrons on a Thursday night.  Ms T and I managed to find a table and I ordered a couple of CBs for me, one for her and a couple of schooners.  Standard equipment on a Charlie Boy is catsup, mustard, pickle, onion and cheese.  I ordered without the catsup or cheese because of my Maid-Rite upbringing.  Ms T stuck with simply mustard and cheese.

I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane.  The sandwich meat is very black peppery.  The steamed beef is great texture and includes some cooked onion.  The quantity of raw onion on the sandwich was not overdone.  While Ms T thought the meat did not have any flavor, I disagree.  I don't really have a reason to go to Sioux City but if American Airlines blesses us with cheap tickets again, I just might do it.  Miles Inn is a place to go for a unique "Tavern" loosemeat.  Have at least two and a schooner.

I would probably give my right arm for a Charlie Boy and a Schooner right now!

It's a little hole in the wall bar off the beaten path that's a great place to meet up for a drink after work.

    A local icon.
Peppery "taverns" called Charlie Boys are the mainstay. (taverns - the the unfamiliar - is the area nickname for a loose-meat sandwich).
A (20 oz?) schooner of beer in a frosty glass.
They have a full bar and a couple of other food items, but a $10 bill gets you 2 Charlie Boys and a schooner with a buck left over to tip the bartender. A "Hawkeye" bar, fans of other teams won't get much more than a gentle ribbing and your game on Saturday might be relegated to the smaller TV by the little-used pool table.
If you want a true taste of "local flavor" then a Smile with Miles must be on your bucket list.

It doesn't get much better than Miles. From the frosty schooners of beer, to the infamous Charlieboy, good times are always had here.

    For the layman:
Schooner = Large goblet of ice cold beer
Charlieboy = Loose meat sandwich that has no rival

It's a great place to meet up after work, or as a first stop to get your evening started.  If you're expecting something fancy, don't. If you're wanting a good time with good people, I'll meet you there.

You should not miss Miles in the afternoon, have a Charlie Boy and a schooner in this friendly neighborhood spot.
